Wow, that is stunning and - as you say - poles apart from the other main bass in your sig On a related note, the modern take on this (Gibson SG bass) seems to be really good value (£599 for the 2014 'Special' or the faded cherry version at Dawsons) given its US-made. Got me thinking ....
Clarky - i just got a chocolate satin SG Special on tuesday & really love it. Silly price for a USA Gibson & the vintage brown hardcase is rather nice too.

Ooooh that is very nice indeed,i am somewhat envious.
Hi, I am very tempted to invest. I love these basses - recently got an american special and have set it up for purpose. I'd would love a second with alternative set up. I was over at Harrogate playing Charlie's place the other day - had I seen this earlier, I'd have been in touch to drop in and have a look. Will consider the coffers !!! and get back to you. If I'm too late, my loss...... Bump!!!!
Charlie's is a good little venue we play quite regular there, infact we are there next saturday night. I can always meet you there you are always most welcome to call round for a look & a brew of course,or i can always meet you somewhere. -
I recently played a strunal that was from the factory. Um it had a lot of white glue going on and not much else. Pretty expensive too for what it was. I'd go with the hora ones.
absolutley no glue showing anywhere on my Strunal, infact build quality is very good indeed as is the sound it produces. It always irks me when an entire brand is slated bassed on someone's experience with one poor example. When i bought mine from Thomann i was trying to decide between a Strunal & a Hora,Thomann's strings dept' advised me to go with the Strunal as it sounded somewhat better than the Hora.

Well i've had a good play this evening & really like this little bass very much indeed,it sounds pretty nice with the stock rounds too so i might keep 'em on for a while.

So my SG arrived this morning but i'm at work so can't have a play until this evening. I must get rid of the aweful roundwounds & put some flats on it asap,i can't decide what to get though, preferably some without silk windings as i have heard these can run over both the nut or bridge saddles. Any idea's ? Cheers

artisan posted a topic in EUBs & Double Basses For Sale
these have been on my bass for six months or so & have done a few gigs but are in very good condition with years of life left in them. they will fit both 3/4 & 4/4 basses. very punchy sounding strings, ideal for slap, jazz or pizz'. £55.00 posted to mainland U.K. -
can't belive this hasn't sold, you won't find a better one. so i am having to drop the price as i need to sell move it on. new price £650.00 *********************** collected now that is a bargain In mint condition with no dings or marks of any kind. When i say this bass is NOS,it was hanging in my local guitar store since 2009 & bought by me a few months ago,the Olympic white paint has taken on a beautiful cream kind of tone with hanging in the shop for so long,i think it looks sublime. It really is a "new" bass. I have no idea why it was there for so long as it is a lovely example of a post 2008 P bass,it plays & sounds just as it should. It has a lovely coloured rose wood fret board with very nice grain indeed & comes with the usual SKB hard case with case candy, all of which is unused/unopened appart from the truss tool which i have used. Currently set up with Ernie Ball Group 2 flats with very low action, sounds propper vintage. It is for sale only so no trade offers please. Located in Harrogate, collection prefered. Priced to sell at £650.00,which should make someone very happy as it's a bargain,a minter USA P bass for silly money

The standard is the same appart from the headstock inlays, trapezoid position markers & a gloss finnish. The electrics & everything else are the same.

All the talk of SG basses got my GAS going, like it does,so after a lunch time browse i caved in & bought a satin chocolate jobbie from Dawson's for the bargain price of £599 including vintage brown hard case. What a bloody silly bargain Can't wait for it to get here next week. A few years ago i had one of the SG Reissue basses & always regretted selling it. If anyone fancies my Fender P that will be in the fo rsale section this evening
We have two 2013 Gibson SG basses (brown faded and a heritage cherry standard) at work and I love them both. The SG standard is going for silly money so I have to fight temptation almost every shift. Normally I'm not a Gibson bass fan but they are both lovely examples and the tone from the standard is awesome. Fat and thumpy humbucker which oozes vintage rock vibes. Sorry, this probably hasn't helped your (or my!) gas at all lol!
hi,where do you work ? I'm just about to pull the trigger on an SG from Dawson's.
Some people like that sort of thing.... My 50s ply hasn't cost me any money since I had the soundpost glued in.
good maneuver Rev,both my soundposts are glued in too.
-
You don't necessarily need a preamp with the bassmax but you might find you prefer the sound with one. I find it a bit honky without a preamp.
+1 If you din't have a preamp you could run it through an eq pedal which will help you with any feedback problems too. This is what i used to do but a good preamp is a better bet,the Fishman Pro Platinum being a popular choice.

Rabbie has one -
Hi guys, sorry about my lateness in this thread. As a proud Duke owner and player of it everywhere from studio to clubs to theatres to big open air festivals please allow me to say with all sincerity: DUKE RULES!! And Thomas is the best guy in the world to deal with. Honestly fella, if you play roots music and live in Europe, look no further. Even if you play jazz and just want to swing hard a la be-bop way old style bass playing, again look no further. Ask me any questions you want I am passionate about how great my Duke sounds. New album will be released soon with Duke very prominent in the mix.
hi Rabbie, your Duke looks ace. I am defo going to get one in the future, can't afford one just yet though but i think it will happen. It will mean i have to sell my Strunal though but i should get good money back for a well setup/sorted bass. Can you put me down for a copy of your new album once its released please, can't wait to hear the Duke.

American standard and Cleveland New standard in the UK ?
artisan replied to spencer.b's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I was speaking to Thomas at Duke bass via his Facebook page yesterday,he does a model called "the peacemaker" that is basically a 7/8 American Standard copy & sounds very interesting. -
If you look at Duke Bass' facebook page, Thomas put some photos up yesterday of a dark brown left-handed 2-tone that's going to be heading my way very shortly. So I'll gladly tell you all about it once its here!
you lucky man you it is gorgeous. Yes please do let me know all about it,i really want one & the missus has given me the go ahead, all i need now is some money I spoke to Thomas yesterday, what a great bloke he is too,he told me he doesn't ship his basses but knows a company local to him who can. Is this how you are shipping yours ?

Mmmmm Rabbie's bass is very nice indeed Rev. I am gasing for a Duke two-tone,i keep gazing at the photo's on their website while my credit card runs for cover.

No not the rasping smelly kind I have really bad gas for a Duke bass, anyone got one or played one?
Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give it some thought. The reason I'm looking at playing slap is actually to play it with my morris team. Yes I know it seems odd but we don't have a drum so some persussive lift would be nice. However I really don't want to restring my bass with weedwhackers or similar because of the other music I play. I suppose I could just buy another bass Steve
now you're talking
How flat would people say its response is? And what's the DI like. I love the sound of the 6.0 I have but live and rehearsals could use a little extra oomph in the lows without it clipping so much.
the Shuttle 6.2 has loads more low end ooomph than the older model.
