I always go back to Tony Levin on the So album by Gabriel. Love JJB on The Raven. Brad Paisley's 'This Is Country Music' makes a point of attributing every song as 'Fender Precision Bass' and it;s a lovely deep undercoat to his magic.

Disagree about Heroes - just do it differently with the slow build up and smashing end as he tends to do in more modern gigs. Look on YT for him live at the BBC or a modern gig. Excellent song. TBH - a lot of Bowie tracks being suggested I don't know and I would suggest many attending a gig would feel the same. Like Cat People too and This is not America.

Think there was an interview on YOUTube or an article with Nathan Lamar Watts where he said he used a Musician (edit: MusicMan) for songs like Do I Do/I Wish and Sir Duke and detuned by a semitone to make it easier to play.
