Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give it some thought. The reason I'm looking at playing slap is actually to play it with my morris team. Yes I know it seems odd but we don't have a drum so some persussive lift would be nice. However I really don't want to restring my bass with weedwhackers or similar because of the other music I play. I suppose I could just buy another bass Steve
now you're talking
How flat would people say its response is? And what's the DI like. I love the sound of the 6.0 I have but live and rehearsals could use a little extra oomph in the lows without it clipping so much.
the Shuttle 6.2 has loads more low end ooomph than the older model.

Cheers guys

Bought my blue burst European bass from Thomman 2 years ago. It is infact a Strunal 50/4 & very nice it is too, built like a tank, sounds great.

Rather you than me I believe the orchestral strings tuned down to E are a good bet as you will have a lower tension which would certainly help with slapping, other wise you will most likley rip the hell out of your pinkies. Check out Rotosound RS4000 strings,Rabbie on here recommended them to me & i really love them, just an ace sound, plain nylon D + G with wrapped E + A. They give a nice "old school" sound with a very nice click, plenty of punch & are a breeze to slap too.
Good stuff, Glad you've sorted it out Think I'd miss the acoustic tone myself, but that's just my preference Is it a huge difference in tone? How has it affected volume? Cheers Marc
hi Marc. Accoustic volume is way way quieter, perfect for practice in my crappy terrace house but you couldn't gig without amplification. Accoustic tone lacks the richness & depth it used to have. But once amplified it sounds exactly the same as it did before but i can now be as loud as i want without resorting to extreme eq cutting, just plug play & enjoy. I am well happy with it at last & my band are too

A big thumbs up for the Shuttle from me,it definitely isn't thin sounding at all. I play my doghouse bass through it in my loud rockabilly band & my rig can shake the house with ease.

Thanks guys Rabbie - it works a treat as long as its in the right place it is pretty amazing, the 1st time i tried it i still had feedback problems but now it is perfect.

It would seem i have finally killed my feedback problem stone dead after having my 2nd sound post fitted in the perfect spot,ah the bliss of it. Previously i have had to cut so much of my mids just to stop the feedback i always ended up with a less than perfect tone. On my Shuttle i used to have the mid scoop engaged & all the low mids cut + pretty severe eq cuts on my Plat Pro too. All this badly weakened my signal so with preamp gain & volumes at 12 o'clock i was running the master at about 3/4 in regular pub gigs just to be heard,i was thinking my rig was gutless. Now my amp is set flat,no need to use the mid scoop,a wee tweak on the Plat to taste & master at only 9 o'clock, wow is this baby loud or what. I'm pretty sure i don't actually need the Pro Plat at all now,i'll try run straight from my K&K mixer straight into my amp at the next gig. I couldn't get over what a great tone i now have & being able to actually have some mids my slap/click really cuts through with no trace of feedback, even stood right next to my amp. Of course i have virtually no accoustic tone now but since i always need to play amplified in my band i couldn't give a toss. Adios mr feedback

Either way it will be a cracking bass anyway,i have yet to play a 2008 onwards USA Fender that wasn't.
-
Almost certainly & a 2 chanel blender of some sort. My clicky has no where near the output that my bassmax chucks out.
Used Roland all the way through my college years as we were endorsed by them, wouldn't recommend to anyone. I've heard Genz stuff is the Bee's Knees so I'd go with that!
really ? I gigged a Roland D bass 210 for a few years & found it to be a brilliant piece of kit.
Ok I'm coming into some money in the next 2 weeks or so. Currently I play a epiphone eb0 which to be honest I love. It's goodlooking, has a nice thin neck, it's a nice weight. But it's tonel range is very limited and the 3 point bridge apart from looking cool is a pain. And I guess if being honest I would like something with a bit more street cred. I'm looking at getting a Gibson sg bass or a fender mustang. But do I really need a better bass?. Or am I just wanting to spend money for the sake of it.
silly place to ask that question lol This place is full of long term sufferers of GAS who just can't help buying new basses just for the hell of it. Treat yourself you're only hear once
This is just my opinion but I find the whole concept of the Fender Deluxe range a bit strange; for me Fender is about classic styling & a classic sound (which is why I'm going to buy Fender as my 4-string later this year) - most if not all of the bassists of the past that made Fender so popular were using passive basses & that is the sound that I associate with Fender. If you like the Fender look but want a modern active sound I would definitely look more towards the other brands that borrow the Fender look but pack all the modern bits in - for the price of a deluxe you could get a killer bass from one of the others...
the 2010 onwards deluxes have an active/passive toggle switch so the vintage Fender sounds are there too. Personally i think the new Deluxes are fantastic instruments, just wish i could afford one.

The new American Deluxe Jazz & Precision are very very nice indeed,i really want one.
For all you nippers out there - when you start reaching 50, and you get out of bed in the morning and need to make a nice brew before grabbing your Bass Guitar Magazine and performing your morning caca (which is the only time you will get some peace and quiet), you will look like that guy while you're waiting for your kettle to boil.
...I couldn't see it, myself.
oh its very easy to spot, its the twitching twat holding the bass
Remember that if you're using flatwounds they don't like thru-body stringing.
must say i have never had a problem with Ernie Ball flats strung through the body but Labella's certainly don't like it.

I always watch it & it is always a pile of sh*te
