3.
I love all the Indie, Madchester and Britpop era stuff (Im that age).I have been listening to some classics from the Seahorses,Stone Roses, and the odd track from all those great bands that had just one hit that still get played in the clubs now. I would of been happy to of been in any of those sort of bands and written some classic basslines but what about you lot?
Ooh maybe Thin Lizzy, as a drummer, so i could still see Phill Lynot on the bass and get to rock out with the band evey gig. Also Joy Division and the Sex Pistols. Oh and be a male drummer in the all girl band The Go Go's Belinda carlisle and Jane Wiedlin are the two sexiest girls on gods green earth. 5.
Last played in 1969. Started playing again 2 years ago - just practising on my own. Joined a band 2 weeks ago, and have a gig this Saturday. 42 songs to learn, but looking forward to it.
Good for you mate. I am in a not too disimilar condition, so I am really hoping all goes smooth for you.

  7. Saw the Igster live do this a few times in the 1980s. Cant recal who was on bass though. (I do know was it certainly weren't Flea though ) ps: the lad is on fire. Just depresses me i didnt take it up and stick at it, at his age.
  8. cant stand his singing personally. It just sounds so false to my ears. Now Steve Marriot, now there was a great singer.
  9.
He's talking about bass in the context of keyboards. Bottom G is 51Hz on a bass guitar, but keyboards will go down to 27Hz and that's before you add any sub harmonic synthesis. As far as I'm aware they don't have a bass player.
exactly what i was thinking.... ...........................................not the 27Hz thing.(which i dint know) The 'they dont have a bass player', bit.
  10.
Sounds to me like they are trying to deter people from asking for extras that are time consuming to make and distract them from building basses. Also, they have staff to pay a living wage in an expensive city, and probably expensive rent to pay in a prime Brooklyn location. This is the real world, not some far east sweat-shop.
I spose Fender also have to pay their own staff a similar wage, but even their American prices look cheap compared to this. But if there are people stupid enough to pay it, then im glad someone is relieving them of their money. Just wish it was me.
  11. your band dont sound like 'mates' to me. Maybe they think the bass dont matter? Seem like a bunch of selfish c**ts to me. f*** em.
  12. I noticed the other day that the E bridge saddle on one of my bases is apart from the other three by 1mm or so. The rest touch each other. This got me to thinking. I have never seen this mentioned in any re stringing a bass articles i have read. Should these touch each other or not? They do seem to be important: ie. the strings pass right over them. Surely this is something that needs explaining, but not mentioned. Should the posistion be checked beforehand and re instituted or not. The odds are if you are doing a full string off refit or job that they must move around a little? I know some have little guide grooves that the height adjusting pin go into like a little shallow track, but just as many dont...? I know to many the answer might be obvious. But if you are one of those trying to learn, something like this can drive you mad till its explained.

Thanks Paul!
Yes Hades was a later Romanization of Tartarus. I suppose if they havent also had astral bodies named after them we forget them. So along with mars, jupiter, saturn, pluto, mercury, neptune, uranus, castor & pollux, sol invictus, luna (Roman moon godess) We also now have Vulcan the roman god of fire who got a planet named after him, even if only in fiction.
  14.
Not sure where I heard this, but I recall hearing a tip to use a soldering iron to heatup each fret & it should come out cleaner - or is this BS anyone?
I think you have to soak the frets first, the soldering iron then steams some looseness or somesuch. i have seen a 50/50 mixture of water and rubbing alcohol being used. the water helps the fretts pull out cleaner and the alcohol stops the wood swelling, as it evapourates quickly. it all depends on how the frets were put in situ in the first place. ie: hammering, glueing or pressing them in. Be carefull with the solder iron though, too hot and you may splinter the wood, especially rosewood. A great guitar repair book to read is Guitar player repair guide. it has a large section on fretting, amonst many other things and comes highly reomended. Some Fenders were fretted sideways, and he shows how to de - fret this way too. Though it needs a well clamped bass, a cool nerve, a steady eye, & hand and done with extreme care. Or if the frets are not being re used you can drill a small hole with a dremmel or similar, just enough to get a grip with whatever tool you are knocking it out with.

    Hello

    greetings my freind.
  18. I have a fretless home made horror that i bought off ebay,(£27) on a whim just to see what a fretless bass was like. The thing i bought was so bad that im still non the wiser as to what its like to play a smoothneck. The neck is possibly off a Stagg (guess) the body is hacked together like a 12 year olds first bench job. Anywho thats all irrelivant. I want to know whats up with the MightyMite pups. The neck pup appears to work fine, as does the tone control, but no bridge pup. I put an ohm meter across the pup/pot connections and got these results: Neck: turned full off. 0.0 ohms Neck: turned full on. 5.7 ohms Bridge: turned full off. 6 ohms Bridge: turned full on. 15 ohms I know i should have tried the pup wires away from the pots as well, but it started raining and my outdoor workshop had to be hurredly moved. I cant work inside the garage atm as its full of boot sale junk. Can any kind and knowledgable person tell anything at all from these half results? (pics below)

It's a sort of bonding gesture http://www.finnbass.com/showthread.php?t=6608
lookin very nice. But whats Finbass ?
  21.
I had a B Bass 6. Didn't like the pre so converted it to passive - otherwise a very nice bass!
how does one convert it to a passive? (in case my repairs dont work, ill try something simpler, as long as the pups will still work) yes i think the switch has 6 legs on it, not sure why.I cant find anyone who has an original old B bass like this one to tell me. They seem very scarce these days?
  22.
I generally like it. I really only get it for Janek's improvising concepts article which in my opinion is worth the cost of the magazine.
the last (bootsy collins) issue states that this months will be out on 25 september. Its supposed to be reviewing The Ampeg herritage series Amps and spmething called a Kramer D1 bass among other things.
  23. thanks for the replies. I have taken a pic of the broken switch which i have undone from the top. The botton on the top has broken off. The writing on it was not too clear till i made a high contrast negative image. Where could I get another of these switches from ?
  24. I aquired (£26 ebay) this old Hohner B bass with a Steinberger drop D bridge, yonks ago. (first pic below) The electrics on it are kaput, two knobs are missing and a switch is broken off. Is this switch an on off for active/passive or just on/off for the bass? The rear knob is a double, like the one in the below pic, would that be for individual tone on each pup ? Yes as you can see i have no knowlege of these matters. I belive the original knobs and switch looked like those in the second pic below from a more recent 5 string Hohner. Were is the best place to aquire some replacement parts ? Your advice is much appreciated.
  25. Dont know about this amp, but i used to build computers, so i know that the air circulation is worked out very carefully in these type of small boxed elctrical goods, which can get very hot. Cubic feet of air per minute is measured at different temperatures, and some fans are built to speed up if the temp rises. The route the air takes, both being sucked in (which some forget about) and being blown out is not an afterthought. There may even be more than a single fan. This will really complicate the cooling process and the route that the differeing temperature air takes as it moves inside the box. I would be extremely wary indeed about closing up any vents. There are some computer fans out there that move more air, and some that are very quiet. Not sure if you can have your cake and eat it though. If you want to go the quiet route then try this one. (i have no affiliation) accoustifans You need to find what rate of air per minute the current fan exhausts, then be sure the fan you get is equal to it. Not to mention making sure power consumption is within acceptable limits. Remember even pointing an ill thought out cooling fan at an amp can do the opposite of what its intended for and cause it to overheat, if its blowing the vented air back inside the box ?! The only surefire way of cooling an amp down is to lower the ambient temperature. PS: remember the noisy 'fan' could actually be noisy bearings.
