just a quick update, last saturday we supported the boom town rats at Ripley village hall through a full pro' p.a. rig complete with on stage monitors,no feedback from my bass what so ever & shook the room to its foundations too. my bass sounded awesome & i got some nice comments on the tone,so i'm a very happy bunny indeed. a massive thumbs up to a second sound post & f-hole covers from me
Cheers Artisan - I'm gigging that night too (electric) - but I'll keep an eye out and try to catch you soon - what's yr band called?
my band have a really sh*te name which was none of my doing & also a bit embarrassing too "The Doghouse Doctors" i suggested "Doghouse Boys" but nobody'd listen to old me.

i've got my fist gig with this setup on saturday so i'll report back on how it goes, but at rehearsal last week it sounded just the same to my ageing lug 'oles.
they work a treat don't they, some folks say you only need one side plugged, gonna get me a spare set made, has the guitar player told you to turn down yet
I'd gob him if he did its nice for the boot to be on the other foot for a change. they work really well but i've also got the second sound post too which makes my bass quiet acoustically, which is much better for home practice, but it sounds just the same through the amp.
Is the damping on the string afterlength another anti-feedback measure?
indeed it is good sir,not sure if it makes any difference really but it was the first thing i tried, there's a small piece of dense foam wedged under the tail piece too.
-
ok got my finger out, here's some pics of my f-hole covers made by Jim Fleeting in Ripon who also fitted my 2nd sound post so my bass is "almost" feedback proof & stills sounds mega
You could, if you haven't already, try putting some masking tape position markers down the side of the fingerboard to help while you get used to the scalelength. That may help with intonation for the short term
this is a good idea,i bought some self adhesive dots from my local post office for less than £1.00 they are a massive help & confidence booster.

are you playing the bass lines on DB just as you play them on bass guitar ? if so it doesn't work too well, maybe you are trying to play too many notes,i found with DB you just don't need a big flurry of notes to fill the rhythm out as the notes are so much more ...................

cheers iiipopes i just love sporty's,they're so easy/fun to ride.

made them cringe

i actually had a go at backing vocal last night,it wan't good at all don't think the lads want me to try again.
-
had a rehearsal last night at reasonable volume levels,no feedback at all even when i lent my bass on my amp which amazed me,i'll see how it goes next saturday at full gig volume, but so far i'm very pleased. Slobluesine i promise i will get my finger out & take some pics of my covers for you.

hi,i'm at the Cross Keys in Knaresborough on 18th August, give me a shout if you come over we'll have a beer & laugh at my playing we've got a nice little gig next saturday supporting The Boomtown Rats at Ripley Blues, which should be a good do.
-
singing i've heard myself singing & would pity anyone else who heard me.
-
if you don't sort anything out i'm playing a gig at Knaresborough in a couple of weeks if you fancy a drive over too laugh at my fumbling attempts to slap my bass i have to say though i really didn't get on with the plat pro' at all soundwise but my boss bass eq pedal is indispensable.

hi Chris, nice Bandit, have you bought a new toy to replace it ? yes that's my new baby only had it 5 weeks & love it to bits. i've had too many bikes to count over the years & nearly all of them mental fast sport bikes,i did have a nice XJR1300 that i spent a fortune on, JMC underbraced swing arm etc. i finally got sick of trying to kill myself though & switched to Harley, much prefer it too i actually enjoy riding the bike now instead of just the adrenalin rush i used to get.
-
a big +1 for the super silvers from me,they sound really good & have enough tension to make them nice to play but are still easy to slap. i've had many good comments on my tone from the punters, just need to work on my technique now.
-
i'll take some as soon as i find my camera, house is a mess at the mo' as we've bought some new furniture so stuff's everywhere.
-
i really like my innovation super silvers they give a real nice 50's tone once they're played in & have a decent tension to them, not too much though, punchy as hell too. they're not too dear either http://www.stringexpress.co.uk/dbass.htm i don't have a slap (clickey) pickup at the moment & manage just fine.but i will be buying one very soon though.
-
well my bass is now sporting a rather nice set of removable f-hole covers & a 2nd sound post via Jim Fleeting in Ripon. i won't have chance to try it in a band situation until next thursday but i'm hoping its cured the feedback issues & it certainly looks a damn site better than the bright orange gaffa tape did. another plus for me, as i live in a sh*tty little terraced house with paper thin walls,is the bass is acoustically much quieter now so i can slap the crap out of it without upsetting my neighbours.
Lol...your not wrong there. Im already thinking about new strings and amplification and all sorts of other things.
welcome to the mad house, nice looking bass you've got there.

fitting a clicky to my bass 2 channel mixer ?
artisan replied to artisan's topic in EUB and Double Bass
i will defo be ordering a superior bassworks mixer very shortly, but i need to pay for the mods to my bass tomorrow & i've just bought a new Harley Davidson which needs its 1st service on saturday which is another £200.00,so it'll have to wait for a few weeks now. -
i think i know what you mean,i run mine through a boss bass eq pedal & cut most if the mids out, kind of a V shaped eq with the bottom of the V almost completely cut, pickup mounted on the treble side with a very tight fit & it sounds mega through my Roland. without the eq i didn't like the sound over much,i seemed to get lots of attack from my fingers as you have described & a sh*te sound. i tried a plat' pro' but couldn't get a good tone through that, infact i thought it made it worse,if you have one try a bass eq pedal & bin the plat' pro'
