1. thanks for the replies guys. I do plan on buying OHM's bass if i can sell my MM & he can meet me somewhere (i don't fancy driving all the way to surrey),but if he sells his first i'll have to look else where + i do like the look of the Thomman basses, mainly the flame or blueburst finish. i do fully expect the cheaper DB to be pretty crap so that's maybee not an option for me as i do like good quality kit,but it will depend on which BG I can sell..
2. well you've done it you buggers i've got both of my BG's up for sale, although i'll only sell one of them,so depending on which one goes first decides how much i can spend on a propper DB. i've being looking on Thomman's website at various basses but know bugger all about them so - if my Big Al sells i'll either buy OldHorseMurphy's bass or what i really fancy is the white flames DB on Thommans site http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_hot_flames_wh_bass_3_4.htm or if my G&L sells i was thinking of getting a cheapo Rockabilly bass http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_kontrabass_rockabilly_weiss.htm are these basses ok ? do any of you own one or have played one ? would i notice a big difference between them? i plan on gigging whatever i buy & from what i've read elsewhere it seems a laminated bass is preferable to a carved bass,is this true. cheers.
3. bump i will get some photo's up, i promise
4. bump
5.
That one OldHorseMurphy is selling would be ideal.
lol what was i saying,i've just put both of my basses up for sale. if the big al sells i'll buy OldHorseMurphy's bass if the g&l sells i'll buy a cheapo Thomman rockabilly or something similar.
6. in mint condition currently set up with Fender flats, plays & sounds very nice, very versatile bass with a good range of tones available. here's a link to these basses http://www.guitargui...=11061713125527 comes with an as new Hiscox hard case (the keys are still taped to the inside of the lid as it came new) price is £500 cash on collection or i can meet you somewhere near me. sorry no trades on this please. cheers.
7. ooks exactly like this one in excellent condition with original hard case, currently set up with Fender flats (amazing setup if i say so myself) this is the best bass i;ve ever had my mits on ! the only reason i'm selling is i'm making the change to upright bass & there is one on this here forum i've got my eye on so if that sells i'll probably pull this. price is £900 cash is prefered where possible. these cost a damn fortune new so this has to be a good price. edit:http://www.soundsliv...RW~ID~11372.asp sorry no trades unless you have a sexy accoustic upright. collection prefered but i will drive a reasonable distance to meet up,or providing i can source a decent box you can arrange your own carrier for this lovely bass.
8.
That one OldHorseMurphy is selling would be ideal.
cheers TPJ I'love to buy that but it's out of my price range unfortuately,i'd have to sell the big al (which i'll not even consider) & am pretty skint after having a new boiller fitted at home.. my budget would be what i could sell my G&L for + a little extra.
9. i thought the Gear4Music ones would be crap & won't be buying one,but it's the only place i know of that i can go to & just have a quick play on a 3/4 DB. I could do with finding someone with a second hand DB who wants to swap for my G&L (i know i know) as for my Stagg EUB i'm quite impressed with it,maybee i was lucky but it seems to be a pretty good piece of kit & is the best £249 i ever spent on a musical instrument but what i really want is a propper DB.
10. at the moment i'd say Al Gare (Imelda May) as i'm trying to play double bass.
11. sexy version & a great song,i like it a lot. i've got a very good pc sound set up & that DB sounds fantastic, nicely played too. good mix too.
12.
Tell him to leave one of his guitars at home
haha LOL he'll just love that
13. ok you buggers,i might have to nip into gear4music just to have a look / go on one & see how massive it actually is,then of course once i have talked myself into it i'll have to flog my G&L. i'm still not shure about the transport thing though as my bro's vectra estate has to fit my gear + his gear, including his two Gretsch guitars so i don't think it'll go.
14. oh you nasty nasty people you're not helping my GAS at all
15. stop it you buggers you are starting to tempt me,next thing i'll be trying to swap one of my BG's for a DB.
16.
I'd skip the EUB and go straight for the doghouse if you can
i must admit i'd love one as my brother wants us to do a rockabilly stlye band, sort of Imelda May (but not as good) so it would be perfect but alas i don't really have the room in my little house + i'm reliant on my brother for lifts to gigs/rehersals.
Slowbluesline has a rather lovely Bespoke EUB in the for sale forum for a very good price.
thanks for the tip,but i have to say i'm not keen on the look of it but i'm shure its a mega bass. i was browsing at the BSX bass website & really like the look of both the Allegro or the Half Note but there again can't afford one of those. http://www.bsxbass.com/products.html
17. i did have a few minor intonation issues but i was the only one who noticed them anyway what i really enjoyed the most is not having to play a flurry of notes to fill in the rythm while my bro' was soloing as the DB has so much presence that just one or two notes easily filled the sound out. i think i'm hooked,i've already been looking at good quality EUB's----here comes the GAS
18. what can i say,up until friday evening i had never even held a double bass of any kind let alone played one,but after only a max' of 6 hours practice i took it along to my gig last night & wow ! our band do quite a few old 50's rock 'n' roll tunes, which i usually play on my musicman but last night i used my cheapo stagg & i am totally amazed at the difference, every member of the band loved it to bits, the audience seemed to be pretty impressed with it too, especially my wee inpromptu solo in "stray cat strut". i have to say it was one of the most enjoyable gigs i have ever played & even though i have a lot to learn on the upright i just felt "connected" to it,almost as if it is an extension of me,love it. it made my BG sound positively weedy on the songs i used that on too.
19. yawn,as RhysP said earlier "same old sh*te"
20. brings back memories of almost every gig i ever played. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYlsSWW0rPI
21. i'm not shure to be honest but it does seem to be a bloody good price http://www.normans.co.uk/p-1282-rocket-by-stagg-34-size-electric-double-bass-outfit.aspx looks like DPD are delivering it to me tomorrow too
22.
Good stuff. You'll really enjoy it. You should get in touch with Geoff on here for some intro lessons to avoid any injury.
thanks for that Tom,do you know how i can get in touch with him. i must admit i'm really looking forward to it,i just love the sound of an upright. p.s. how's the P bass going ? i'm really loving the Big Al
23. well i've never posted in here before although i have been browsing & talking myself into buying something. i din't want to spend much on an EUB just incase i don't get on with it so was initially looking for a used one,but this lunch time i noticed that Norman's are doing the Stagg EUB34 for £249.95 with free delivery. Before i knew it my Barclaycard jumped into my sweaty hand & i had bought one,I just hope i like it when it gets here. I've never played an upright before so it should be an interesting experience for me after 33 years of playing bass guitar.
24. i have Fender 55 - 105 flats on both of my basses & love 'em to bits especially as £17.95 delivered.
