sometimes there is a slight gap between your pickups end and the bass body, where a pick can slide in just nice. I have even used that as a thumb rest too.

Right theres half a dozen to be going on with. I think my nickname is daz4bass (I know, but Daz and dazg was taken!) :0
Fancy a challenge so I thought I'd give this a go, while I could sit down and work it out given enough time I think I am going to have enough trouble with the actual playing it bit so a little help on the notes would be much appreciated. Can just about scrape by with "proper" music, can just about get there with tab and a good listen too so does anyone have anything accurateish? Cheers Gareth
The 'power tab' is here i think it also works in Tux which is free, it looks reasonably acurate although i didnt look to closely. There is an official songbook out somewhere that has Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards stuff in music notation and tab, apparently it goes into some detail. edit: Here is the songbook link:

Ebay have long ago moved to give the seller less and less protection and the buyer so much protection that it is simple to abuse. The ebay forums themselves are brim full of very unhappy sellers who have been ripped off. I used to sell Sherlock Holmes stuff on ebay and had many people message me saying it had not turned up. I got a postal reciept with every thing i sent so that i could claim if i needed to. Usually after informing them of this i never heard from them again. In the end i got sick of people trying it on for a few quid, i mean are some people really so mean? Yes they are.

Own up, did you think your bass/guitar was plastic?
My perspex P is about 14lbs. I can't play it for more than 10 minutes standing up! J.
ah, but Perspex is not plastic, in fact its more akin to glass. One of its trade marked names is PlexiGlass Unfortunatley though it is easily scratched and likely to become brittle and shatter under stress (It is also sometimes called simply acrylic) -

Your not on your own Wayne. When i was a kid i used to think all electric guitars were plastic. Right up until i was maybe 14 or 15. I cant recall seeing any varnished/oiled ones back then? I never even handled one till i picked up my mates Woolies special with cheesegrater action when i was 14 or so. But I took no notice of any guitars at all as I came from a non musical family and never had any in the house when i were a whipper snapper. I do remember seeing plenty of those awfull Beatle type placcy acoustic things in Woolworths and Kays Catalogues etc. NB: Plastic has been around longer than most people realize, with an early plastic making its debut at the Victorian Great International Exhibition at London in 1860 something. -
What train station was it lost at ? I see you are from our fair capital city. Not lost at a London station i hope?. Always better the smaller the town or city. Less cash converters and second hand shops to choose from.
+1: Label everything. In my experience the vast majority of people are honest and if they can see a name and number will make the phone call. If there's no label what can they do? Just leave it or hand it in to someone.
Very good idea. Im putting a card inside my bass case right now. (with "Reward offered for safe return of this bass" on it. A little cash never does any harm for a lost item) Not that the bass in my case is worth anything, but im hoping one day it might contain some nice piece

If there are any keys left, id love a couple of ebony ones to do the same thing. (thum rests) Who was it that has/had them, can i pm them? Failing that does anyone else have any spare? cheers. Daz

Id say both, too. I play with a pick, but find that certain things are just better with fingers. Just this evening i spent an hour strumming the riff to Armagideon Time, over and over. I tried a pick but it didnt sound right, so fingers it was. Yes I was Paul Simenon for that hour!

Does anyone have some notation for the above song. I need notation not tabs. Besides I have looked at the tabs as the song plays and it soon becomes obvious that the tabs only show the basics and none of the flourishes and stuff included in the song. By the way I did see a songbook for Thin Lizzy but it was guitar only! How thick is that for a band such as Lizzy ?
There are a few, mainly from the US London power do one, there are a few german kits Tube amp doctor do one for example. But look at the cost of them! the kit will cost as much as a Matamp/ Orange fully built, Its not worth the bother, the circuits used for bass valve amps i.e. multiple valve push pull are a nightmare to get running properly from new and thats with a proper scope etc etc. A matamp bass amp for example will spend a good time on the bench being tuned up and that means filddling about with the circuits. The main problem as I have said before with bass amps is the output transformer, ones good enough for bass i.e. go low enough for bass and with enough output are pretty darn expensive as they just arent made in quantity anymore. A 200watt output transformer which has good low end i.e. UL or very nearly UL is going to cost £200-300 on its own as its a serious bit of iron.
So would you say it may well be worth picking up a broken bass amp on ebay and using parts off that ? Im assuming a non valve amp could be gutted for its transformer here? (as you see i know nothing about electronics)

My main bass had some flats put on it a few months back. Ever since i have felt that the E and A strings were a tiny bit dull. I noticed that the string was not tightly wound from top of the peg to the bottom, but assumed that this could not make that much difference. Eventually i realized it was riddiculous to not at least try and put it right and see if it made a difference. Well of course it did. I made sure the string was wound tighly all the way down to the bottom. The angle of the bend from the nut was now more accute and did make a difference to the tonality of the strings.* So i read up on this and it appears that many people can not get this benefit from their strings as they simply cut them too short to be able to get a proper top to bottom wind on them, therefore making it much harder to intonate the guitar correctly. Im sure many people here knew this anyway, as did I to be honest. But i simply didnt realize how big a difference it could actually make. So guys and galls, dont cut those strings too short or you wont be able to get a decent angle between nut and machine head.! *The reason that i never tried this sooner was that i had the same trouble with my old Peavey and this was one of the first things i was advised to try and it made no difference. I'm afraid the old Peav still sounds dull on the E string. If only that was as easy a fix.

i have had a scoot round looking for diy bass amps. These seem to be scarcer than hens dentures.
He likes Deep Purple, Hendrix, Led Zep, Rod Stewart, Motown, that sort of thing. Does anyone have any experience helping family members learn bass? I expect some frustration from both sides along the way!
Surely Smoke on the water, leaps out at you here ?

i think hes lost posession of the ones in circulation, he seems to be ignoring the two "on tour " threads that have died.
The process for a return is that he returns the guitar to you and then you give the refund. When you suggest that you may never hear from him again! If he sends it back then guess it isn't a very good scam.
Thats the way its done and don't let anything persuade you otherwise. I don't know if it was via ebay/paypal but if it was and he complains to paypal and they have your credit card number or bank account, they may well just take the money from it if they arbitrarily decide against you. So watch out.

I have something similar on one of my bass, cant really tell though as the video of it happening has disapeared?
From just listening to it (I've never learned it before),it's just a big Eb minor pentatonic line(Eb,Gb,Ab,Bb,Db),so unless you are drop tuned you have to play it in a closed position with no open strings.
Yes thats the way I learned it and play it. Though on hearing it played on open strings ( a semitone different) i couldnt decide if it sounded better, so i just wondered how it was played originally. I dont care how old hat it is, or how much the riff is looked down upon in guitar shops. I always have a soft spot for it, as it was the first punk record i heard and the first one where i recognized and fell in love with the bass sound.
