I'm afraid it's all about the feel for me!
i agree it's a very important factor with any instrument & this little beauty feels incredible to me,much nicer than my USA P bass to be honest. it really is worth the drive up,i could always meet you on the motorway somewhere.

Are you interested in a swap?
hi,the Shuker weighs in at 7lbs on my scales which is pretty light. thanks for the offer but i'm not looking for a Jazz i'm afraid cheers

now this bass is bloody gorgeous & yes i think i am mad to even consider moving it on but that's just me construction is second to none & being the original pre-production item it is actually a full on hand crafted Shuker custom build bass (i.e. no pre made parts assembled) the body is swap ash finished in "Tiger Amber" which is a satin transparent amber laquer over black grain fill, it's bloody lovely too & has a much nicer grain than the production models seem to have. the neck is the usual maple with maple fretboard, both woodwork & fretwork are absolute perfection. hardware is slightly different to a standard one with light weight Schaller machine heads instead of the stock clover leaf items (i think they suit the bass better) & the bridge is also different, although i confess to having no idea as to what it is. the pickups look like the usual Jazz bass single coils's but are infact Shuker custom stacked humbuckers & sweet sounding they are too. also the bass has being marked with a pre-production serial number by mr Shuker to proove it is what it is. overall the bass is very light weight at only 7 lbs on my bathroom scales(much lighter than my U.S Fender P) plays & sounds very nicely indeed. setup is mega, curretly with Ernie Ball flatwounds but i'll happily fit the rounds that came on it if you prefer. the only reason for me moving it on are that i nearly always use my P bass as it just fits my current band better (i.e. old farts playing old farts music). ok i'm not wanting trades anymore i'm afraid as my keen GAS radar has locked onto another "must buy" item,so i'm in cash raising mode. straight sale price is now £650.00 for the bass alone or £700.00 with a new Hiscox hard case cheers. p.s. i'd rather not post it if at all possible but will meet up somewhere. EDIT: Shuker Satinline info' the Satinline basses are the result of a collaboration between Jon Shuker & high end bass retailer BassGear. they are produced in batches & sold through BassGear only as "off the shelf" i.e. ready built & in stock. as stated this bass is the pre-production prototype, the very first one ever built & has the correct serial number marked to proove the fact. cheers for reading Neil.
How much do I owe you for not being described as the 'slightly less ugly one on the right'? I do have a very stupid look on my face though

Right - that's your bass used for the publicity shots, then! The specs say the bridge is a Gotoh, and the one on the production model could well be a Gotoh 203. No matter, if I had one I'd probably bung a 3D on anyhow. I'm fighting unnecessary GAS really hard here - that's a great-looking bass, somehow looks even better in the pic you linked to, I absolutely love the finish! J.
go on do it you know you want to p.s. that is indeed my bass on the photo's
That's a lovely bass and if I was in the market for a J spec bass in that price range, it would be the first one I looked at. The bridge is interesting, not seen that design before - looks like it's heavily derived from the Schaller 3D (my usual choice of bridge on Fender-style basses) - does it have adjustable spacing? Jon.
hi Jon if you click on this link http://www.bassgear.co.uk/bass-guitars/shuker/ then click on the picture on the bottom you'll see 2 blokes holding Satinlines. the ugly bloke on the left ,Phil from bass gear,is holding the prototype (my actuall bass) where as t'other bloke is holding a production model which has a different bridge to mine & different tuners. mine certainly doesn't have adjustable string spacing & i've no idea what the bridge is but it looks cool. the production model has black clover leaf Hipshot tuners where mine has modern style Schaller units. it is certainly a fantastic bass though,i'd rather part with my balls than this 'ere bass.

i actually swapped my Zon for the prototype Satinline at Bassgear on friday & i am mighty impressed with it, especially after i set it up just how i like 'em. as mentioned above it is a real feather weight at about 8lbs & the build quality is amazing, much better than any Fender jazz i've every played plus the finish is beautiful, some very nice craftmanship has gone into this bass. also although the pickups may look like your standard single coils they are infact split coil humbuckers so sound nice & punchy, like a standard jazz on steroids also with none of that annoying single coil buzz normally assosiciated with the Fenders. so i can highly reccomend one of these babies, especially when you consider that a U.S. Fender jazz is at least £200.00 more & nowhere near as good. plus of course Phil at Bassgear is a damn nice bloke too
