1.
Hi - I'll probably regret this, but following the 'one in one out' rule I'm going to put my Squier Classic Vibe Jazz up for sale. I bought it from Moos3h (original thread here) & he'd upgraded it with GFS JB Pro Jazz Bass pickups, which give it a much fuller sound than the stock pickups (more details on the pickups here). Since it's been in my hands, I've had it restrung with La Bella 760FX flats (.39 - .96) & professionally set up. I've also swapped the scratchplate for a Mighty Mite red tortoiseshell one & changed the standard knobs over to knurled chrome ones. I still have all the original hardware, so I'll include that in the sale. Condition is good - the only thing to report is a crack to the headstock varnish - this was before I had it (see the original thread for a good pic of it). Overall, I think it looks & sounds much better that an off-the-shelf one - a couple of people who've played it were surprised it was a Squier! It came to me in a brand new hard case, so I'll be happy to sell it on with the case for £250 posted within the UK. Cheers, B.
Sounds like a good un. Do you think the new pups make that big a difference? What i mean is have you had a good play of an off the shelf model? (I was just wondering if it would be worth getting mine done later on in the year)
2.
I bought the issue with Anthony Jackson on the cover last week & it really is terribly dull. That Warwick TM Stevens bass with the sh*t-awful graphic has got to be the tackiest thing I've ever seen. And the price!!! I do like the look of that EBS combo though...............
I think there has been an improvement over the last 18 months (got some back issues at a car boot) Really getting a bit better over time. The only thing i really object to is interviews with kids you've never heard of who have wormed their way into a Berkley scholarship. I mean, who cares! Also would be nice to see reviews on some cheap basses for once. We cant all afford Warwicks, or Mesa Engineering Big block Titan V12' amps.
3. Hmm, i have to say i never heard of them. I suppose their pretty good? Unless i come into money i cant see me ever getting any boutique amps sadly.
4. Really nice old pics there. I wish i had some of me at that age. Very few and far between. Its brilliant you still have the old bass. Whats going to be difficult is wondering who to pass it on to when you pop your clogs. If it were mine I'd hate to think of it going to some family member who didnt care about it and flogged it as soon as they could.
My Dad gave me mine for my 13th Birthday. Any idea what they're worth now ?
Theres a 1959 one going for £650 and a 60s 'Bill wyman' one going for £999 Frammus from 1959 ebay link Frammus 60s Bill Wyman

Show us your rig!

Heres my lot. left to right; Peavey Millenium Mk I, Hohner B bass, Squire Jazz CV, Woodfield P bass (my first bass) The combo amps are, Top Peavey combo Mk III, and bellow a Behringer B X4210A. Not bad for 5 months collecting eh? I did have a Johnson jazz bass with emg pups but i sold that Saturday, . I did have a lot more small combo's. I got them off ebay, 12 for a quid each! (yes 12 combos practice amps for 12 quid) I also have a home built fretless monstrosity. The neck is i think from a Stagg, with nylon Rotosounds ang mightymate pups, and the body is home made and by the looks of it sawn with a bread knife! Cost me £24 i just wanted to see what a fretless was like. Oh well now i have mentioned it id better edit this and show it here in all its glory
7. cant download these ?
8. I recorded it to view again tonight. Wilkos version of the chicken neck walk was always a classic. I was a little too young to really notice them till milk & alcohol after Wilko had left. Then punk came along... It'll be repeated im sure maybe soon so keep a watch out if you want to see it. Otherwise its on bbci player for a week It is 1.2Gb though for those with download limits. 11. They look very good quality. May have to invest in one. Looks like i could fit a nice chunk of foam padding under the shoulder and be un noticed. nice and wide.
12. Well spotted ,that man!
13. I cant believe i have owned a bass for 5 months and forgot about the manic bass line of Love song! and i mean the Damned song, not the much later P.I.L. thing. The Damned were the first 'proper' band i ever saw. It was 9th April of 1979 and queuing up at a local Chester club named Smartyz hoping i could pass for 18, for the towns biggest gig since the pistols played Quaintways two and a half years earlier. The difference was, this one was packed to the gills with punks, who must have shocked the town by appearing en masse that Monday night. The band eventually came on and blew me away. The club was so small that only half the PA was up and Rat was playing drums set up in the DJ booth (DJ moved to the back) For better or for worse My life was changed that night. I was already a kid punk rocker. I remember the Stranglers Peaches being on the radio in 1977 and loving the baseline even before i knew who JJ burnell was. I had borrowed my mates In the City and Rattus Norvegicus albums, then bought Never mind the B0llocks. But it was all seen from afar till that night. The Captain (Nurses uniform) was still playing bass when i saw them, i think it was him who played bass on Love Song as well. Ahh good times, good times. I must have traveled all over and seen 200 bands over the next 3 years. Not bad for a non Londoner, who doesn't have the luxory of being able to go out and see a band any night he wishes. Seen so many i forget most of them. Sometimes ill hear a band or see the name written and it'll come back to me, "Didn't i see them supporting such and such in 1980, at The Band on the wall, Eric's, Electric Ballroom, The Futurama festival". Or wherever it was. I was lucky enough to see the unique Gang of four, gigging their album Entertainment! at Eric's Liverpool. Andy Gill still had a bloodshot eye from a little disagreement with some NF skinheads in Leeds a few days earlier. It often got very heavy and violent being a punk in those days. Not like today when someone with spikey pink hair walking down the street doesn't raise an eyelid off a pensioner. My mum wouldnt even put one of my punk tee-shirts on the line, as it had a swear word on it! But the Damned and the Stranglers remained firm favorites. I also saw in later years The Gang of four Entertainment album reach iconic status. With bass luminaries such as Flea stating it as a huge influence. Oh yes, i have just got the ol bass out and riffed out the bar and a half of the Damned's best bass line. ie: Love Song. Great stuff, how could i of forgot it? (How could i of missed this thread)
14. Good grief i didnt realize it was originally white till i read the thread on TB. I thought it was dirty enough before i realized that!
15. Has anyone got An Mp3 of Level 42 "something about you" they can email me? I know its a damn cheek asking here. But i thought starting a new thread asking for an mp3 would be even cheekier. I have been trying to suss out the rhythm for this and put them together with bass tabs and the two don't add up to my memory of the song:email: reetax at yahoo dot co dot uk ps: anyone has the bass clef as well ?
16.
Oh well, thanks for looking anyway guys... I don't suppose playing style would help? I have a 'video' clip that I can upload to youtube.
May well be very helpfull actually. upload away.

18. Tis a thing of beauty Sir. I'll check my stack of unchecked lottery tickets for the last 3 months and let you know. Hey you never know, somebodies gotta win
19. Welcome onboard the Squire Jazz appreciation society.
20. (After 5 months of trying) I can now thumb slap the E string no problemo (Suddenly!) But there is no way that I can hit the A string on its own without the other strings ringing out as i brush them. Any of you thum slap kings out there got any tips for a fellow?
21. I remember seeing that vid a lot, when i was looking after our kids house one month. I saw it on MTV one day when i was going through a bizzaro (for me) period of watching a few hours every day.[I rarely watch an hour of tv a day at the best of times] This was on every couple of hours regularly. One day i must have been actually taking notice and realized it really was a class song. Produced to death of course and i don't believe any of the instruments are real, all digitized synth. But thats just as valid a sound as anything else i spose. Certainly goes well with this video. ps: I think the red hair is the best.
22.
... got it in one!
Famous round here is he?

24. Been trying the tug bar out on my Classic Vibe. Im not a finger style player. All my faves are pickmen so thats the route i went. On the few ocassions i do try finger stle it feelsd all wrong and just sounds bad, not to mention i get all my fingers mixed up trying to play two fingered and the rhythm goes all to knackery. So i end up hooking it like JJ, but it often just gives me the thunk sound. So i tried the tug bar and played with my thumb and straight away get a much better sound and the rhythm is much easier. Anyone use the tug bar (i mean on the bottom, not swapped to the top)
