Sorry - I just don't get this. He is there to record your sound, not the sound in his head. Just tell him you can't get another bass and it's up to him to sort it out.

Brad Paisley's 'This Is Country Music' makes apt of mentioning a Fender Precision Bass. Normally his bass player uses a Crook bass though:
