1. ok so mine isn't as posh as the beautys posted on here but its the best i can afford & indeed the very best bass i've ever owned. bought just yesterday from Phil at Bass Gear & yes he has some very tasty gear in stock. Sonus "import" standard,me like a lot.
2. "OMG thats f***ing gorgeous" this was my initial thought as my sight fell onto the beautiful Zon Sonus standard bass at Bass Gear in Harrogate, mind this same thought applied to every single bass on display in Phil's new showroom. what was also very nice was Phil telling me i was the very first customer to step into his new showroom,so i'm am also now of course the very first customer to step out of his showroom clutching a beautiful shiny new bass let me here say that i very highly recommend contacting Phil & have a drool over the amazing display off bass gear in his showroom, the welcome is very warm, friendly & with a very personal service, which is a rare thing these days. ok now onto the bass yes it's my bass but i'm still gasing over it. this is the "cheaper" "import" model of Zon basses but don't let that fool you,oh no this is a very high quality instrument indeed, infact i'll do a little review before i let you masturba... oh err i mean admire some photo's of my new beastie. MODEL... ZON SONUS STANDARD 4 string PRICE... £1150.00 FEATURES... body is malple with a gorgeous quilted maple top finished in a very well applied high gloss,3 piece maple neck with rosewood fretboard, 24 frets, abalone position markers.2 nice chunky Seymor Duncan pickups,a very sweet 3band eq,all black hardware including a nice chunky bridge. ACTION,FIT & FINNISH... the build quality on this bass is absolutley incredible,im not kidding either, this thing is a work of art, everything & i mean everything is finnished & assembled to the highest quality on any bass in my possible price range, infact i'd say it is probably as well finnished as basses 2 or 3 times the price.it has without doubt the nicest neck of any bass i've ever owned (that's a hell of a lot i can tell you) & the fretwork is impeccable too, absolute perfection. the bass is very comfortable to play either seated or slung on a strap with a fairly slim neck, rather jazz bass like only much better i think--me like a lot. SOUND QUALITY... amazing ! for the 31 years i have been playing bass i have never been truly happy with whichever bass i have owned (mainly Fender J's)but this bass delivers the goods by the truck load with a very good range of tones & punch on tap. the 3 band eq is really very good, all controls work perfectly & even on full bass boost the tone doesn't become "boomy" ,like all my previous active basses have.infact i used this bass at a gig last night & got the best bass sound i have ever had & i mean ever. OVERALL... I just love it to bits,if Joe Zon had made a bass just for me it would be this one honest. i can't recommend this bass highly enough,i played it back to back with the far more expensive U.S. model & it is very very nearly as good,it really is. I can very highly recommend Bass Gear in Harrogate too fantastic service so check it out. ok i'll stop rambling now & let you see some pics of the bass (kleenex at the ready) cheers
3. Fibbers in York,i spend an age trying to get a decent sound coming from my amp, which the sound engineer promptly turned to mud through the PA.
4. they are indeed a very good bass for that old school classic rock tone, especially considering how cheap they are.
5.
Hey Artisan, I could probably arrange the same drop off point again. PM me if you get enough money together. Cheers Keith
hi Keith, thanks for that. cash wise i should be ok (i think) i just need to run it past the wife as i'll have to borrow her car to get there. if all works out early sunday sounds good to me,especially thinking about saussage mcmuffins
6.
Double sausage McMuffin - which was the right way to start my drive to Southampton, picking up this bass along the way. You'll need to plan this well, artisan. You don't want to stop at a Wimpy services - aim for a nice KFC, or some such
oh the healthy diet,i can feel the ponds dropping off my waiste line just thinking about it.
7.
I met Keith's uncle on J27 of the M62, having a spot of Macdonald's breakfast, when I sold the bass to him
that'd do it,you can't beat a nice healthy breakfast

damn,i don't enter this part of BC very often & didn't know about this,i've had many a chuckle over his witty posts & wondered why i've not seen any for a while, very sad news indeed.
10.
new price for the Bass is around £1500, not a Vintage jobby, dont get why the price should increase £150 when the guys literally owned it for 24 hours? oh well, should have got there quicker in the first place, it'll show up here soon i think cos i've offered less than he paid for it
good man,i hope you offered him £150 less than he paid, after all if he's really skint
11. i don't know if you've ever hear of this guy,i certainly hadn't until last friday night. my band "the growlers" were supporting "The Pat Macmanus Band" at the west park hotel here in Harrogate, which was a fantastic night btw especially as it was our come back gig too. Tom Attah was the other supporting artist & i thought he was fooking ace, mind i like a bit of good old fashioned blues,he's a real nice guy too. I had a good natter with him which started with him complimenting my bass playing (quote: "your sound & feel are ace" ),which was nice. mr Macmanus (ex Mama's boys) were very good too with bass player Gerry Sheridan playind a mean Lakland at knee level all night,he's a cool dood too, think Angus Young but playing bass. anyroad here's a link to Tom's website check out his video & let me know what you think. http://tomattah.com/media.php cheers.
12. oooohhhhh 'eck
13. actually i quite like it
14. my blues band has been playing this song for years with lead guitar playing the main riff,a touch of rythm guitar, drums & me trying to stay awake playing a very dull bass line, which grooves along quite nicely btw. + there's nowt wrong with playing it it E either as i'll be damned if i'm going to down tune my bass for anyone or even use one of them modern multi string fangled things either
15. what Retroman said i've got a '95 standard with a lovely birds eye maple top,Bart's & Bart eq. it gives a lovely deep warm & oh so punchy tone but is also more versatile than i expexted too, with the bridge pickup solo'd it gives a suprisingly good finger funk tone - just don't try to slap it. i've been a life long,30 years of playing, Fender fan but was never really happy with the sound i was getting from them as i've always wanted a bass that gives me a "studio" sound but in a live situation,i now have it & love it to bits.
16.
Corona series Jazzes came with one piece pick guards in the late 90s. They were made from US parts, shipped to Mexico for finishing when Fender had to retool to comply with new emissions laws.
I had an olympic white on bought of Beedster,if i remember correctly it had stratocaster style knobs. btw it was an 'orrible old plank
17.
You want to know how Thunderbirds sound!? Put it this way, the sound of Thor's Hammer smashing a mountain pales in comparision to the thunderous rapport of a Thunderbird!
nicely put Buzz lol
18.
Good call with the Les Paul bass! I have an early 90's Gibson Les Paul bass, with the Bartolini pickups, and pre amp. Sounds huge
cheers i love it to bits. i think mine is the same model,it's a 1996 one & defo has the pre amp so i'd assume it has Bart's too. i'm not an active fan usually but then this is no normal active bass as there is no aweful zingyness at all, love it
19. i've just bought a beautiful Gibson Les Paul bass of John who was good enought to bring from York to my house & very nice it is too. John is an absolute top bloke to deal with & a real nice guy too. cheers John, you're a gent'
20.
Nice one, I had one of those, and was amazed at the amount of comments/interest it seemd to inspire. As well as that, they play like a dream, and have an amazingly rich sound, plenty of low bottom end, rather like the T-Bird in fact, but so much easier to play and carry aout.
now i'm really excited really looking forward to playing this little baby it sounds just what i'm looking for. cheers
21.
Nice - fancy one of them myself
cheers. by all accounts it looks just like this one
22. i bought one of these http://www.roland.com/products/en/D-BASS_210/ as i'm a lazy bastard too & couldn't be arsed to cart my SVT rig around, but the Roly was so damn good & actually louder than the SVT (it sounds better too) that i sold the big heavy sodding wardrobe thingy-er i mean ampeg & just use this for every thing.
23. looks like i've binned the T'bird idea now,the stupid strap button mentioned above eing one the the reasons (yes i'm a fat bastard) and i will hopefully recieve a 1996 Gibson Les Paul standard bass this evening how excited am i ? cheers guys
24. this little baby has now gone to it's new daddy.
