1. did i hear my name hi fumps, the Stagg is a very good starting point & sounds pretty much like a propper DB it's fairly similar to play too having a DB neck on it + they have side position markers on too which is a real help with intonation. infact i'm thinking of selling mine on if you are interested,it's only 3 months old & in mint condition too but since i got my DB i've not used the Stagg at all so it may as well go to a new home. i've sorted the rattling end pin on mine too as they are prone for that, drop me a PM if interested,i'm not a greedy man so won't try to fleece you edit: just noticed your in Leeds,if you fancy a drive to Harrogate you're welcome to come & have a go.
2.
Where is Sunday's gig?
hi,its at the Mitre in Knaresborough
3.
Whilst pretty much all of my gigs are on DB, I still practice electric more than DB. I suppose that accounts for my somewhat dubious intonation
lol i've cheated & stuck some side position markers on,done wonders for my confidence playing the beast.
4. I still like my BG but I've been playing that for 33 years now so its a little stale now whereas the DB is my new toy & I just bloody love it,second DB gig coming up this sunday
5.
Good stuff! Can't deny playing this thing brings out the show off in anyone. I never tire of the looks you get carrying it into a gig, then all the second looks when what comes out the speakers not chamber music but that huge ground shaking clatter, and yes it's so physical and dynamic to play people just have to watch. I love playing this thing, however mediocre i am.
a big +1 i got some looks just carrying it into the venue. i just love playing mine too,the poor old BG just sits & collects dust now.

7. now listed on ebay cheers
8. hi,it went pretty well really especially after Mr Bassman (a.k.a. Keith) arrived & sorted out my sound spiking/feedback issues--mega thanks for that Keith. i had aweful feedback problems during the first set where i daren't let any notes run on for more than a second or so which left me a tad uncomfortable & stressed,so didn't really enjoy the fist set to be honest. During the interval Keith arrived & promptly sorted out my problems (big big thank you Keith) so the second set was much more fun & i really began to enjoy it,although i began to get tired half way through. all in all a good night,my bass played really well & gave an awesome sound,i even did a little simple slapping which i was quite pleased with. but without the help from Keith the night may have been a disaster so thanks again Keith. p.s. how did the video's turn out Keith, will I be embarrased to see them
9. I'm a DB newbie still so I know next to nowt really i wanted to get that real old 50's bass sound but didn't want my strings to be really low tension,I was recommended Innovation super silvers & they fit the bill very well indeed. lovely warm thumpy sound, medium tension, good for my fumbling attemps at slapping, sound great for old rock 'n' roll tunes & also sound mega on the couple of Johnny Cash songs we play. these are about £75.00 new not sure how they compare to silver slaps but i think tone wise they're pretty similar just the slaps are lower tension.
10.
Good luck for tonight! I just rest mine on the upper bout of my bass - works a treat.
cheers Rev LOL that's the only way i can get near my bass
11. sounds like a plan to me.
12. a big thanks for all the replies guys. we had a 3 hour rehersal last night which went really well although i was totally knackered at the end,it sure is a very physical instrument but so so rewarding,i just love it
13. lol i forgot you took those jam session pics,i look like a right miserable sod, must remember to smile. aha how did the video turn out ? edit: must remember to hold the beer belly in a little too, although of course i'm only fat in photographs
14.
It's within walking distance for me 15 mins there, 30 mins back
lol tha's the zig zag effect
15. the Harlow (formally known as The Sheppard's Dog) pub in Harrogate,it's only a fairly small gig but they are usually the most fun.
16.
You'll be fine that bass almost plays itself!
mind it was set up by a master cheers for all the comments guys,i'm really looking forward to it,i've not been this excited about a gig for a while
17. thanks everyone. i'll be taking it very steady & not attempt anything flash at all. looks like it's a drummerless gig too (trying to calm him down would be impossible ),but most of the songs we play didn't originally have drums on anyway. Bluejay - i'll report back on how my baby performs on the night,it sounds awesome through the GK i just hope i can do it justice.
18. oh bugger double post sorry 'bout that
19. can't wait, although i'm just a little worried incase i balls it up but i'll just keep it simple & steady so all should be ok, + it's also the first outing for my new GK MB210 amp' too ,exciting or what. mind i've done a couple of gigs with my Stagg & my Strunal is a lot nicer to play so i'm sure i'll manage just fine (gulp) the only slight worry is that our drummer has had a major op' on his neck so he's out of commision, our usual stand in is away on his jollies & the only other drummer i know is the loudist most over the top earth quake kind off drummer which is not what we need for old school 50's tunes. oh well who needs a bloody drummer anyway,i guess i'd better improve my slapping skills before the gig
20. thanks for that Keith, very nice of you sir.
21. many thanks guys i really appreciate the help. i thought it would be ok but just wanted to double check it was. right now it's time to annoy the neighbours. thanks again everone
22. cheers, you are welcome to come on over & try it out if you like.
23. i just took delivery of my new GK MB210 from Thomann but unfortunately it's come with a Euro power lead (suprise) I have a power lead that fits & i could use but that has a 13A fuse fitted, the GK manual states a 220-240v 10A supply. so can i safely use this lead or do i need to fit a 10A fuse (which i don't have of course) cheers
24. Hi,it is pretty light, Roland's site say 24kg which i'd agree with,i can pick it up one handed no problem at all. it has carry handles on either side & one on top, either way it's easy carry about. cheers
