Have all the expensive basses been a waste of time?
artisan replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
The guitarist who plays in my band has owned quite a few rolexes over the years, but never wears them. They're sat in a safe at home, which means he's always asking me what the time is on my cheapo Seiko. Guitars and basses are like watches; if you hate the idea of them being damaged or stolen, when you take them out of the house, then you should save yourself the bother and expense of buying them in the first place. You could have spent that money getting your old bass set up and modded to perfection by a luthier or tech. And not have to worry about some drunk knocking it off it's stand. Basses are for playing not for hanging on a wall and admiring.
+1 my Alpher will be out gigging tomorrow night,i bought it to play not brag about -
Yup, great tone, great response, and thank god there's such a brilliant alternative to the intolerably boring P-sound.
+1 well said Bluejay
Great purchase, you won't regret it
you are damn right there Pete,it sounds mega with my Alpher through it can't wait to hear the DB thundering through it

Just had a very low volume half hour, this rig sounds real nice even at silly quiet levels,a real nice heft to each note & punchy as hell.
-
Thanks guys,i'll not hear it propperly until my next gig though as living in a crappy little terraced house with paper thin walls i have to be careful about upsetting the neighbours. Marvin - there are some silly deals at B'D' just chuck it on the credit card like what i did
-
My new rig arrived at 9 a.m. This morning, just awesome service from Bass Direct as usual. Only problem is i'm stuck at work so can't go play. Rig looks ace though,i can't believe how small & light the Shuttle is,build quality looks very good too. Come on home time.

haha Yes i'm sure you're dead on there lol
It is a rig of champions why fender are pulling the plug on genz when class d amps are becoming king and companies like barefaced can't make similar cabs quick enough I will never know!!!!
cheers Pete Can't wait to use it in anger at the weekend. As for what Fender are doing,i agree its crazy & makes no sense at all. Wonder if they will simply re-badge them up as Fender.
Fair 'nuff, Art. Here's to your new rig and vaulted ceilings.
soon to be unvaulted
Whatever I use, I'm never short of vol or headroom playing DB. My shuttle 3 and a ten handles all my small/medium gigs.
ah but are you playing noisey Rockabilly with 2 noisey guitards to compete with My Roly manages quite well but only just for the pub gigs we are doing but it will be nice not to have my amp cranked to the max all the time, the Genz should cruise it & of course remove all traces of ceiling plaster from each venue

Just ordered a nice new rig from Bass Direct taking advantage of the clearence offer on his latest news letter. I went for the Shuttle 6.2 head & an NX2-212T cab (4ohm) giving me a useable & pretty compact 600 watts. Watch out noisey guitarists I maninly play Rockabilly Double Bass so i am hoping this little old rig should shake the house down. So my faithful old Roland will be appearing in the for sale section as soon as my new rig arrives.

Lol so i ordered my new rig at lunch time Impulsive me ? Never ! I took the plunge after speaking to Mark at Bass Direct. I ordered the Shuttle 6.2 & an NX2-212T cab, after reading up about them whilst i was supposed to be working this morning The cab is 4ohm so will enable me to use the full 600 watts the head produces & if that ain't loud enough i'll just quit. I can't wait for my gig on Ssturday now
I've got a Shuttle 3 if ya want to try it Niel
hi Keith many thanks for the kind offer:) I would indeed like to hear my bass through you Shuttle sometime if possible, cheers. Will you be coming to see us at Charlie's on Saturday ? I would very much like your feedback on how my Roland sounds out front

Thanks for the replies chaps I've just being checking cab sizes online & as my gear has to fit in my brothers vectra estate along with his gear too i don't think the 210's will fit . Checking the spec on the 12's i just realised that i will only gain 80w which is not a lot, mmmm maybe think again. My Roland sounds really good but i struggle to get it loud enough without pushing the gain too far, which of course leads into feedback territory. What i really need is a compact single cab like a Barefaced Big Baby 2 & a nice meaty clean amp to drive it. Oh & a lottery win to pay for it

I'm considering taking advantage if the recent Genz Benz clearance deals & upgrading my amp but would like a little advice. I'm currently using a Roland D-bass 210 which sounds fantastic but a 320w i am running out of volume for some gigs (pretty loud rockabilly). For the amp head its either a Shuttle 6.2 or a Streamliner 600. I have never used either so can't make up my mind which would be the best bet. As for cabs the choice is either 2 x Focus 210T (2 x 300w) Or 2 x Focus 112T (2 x 400w) Again i have never heard either before. I will have to buy online to trying first is not possible. Myself i am drawn to the 210's as that is what i am used to & i can use the full power of the head. Which would you go for & why. Cheers

Ok so whats wrong with Harley's then ? "all American clown bike" whats all that about ? I ride & love my Harley,i used to ride sports bikes like a lunatic until one near fatality too many,i still like sports bikes i just don't want to ride one ever again. So it really pisses me off when "fast" bikers slag of anything that isn't built for speed. But its ok you are just joking eh

No Just play it & enjoy it matey. Thats what i do with my DB & don't give a damn what anyone else thinks. P.s.

My 2006 MIA standard Jazz was routed exactly the same as the O'P's. Luckily i no longer own it

Get in touch with Paypal you may be able to claim your money back through them. If you had paid direct with you credit card the card issuer would credit you themselves but since the card went through Paypal that won't be an option now. I had a similar experience through ebay a couple of years ago & Paypal eventually refunded me.

60's looking basses- Can anyone recommend one? thanks
artisan replied to highwayone's topic in Bass Guitars
Gibson SG bass or Epiphone EB3 / EB0 Very 1960's & cool looking too. -
I really liked the 2 that I had apart from the weak G string. Are they all like that??
the ones i owned were, had one with 2 band eq & one with 3 band eq,i even put a Nordstrand pickup in one which helped a bit but not much. No amount of adjustment on either the bass or amp sorted the problem out,i couldn't hear it,my band couldn't hear it & the audience couldn't hear it either. I think they look gorgeous but i wouldn't buy another.

I was talking to Alex about one of these a couple of months ago & after reading this i have to get me one soon.
-
Quite agree with you there matey,i hate it too. I guess they are just frustrated lead guitarists.
Never really gave much credence to Abba songs at the time, but on reflection, Rutger Gunnarsson's basslines are a treat... BB
a big +1
