1. Hi, I had one about 5 years ago, pretty good I thought, especially for the price I paid (£125 S/H). In fact as a 4 string player, I often regret selling it, as it was very well built & IMO a nice looking bass, as I remember the 'B' was OK. Would be a good used buy. Isn't there a bargain Squier 5er now?

4. I think early VM's used a different shape control plate but later ones use standard. If you look on the 'bay some sellers provide a scale drawing, I would just check it against the VM. I think the none standard early ones will be harder to get http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quality-Jazz-bass-guitar-control-plate-blank-in-chrome-black-or-gold-/370563802121?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item564752e409 Heres an ad with a drawing, I think the critical part with the VM is the angle of the part that butts up to the scratchplate, good luck.

6. Anybody know anything about this model, how easy they are to get S/H. what they cost etc? cheers
7.
Yeah - there's a noticeable difference in the sound when Guy played the P bass, more true to the original material rather than the funky / slap tones of DSOT. My favourite era was from '73-80. I love Waters' lyrics and Gilmours playing from that period. I'd say Animals is my favourite album, probably of any artist.
so would I, absolutely love it
8. yes it's a Matt Freeman, same spec as a CV though
9. Heres my 2 Cv's
10. As the tittle says I need a Steinberger headless type bass for using in an 80's type band. I don't know much about these bases except I thought they were cool back then. I think Hohner make them?, what are the options for a fairly good sounding bass upto £350 - £400. Must be cricket bat type and preferably black. Cheers.

15. I bought a P bass wiring kit off John, like everyone else who has bought one, I am very happy with it, he's great with advice, fast turnarround, PERFECT. Thanks John!
16.
^this. KiOgon is a gent and can give you some great advice. The kits are very well made and the price is, as Paul says, very reasonable. I've got one of KiOgon's wiring looms in my P bass, it sounds fantastic.
massive +1
17. Took Garys advice and ordered from a kit from Kiogon (John) thanks Gary ......and John is a really helpfull knowledgeable guy, thanks John.
18. I have assembled a bitsa P for a friend, it's worked out pretty well, but the pickup is a cheap one and doesn't sound too good. Another friend has offered a choice of four used decent pickups that he has in a spares box, I am going to be fitting the four different pickups in the bass for the owner to choose ONE of the pickups for the bitsa, my question is; .....as I may have the pickups in and out more than once, is there an easy, neat and perfectly usable way of joining the two pickup wires to the wires coming from the pots? I was thinking of using a small connector block as I don't want to be soldering & unsoldering lots of times, is there a easier/ better way to connect the wires in the cavity? thanks for any information.
19. I love mine.

21.
I think the Wilkinsons cut through cleanly, with a lovely smooth finish
The £48 one's I take it you mean? so these appear to be very good for the money it seems. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110971482655?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
22.
There are two levels of Wilkinson P and J pickups - the cheaper of the two (£15 for a P and £20 for a J-set) are steel pole pieces with ceramic magnets underneath the pickup. These come as stock on the Vintage 'Jaco' fretless J bass. The more expensive ones (£25 for a P and £48 for a J-set) have alnico pole pieces and these are much nicer-sounding with more output - I put a set in the Vintage and it really did make a difference to the sound. The Vintage stratocaster I had featured the staggered-pole alnico pickups and they sounded really nice, even when compared to the 2009 MIM Strat I had at the time. I believe they are wound to Fender vintage specs. I'd definitely give the alnico models a thumbs-up.
Do the £48 a set one's come in any off the shelf basses and are these about the best you'll get for fifty quid a pair for a Vintage (brand) jazz? EDIT: Squier classic vibe jazz pair are about £40, do hese compare to the premium wilkinsons?
23. Just received a beaultifull Tort Jazz scratchplate from Howard, fit perfectly. Top job, top man, nuf said. Buy/deal with absolute confidance, Nick
