I have just seen an old episode of that great seveties tv series Callan with the excellant Edward Woodward. Anyway who is old enough to recal that cool spooky bass line theme tune i had totally forgotten about?. Im gonna try and play it now, but save me tearing too many hairs out does anyone know how the notes go? Twas only four measures or so i think.
Still not a real Jag, it's about 30 knobs and switches light!
Indeed. Its not like the CV range where the original Fender that its modelled after only have the standard number of pots. The jag has a serious number of switch options. Id rather have them charge £50 more and give us the active/passive choice.

I never knew him, but anyone with so many people genuinely saddened by their passing, you know has to be a decent human being.
A good point, although after 8 or 9 pages we haven't really come up with any definitive answers..... every "awful" bassist named so far has plenty of people to defend their playing. I reckon it's actually turned out to be quite a positive thread proving that everyone has different tastes.
it depends how you see the question "awfull bass player" Do you mean a bad player ie, cant play. Or do you mean they might be technically ok but i for some reason cant stand to hear them play.?
Anyway - this is very off-topic and I'm actually hard-pushed to think of a "truly awful" bassist. To me that suggests inept rather than over-busy, or lacking taste, or overly simplistic, or overrated because they possess breasts, or any of the other criticisms that have been levelled at the contenders. The closest thing to truly awful would be poor old Sid, but he doesn't qualify because he was only ever a gimmick, not a bassist. J.
Indeed Sid never really got a chance to shine. He was brought in because Johnny Rotten was paranoid that he was on his own in the band and non of them liked him. Thats why he always had his mates the three Johns with him (John Grey, John Wardle aka: Jah Wobble, and John Beverly aka: Sid Vicious) with him at sessions, as well as gigs and relaxing. This made the other Pistols keep their distance even more coz there were scared of Wobble. Even before the Pistols,Sid had tried to learn the bass playing along to the Ramones LP. After he joined the band he did try to learn for a while, then Skag and 'orrible nancy got their claws into him. Although after the Pistols broke up, Maclaran did get him in the studio to record some old rock n roller standards, but the studio techs could not induce him to do anything but practice his bass for 3 days, whilst the studio was running up a huge bill for Virgin. Whether this was a genuine attempt at learning the bass or a chance to get back at McLaran we'll never know. (this recording was later succsesfull as the Singles C'mon everybody, and Something Else, with the naughty B sides of Friggin in the riggin, etc. Though Sid only Sang vocals not played bass) The gigs where Sid played live he was always turned right down in the PA and thought he was being heard as he could hear himself though the monitors. The Pistols live were a wall of sound, so Sids bass was not really missed. Steve and Paul had nicked huge top of the range Marshall Amps and cabs as well as guitars.(also Bowies £500 state of the art mikes from the Rainbow Theatre) So even without a PA they would be loud in a small club. Twice whilst warming up on the SPOTS tour Paul set off the noise monitors and switched the power off to the building, and that was with un miked up drums. The one thing everyone who saw them agrees on was that they were seriously ear bleedingly loud.
Sid was so awful that Steve re-recorded all the crap Sid had put down. Sid was just a poster boy, planted by Malcolm McLaren to make them look the part.
If you get the Classic Album series DVD of Never mind the b0LL0cks, it goes through who played what on the entire album. If i recall corretly there may be a tiny bit of Sids bass hidden in the 'Bodies' mix. The rest is Steve Jones with Matlock only playing bass on Anarchy and i think one other track. If you get the 'SpÜnk' bootleg there are a few more tracks on there where Matlock plays bass on, from the Denmark Street sessions (where that naughty 'tea leaf' Steve Jones nicked many guitars from)
Took my SVT5 in for a service - its now a different beasty to when it came out. Been fully cleaned out, connections tested, new preamp valve put in (the old one had gone a bit microphonic) and it just sounds lovely now. Clean as a whistle. If you are thinkin : "Hmmm, my amp doesnt sound as good as it did a while ago...." perhaps its time to get a reputable chap in the know to look at it.
Quite right. Its the finding of a reputable chap thats local is the problem. Do we have a list for different areas on here ?

Dont spose any good samaritan who originally nabbed these when they were up, could re up them to u tube or somewhere and give us a shout ?

Does anyone have any idea about this. Have Joy Division ever published any song books of their music? for instance what is this offering here does anyone know? Click for amazon link to book Doesnt seem to state what it is and no reviews either? Anything would be good even bass tabs if thats all there is, although obviously the proper music is much prefferable.

pretty fine bass action there. Well done, thought the Paramore track was well executed.

The tweed guitar cabs/speakers are not bad and the guitar amps are visually better too. The bass stuff isnt that bad, frankly i dont care what it looks like if it sounds good. I am just at a loss to understand why they thought they had to jazz up the looks of the Bass range? Does it really need to be looking that different from the guitar amp range? I mean why? Surely it would have saved a few bob to make them all from the same material.

I have both of the above little 15W guitar practice combos . The Japanese one is from the 1980s i think. The look pretty much the same except the Japanese model only has one Gain knob against the Korean models two Gain knobs. The Japanese one sounds louder. Thats about the only difference i can tell. Does anyone know of any other differences between them ?

I was wondering about the great PIL bass line in This is Not a Love Song.(just the main riff) i have found two different tabs, neither of which sounds right when I play it. tab 1 tab 2 the second one sounds nearest, but still not right. I get nearer when i try this: D. F / D. E. / E. A (All on the A string, ending with the end A note on the E string.) or F/F/F/F E/E A [on the A string.] thats still wrong though, any help please, ps: i know tabs suck and i'd take sheet music for this instead if i could find any.? pps: dont spose anyone has one of those handy bass only versions on their computer? for those poor souls that've never heard it: this is not a love song - PIL (youtube)

yeah id like a Sadowsky too, or a nice Warwick. I even have one hundred of your english pounds to pay for either one. sigh... Tell you what though, if i win the lottery i'll buy five to give away on here as competition prizes. Lets make a lottery syndicate pact. If any rergular forum member comes up rich, then he/she buys a stack of bass kit to give away via the forum.

My Behringer combo has been intermittantly cutting out for several seconds then coming back on again. At first i thought it was the lead, but it happened with a new lead too, then i noticed the VU meter still bouncing up and down as i strummed noiselessly, so it cant be lead problems. Any thoughts on why its happening? ps. Its about 18 months old and has had very light use. Still had the labels on and not a mark on it when i got it for a song on ebay.
