"WE WILL SHIP THE LEAST EXPENSIVE WAY POSSIBLE." For £51,000 I'd want it chuffin delivered in person! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-1961-Fender-...=item27b10b406f I keep looking at it and thinking/hoping it is a wrong un but for peace of mind I dare say a couple hundred for a plane ticket would be justified.
That must be the one Leo Fender rolled up his sleeves and made personally for Bill Wyman who then made those 12 Stones albums on.

Dam! I got rid of Sky at xmas. As my old mum said when they rang to try and get her to get hers switched back on. "You see plenty of cheap offers for new subscribers. But those that have stayed with you for years get nothing but price increases." Even the Sky dude had to admit she had a pont!

Does anyone have the full version of that Tudor smash hit Greensleeves ? (number one with a bullet for 156 medieval years) Either bass clef or alpha tab will do. Or bass tab at a push. trying to wean myself off the old tab though. It don't help to use it whilst learning bass clef. But at a pinch it will do. Anyway, Greensleeves anyone? I see plenty of guitar stuff and the odd single verse for bass, but id like the full version.

People just find other things to do, or quite often other Forums. When i first got onto the web i was a regular over at Shrereactor.com (remember that one edonkey or emule p2p users?) and posted thousands of messages over two years. I also used to be a big regular over at mig welding diy co,uk as I have several welding rigs, but nowerdays only pop in every week or two, although often read posts there without posting. With that forum however you can tell the last time a person logged in. Can you do that here ?
In most cases with Jap Fenders it's absolutely true.
I thought that too. The Japanese are renowned craftsmen. -
Ever since i first picked up my bass before Xmas i have been trying to thumb slap, all to no avail. I don't' mean it sounded bad. I didn't sound anything except of side of thumb against strings/ frets. I have two cheap bases and the Peavey millenium, but that needs new strings, they are dead as a doornail, so i never tried with that. But my other two i tried for hours and all i ever heard was an embarrassing twink thonk thunk fssszzk. So i try last night with my brand new shiney Squier CV jazz unplugged into any amp and got what were vaguely OK ish sounds, or i thought might have been if they were amplified, and made a note to try today avec amp, though with not much hope. I had been let down before by believing rash promises made on book advert blurbs etc. Well tonight i nearly fell off the chair with shock when a half decent thumb slap sound came from the speaker. To say i was Happy and surprised is putting it mildly. A weaker man may have sobbed into his hankie, or offered up a prayer of thanks to Hendrix or somesuch. But i just turned the amp up and thumb slapped away for over an hour like a grinning though very noisy idiot, until informed it was "gone 7PM and next doors kids will be in bed" "But they wont hear this, there are three walls between me and them!" "Yes well you've never had it this loud before" was the answer. In my excitement i had notched it quite a bit further than usual. I am sure no one here would blame me. What a difference a quality piece of kit makes.
As a former small music shop owner I couldn't compete with the net so I didn't try or price match. The margins are very small as it is. It didn't make a lot of difference because people still bought from me most of the time. It's annoying when some guy comes in and tries out a guitar he fancies and then goes and gets it off the net. The problem with that is you are buying from a box shifter and it usually won't be setup. That's when they come in with their new guitar for a setup and the whole thing ends up costing a lot more than if they had bought it off me in the first place. I quite enjoyed taking the wind out of their sails when they come in and say "I can get that £35 cheaper at GAK, you are expensive" My reply was always wow! bargain! I'd buy that. Trouble is they want net prices and personal service, ain't gonna happen.
I agree, as i said i didn't expect them to compete or match the £250 interweb prices. Box movers dont have to pay rent and rates on city centre premises, so can obviously sell cheaper. I did however expect them to meet the price of Back Alley Music their main rival who are a 10 minute walk away and a smaller business.
Very cool. You're first brand new bass is a special moment When you remove the plastic on the pickguard, take the screws out and peel the plastic from around them. Makes it all neat. Can't believe how many basses I've seen with little trails of plastic around the pickguard screws. I just find it irritating. Can't help it, just do. My wife would say it's because I'm a Virgo....
Yes thats what i did. Note the screwdriver above the bass in the bottom picture

All i can say is You are a lucky guy and please lets see some pictures mate. ^_^ You may be right about ebay. I wouldnt bother myself but they do reach an awfull lot of people including rich americans and japanese with deep pockets. Just consider how much is the least you let them go for and not feel too bad and set that as the reserve price.

Bought from Dawsons of Chester for £286. Soon as i got it home i plugged it in. Didnt even take the plastic off the pickguard. It sounded better than it had in the store. Not a single electrical buzz like my other two basses. Quiet as and album of quiet sounds played really quiet. Yes the strings were a little zingy and new, but still it sounded awesome. No fret buzz or anything, as i was afraid there might be, like on my P bass (as this would mean it really was my fault and poor playing style, and not a badly set up bass. Luckily my style must be ok. The P bass is going in for new strings and to be propely set up next week) On the taking off of the pup plastic covers, there was no noise if i touched the poles with my fingers, as one unlucky buyer had found on his CVJ. In fact the sound was just right, sounded great to me. Some have advocated putting Seymour Duncans on and new pots, others have said. "No need" it sounds great straight out of the box. Well i dont have enough experience to know about SD pups all i know is my new bass sounds just fine as it is. Nothing short of coming in to a wad of cash would entice me to try a change, and then only on another bought CVJ, as mine sounds fine just as is. I doubt ill want to change it too much. It is easily my best sounding bass by a long way. The only annoying part was they wouldnt budge on price of £286. I suppose if they want to sell at that price its fair enough, its a free country. What did annoy me was that their website states "seen it cheaper? Let us know" Well i did let them know and it was pretty pointless. I didnt really expect them to match online prices of £250. But as their main competitor in Chester was selling it for £270, just a ten minute walk away, I did expect them to match that price. So the asisstant goes away for a minute them comes back and says "head office wont budge" Couldnt even get a set of spare strings or a strap out of him! Im not blaming the guy, but whats the point of implying you will price match then not doing it? As he went away for a box i pondered a short while, then nearly walked out the shop up the road to the other cheaper shop. Only the fact that i'd just put the car in multi story and i'd have to get it out, and not wanting to look like a petulant tit for the sake of £16 stopped me doing so. I wouldnt have been too bothered, but i was in the store a month or two back and heard a guy get £20 knocked off an expensive acoustic guitar! Maybe he was a regular spender or something? It only slightly spoiled a good day, but still, i dunno. What do you think? My very first brand new bass Sans plastic pickgurad cover

I probably should re listen to Mr King actually. Not heard him in many years (decades?) All i need now is a few hundred Megs of MP3's then?
They had bass players at points though didn't they? I thought Sean Yseult (of White Zombie) played with them back in 06/07.
Really ? Dunno I was only into them, in 1979 and the 1980s really. A quote from Wikipedia says "Their music is mostly in rockabilly form, played at varying tempos, with a very minimal drumkit. An integral part of the early Cramps sound is dual guitars, without a bassist. "Saw them several times with the original line up of Poison Ivy on rhythm and Brian Gregory on lead. Deffo no bass then. But maybe they hankered after a new sound in latter decades ?
Cool... Russell is a lovely fella, met him on numerous occasions. Hope it comes off. But they need to communicate more to their fanbase, also the way they shafted the majority of their fans on the 'official forum' was nothing short of scandalous!!!
Why what happened there then ? -
Flea has much better tone, IMO. I also like his style. Mark King is very talented....not my cup of tea though.
That seems to be the consensus of opinion. "MK is very talented but i dont listen to him." As for me, I'd preffer JJ burnell every time. Flea is cool and i think the Chili Peppers are a fine band (last album boring though, sort of like the Clash with Sandinista!) I listen to flea and just think 'i'll never be able to do that' its deperessing, as i started bass so late i see him saying he started at 16 or whatever I try it and all i hear from the amp is the clatter of my thumb clacking the string against the fretboard. How on earth does he do it?! At least with The stranglers i can learn a few riffs and tunes.
Throwing a slight spanner into the works.... I think that rather than looking for a fingering chart,it would be much more beneficial to you if you learn some chord theory. It will do you much more good if you know that, for example, a C major chord contains the notes C,E,G (or I,III,V if you want to look at it numerically),than just what the 'shape' is. If you know the notes you can arpeggiate them all over the fingerboard rather than being stuck in only one position.
yes i think your quite correct there. I think it would be more benficial to learn what notes are in the chord rather than finger posistions. ie: C major is C,E,G (I,III,V) etc. So now i need to find somwhere has some bas chords i can print out and learn as arpeggios. Anyone know of a good place to get some that will print out well?
The best version of Fever ever recorded IMHO. Atmosphere by the bucketload...
that may well be true. However the Cramps were famous for not having a bass player. Lead and rythym guitar only. Saw them for the first time at Erics liverpool in 1979, absolutely blew me 'ead off, even without a bass.
