It is too simplistic to say, as Artisan did, that if you're going to amplify the bass it makes very little difference what it's made of.
'ang on a minute that's not what i said at all,i said if you are going to be playing loud then a laminate will be less prone to feedback !

Very good G on my Strunal
-
I bought my bass from Thomann, their blue burst "Europe" bass with ebony fingerboard. this bass is actually a Strunal 50/4 & i can recommend it very highly indeed, built like a tank & sounds very good indeed. what sort of music are you playing ? if you are going to be playing loud (like me ) you will most likley need a laminate bass rather than a solid wood one for feedback reasons. as for the Archer,i played one in Gear4Music & was not impressed at all, nasty thing it was but it may have just been a bad one.

hi,i just bought an old Aria super bass,at some time the ferrules for the pickup height adjustment screws have been pulled out of the body leaving a hole slightly larger than the actual ferrule & the rear of my pickup way to high. what is the best/easiest way or re-securing these back into the bass body ? i've never attempted anything like this before but thought i'd have a go,or should i take it to a guitar tech' ? cheers
-
i always mute the after length too,i have battled feedback at every gig up until moving the pickup but it seems loads better now.

hi Daf,yes could indeed be exactly that (i'm too thick to think of that) but it certainly cured it & i was so pleased that i dragged my bass to the bar to order a celebratory pint which the landlord didn't charge me for. so no feedback & a free pint - result

played at the Groves in Knaresborough last saturday night & had bad feedback problems all through the first set, ended up with almost no bottom on my sound at all,pro-plat notch filter all the way to the left, sounded sh*te. during our short interval i checked all the usual suspects all to no avail when on a whim i took my bassmax off the E string side of the bridge & stuck it in the G string side. result - no feedback at all & a very nice tone to boot, even with my amp on full power. the weird thing is last time i tried it in the G side it sounded week & (you guessed it ) sh*te. ok ramble over just thought i'd share incase anyone else suffers sudden feedback problems.

oohh that's a bummer ! i've had mine about 4 years now & it's been a very good amp for me for bass guitar but i do seem to struggle to get enough volume out of it for the louder DB gigs. i keep fancying a Genz Benz rig or even a TC Electronic BH750 combo, just can't afford one.
Stick the matching 115X powered cab underneath it - I had the full stack, and you're not gonna get any arguments with 690w!
cheers Muzz i've been looking for one of these but they don't make 'em anymore + i just lost one on ebay the other week

lol we played a cracking gig at Charlie's place in Harrogate last night & even though its a small venue i had to crank my amp up as far as it will go to keep the mix levels correct, thats like 360watts of bass i think i'm gonna need a bigger amp, noisy bastard guitarists. mind you i got a good sound with zero feedback thanks to the Pro-Plat'.
Me neither...normally, but I want to play about with the settings of my Pro Plat pre-amp...so I need an amp for that. Also,my son plays my bass guitar in a band and wants something to use too....so it was going to be a joint amp. Complicated this music lark innit
i have a Roland bass cube 30 for home use & rehersals, cracking amp & pretty loud too. they are usually pretty easy to find on here or ebay.
I would double that wattage if you have a loud drummer. Being underpowered will drive you crazy if you're not going through a pa and the room is big or full. You'll end up turning up too much and distorting horribly. We're by no means loud for a country rock/rockabilly band, but without PA support I need 350W if I'm to have any headroom at all. And that's with a very efficient cab (a Midget). If your back is ok, and the budget is low, I'd say choose loud over light. And don't worry about loud being feedback prone. Feedback is caused by a host of factors, not just the loudness of the amp.
+1 i agree fully with this,my band doesn't have a drummer & don't play overly loud but even though my Roland is rated at 400w (although in reality it is 360w + 40w horn) i still have to crank it up pretty high to keep up with the 2 guitars. i'm pretty sure a 100watt amp will be totally lost in your band Chris so i'd look for something used with planty of power.

i agree, the normal price should have been about £1500.00 or so but this being an ex demo bass it was a lot cheaper although there isn't a single mark on it.
Well I know I would choose ESH: They look awesome. Incredible build quality. I like the way that the body shapes can look outrageous, but they've kept the woods and colours fairly conservative. They sound incredible. ESH piezo circuit sounds like a DB. No-one else uses them. Ergonomically sound; no dive, nice and light, comfortable on the strap or sitting position. For a handmade bass, good value for money. To buy new, you need to go to Mark at Bassdirect. And he's awesome. Truckstop
this sums it up perfectly what an awesome bass this is,the quality just blows me away it is the best £900.00 i ever spent,ok i didn't get a tool kit or gig bag with it (ex demo bass) but i don't really care about those as the bass is just mega. to answer Jellyfish's question - basically i am totally bored with Fender/EBMM etc & just want a bass that is so much more ......... if you know what i mean,my MTD KZ5 (in the sale section) taught me just how much more bass you can get for your money. I just love it
Lovely looking bass that. Shame it's a 35" scale or I'd be very tempted... good luck with the sale.
thanks for that matey you are welcome to come over & have a go on it if you wish. i must say that the 35" scale never bothered me at all it is just the extra string i can't get my head round.

Round wound thuds when fingers hit non played strings
artisan replied to Greggo's topic in Bass Guitars
Just a thought have you checked the neck relief ? When my new Esh arrived it was doing pretty much what you describe, when i checked it over the neck did not have enough forward curve so i slackened the truss rod of a tad & it is now spot on. -
