1. the ideal thing is obviously to get to try both a CV or two and this, then make your mind up. Is this possible?
2. Damn i wish id seen this in time. I have the songbook somewhere. Go to this page, the guy has tons of Smiths somgbook stuff, even a vid of him doing the bassline. scroll about halfway for the songbook, go past all the johhny marr stuff and its below that. Smiths songbook stuff here and for Tab heads: tab for charming man
3. Jumbo frets are raised a little higher making it easier to sound notes (supposedly)
4. 1) The Jazz scale. (and improvising on it) 2) Getting clear ringing notes from the first five frets. 3) some Joy division riffs* * I have put Rotosound SM77 flats on my old Peavey Milestone Mk I, and seem (to my surprize) to be getting a good sonic approximation of Hooky's Joy Division bass lines.
5.
I really don't rate him in the slightest. I've played opposite Jools' band a few times, and I think that Gilson has no balls or drive in him. He doesn't swing that much either.
I have no opinion, never seeing him live. I do know that when he was sacked by Tilbrook and Difford, they were genuinely terrified he would savagely beat them up. They actually lived in fear for some time, even though he had made no threats. ps: B.O.T.D. (Beware Of The Drummer. and do not forsake him)
6. i got the same reply.
hello, i do not have any additional pictures of this item when my pa's friend went through and tested all the gear he just made sure everything was working and we put them back in their boxes/cases where they are now. i can ask him if he knows any answers to your questions. i would prefer to do all of the transactions through ebay for my own safety. cheers
what a surprize.
7. Anyone have any sheet music for Slade? Apparently there were many of Slade's hits brought on on sheetmusic (see link for examples)
8. A little xmas pressie for the forum. Here is a .pdf file of the Michael Manring version of Purple Haze. Transcribed by Cliff Engel. With performance notes. ps: calm down you Tab haters, this is notation Here also is the mp3 of it, I put on u2oob, be quick before the copyright nazis take it down!
9.
I don't think that's right - that would consign pretty much every bassline to the 'cheesy' bin. The major third's always good, isn't it? I think Carol says something along the lines of think about chord tones rather than scales. I like Carol Kaye but she does ramble alot and often says do something then plays something else (on her tapes at least!). She plays a hell of alot of thirds for someone who tries to avoid 'em.
I have no idea about this, all i know about carol kaye is that she does love to emphasize the importance of 'chord tones'
10. Try the Ashdown on its side, to get a better dispertion and less bounced signals With the speakers in a vertical line instead of the horizontal. (there was something about this in this months Bass guitar magazine.) I know the Fender is the same but you never know it might help.
11. I asked for a pic of The Fender Marcus Miller , and casually said i could come round and view it at the weekend. So we will See what happens.
12. I think its pan left or pan right with the middle being both equal. Or full pan left is full left on and no right etc. Like a volume control for left and right speakers.

15.
Did the OP not say ones that actually appeared on albums . I have one already prepared
I dont understand this. Are you saying Gene Simmons didnt play on any albums ? (not that i have ever heard a Kiss LP)
16. Can i ask when the new compact will be put back into circulation ?
17. has this started moving yet ?
18. I have no connection with Hatton garden metals, but im sure if i had any old scrap gold or jewelery to flog id take it there rather than any of those con merchant "send us your gold" adverts on tv. (anyone see the Mitchel & Webb pizztake? "Send us your unwanted Uranium"?) A guy on the telly sent them a chain and they offered him £17, he declined it (as they say you can) they then doubled the offer to £34, he still declined and asked them to send it back. He took it to a jewlers and got £67 Any reputable corner jeweler will give you the days scrap gold price as determined by the precious metals price on the stock exchange in London. It is my conmtention that these tv conmen obviously make a mint from confused pensioners selling off the family heirlooms for buttons. Or from people who send in some single item and cant be arsed asking for its return after recieving a derisory offer. How else can they afford to bombard us with tv adverts? Not exactly the cheapest way to advertise, so the returns must be pretty good.
19. just a compressor which i never yet have used.
20. Im glad its finally arrived, hope its ok.
The box was extremely cold so I am having to curb my impatience and allow it to come up to temperature before opening it.
Sir you have a will of iron.
21. I wouldnt say he played with his hand under the bass. He played violin as a kid and he just felt more comfortable with the bass in a somewhat similar posistion.
22. Dont have any tabs but here is one page of sheet music i found. But im sure someone here must have piano music for herb alpert, piano will do for bass. Personally i prefer "A taste of honey" or "Casino Royale"
23. I dont spose you'll still have it in a month or so. But if you do I would probably have it off you.
24.
Tricky question to find a straight answer to! The vast majority of 70s Fakers have long since had their original name truss rod covers removed, and replaced with poorly-faked Rickenbacker ones. These are usually a very roughly-cut piece of perspex over a bit of paper carrying a hand-drawn or smudgily-printed Rickenbacker logo. Most people selling an old Japanese (or Korean, or Brazilian, or Czech) Faker will say it's an Ibanez anyway. 99% of them aren't. The Ibanez 2388B range of Rick copies are very well made but are the most inaccurate of all the MIJ copies, and one of the inaccuracies is that most of them aren't stereo. Late in the life of the model it was heavily revised to make it as accurate as most of the other MIJ copies, and these are stereo. They're also very rare & will cost more than most other Fakers. Stereo Rick copies from a load of different factories were sold under brands like Aria, Aria Pro, CMI, Shaftesbury, Kimbara, JHS, Hondo, Arbiter and various others in the UK, plus a million other names around the world. They are about half & half bolt-on or through-neck in construction, but with the exception of the low-end plywood stuff like the Korean-made Hondo, I wouldn't be put off by a bolt-on; they are exceedingly well-made. There's a guy selling an increasingly realistically-priced Aria here, otherwise your best bet for finding one is the Rickenfakers sticky. J.
Thanks for the advice. Yeah i saw the one Ash is selling. Like i said if it were not xmas time id have it off him. In my neck of the woods too.
