1. Thanks again to you zero9 i have been reading up on the RS4000's over lunch and actually ordered a set from Amazon. After reading up on the guts i think they are just too much faffing about for me,after all i am fat & lazy. Fingers crossed i will like them,i'm sure they will be nicer to slap than the super silvers & hopefully have a nicer clck too. Cheers again
2. Aha thanks for the info zero9 much appreciated. Would these be a better bet for me do you think ? Cheers
3. I bought one of the Thomann 1E basses, the blueburst one,& couldn't be happier with it. Sounds and plays very good & suits what i use it for very well indeed.
4. i am very tempted to buy a set of these but have never played guts before hence why i am asking you guys. I play only 50's style slap (or at least try) and want the authentic sound without spending a fortune. I currently use super silvers but although they play nice have a "middy" kind of sound to them. I tried the superior deluxe wackers too but soon fell out with the very uneven tension and found intonation difficult with them too. I am pretty cerain i will like the guts and Bob Gollihur rates the Lenzers too. If i get some i am thinking wrapped E and plain gut A D and G,id this a good idea or should i get wrapped A too. I saw a top rockabilly band "The Houndogs" on friday night, the bass player is the best slap player i have seen,he used wrapped E and A & gets an awesome sound. Also i guess they will be difficult to fit too and i'm not good a tying knots or filing the woodwork of my bridge either. Should i go for it ?
5. Cograts on the new bass matey, looks very good for the price infact it was a bargain. Enjoyy
6. Glad to hear it went well,it's great isn't it. I only starter on DB last year but l'm totally hooked now,my poor bass guitar hardly gets a look in now.
7. as above enjoy your gig & be prepared to fight the feedback. if you are using your Boss GEB-7 & your bass is anything like mine be careful with the 120hz slider on your eq,that was the main feedback area for me i used to have to cut it drastically to kill the howl.
8. a big up for Roland amps from me,my D-Bass 210 is awesome for db & it even my little basscube 30 is good for db too so i'd think one of the louder bass cube's would suit you very well indeed. i play in a 50's band & use my 30watt bass cube at rehersal & it does the job very well indeed (we don't have or need a drummer) used a Boss GEB7 pedal for quite a while but was always fighting the feedback,as mentioned above the Fishman pro-platinum bass is worth its weight in gold.
9. ok so after a little experimentation i've decided that my prefered strings & pickup are the ones i first started out with, so these little blighters are now up for sale as a complete package. T.M. Billy special pickup (with clicky) http://www.superiorb...84_6115711.aspx (sounds a little less boomy than my Bassmax & doesn't feedback as easily) Passive pickup blender http://www.superiorb...84_7849524.aspx (works fine but needs a preamp as the output is a little low) 12" stereo (TRS) cable in blue http://www.superiorb...84_7849545.aspx (does what it says on the tin) Deluxe "dirty gut" DB strings http://www.superiorb...84_6219678.aspx (set of 6 strings, used & cut to fit my 3/4 Strunal but in good nick - sound pretty good too) yes after some expense i've decided that i don't really need a clicky at all so this 'ere lot is surplus to requirements. price is £50.00 collected from me or £60.00 posted to U.K. cheers
10.
Hi I'm new to BC Having just upgraded my double bass to a 3/4 german flat back I am now in the market for a new bass bag. I am considering one of these... http://www.thomann.d...tige_3_4_bl.htm My budget is up to £200 so I can't go in to Soundwear territory unfortunately. Just wondered what other people are using and their thoughts?
hi,i have one of the Gewa bags & i'm very happy with it,i did loads of gigs last year with no problems at all.
11. & now withdrawn from sale many thanks
12. in very good condition & in perfect working order. i got this last March but have swapped to a different pickup now so this may as well move on. £65.00 posted to the U.K. cheers
13. well i got the pickup fitted & am well pleased with it,infact it sounds better than the bassmax to my ears. unfortunately i can't use the clicky at the moment,i ordered a passive blender from superior but lucky old me got a faulty unit which has been wired up the wrong way around but there is a new unit on its way to me shipped within an hour of me contacting Brandon
14.
I've had a chance to use my recently acquired Basswork Superior Deluxe 'dirty gut' strings and like them. They're easier to slap in general, and give a 'darker' tone over the RS4000's I was using. They are somewhat quieter though, probably because of the lower tension. They work very well with my current K&K Rockabilly pickup set-up. For the price, I'd say these are highly recommended (especially for slap playing). They also settled in very quickly.
they are good arn't they,i love to sound of them. took you're advice & bought a new pickup,TM billy special, fitted it las night but not had chance to try it yet. i sat a while deciding where to mount the clicky & settled for the front of the scooped section on the fingerboard,i'll see how it works tonight.
15.
Lana del Rey appears to be in her soundcheck outfit.
agreed,i'd really love to see her in her birthday suit
16. just an update,i ate humble pie & bought a Fishman Pro Plat form Amazon (£128.00) played a gig friday night at a local pub,we were pretty loud & my bass was really belting it out (enough to make the toilet seats in the gents vibrate apparently ) i didn't get the slightest bit of feedback even when i leant the bass on my amp & just stood in amazment at the silence,i am really really impressed with the Fishman now i know how to use it,i had the best sound i've ever had too with good comments from the punters along the lines of "that bass sounds f***ing ace mate" i when through the effects return jack to bypassing my amp's preamp so maybee that helped too i'd never tried that before but man can my Roland belt out the bass. i'm so pleased i've finally cured the feedback.
17.
Might I suggest shortening her chain....so that she can only reach the cooker, fridge, sink and ironing board
ah words of true wisdom, but don't forget to leave a bed within a chains length too
18. please ignore
19. lol good for you matey,in fact you're 2 years older than me haha you old fart think i going to get a new pickup & blender setup for mr bass so i may sell the bassmax if you are interested?
20.
cheers..I think I might invest in a set...blood red I think
i went with dirty gut & thats pretty much what they look like too,i'm far to old for red strings
21.
Nice tunes, enjoyed listening to those. You mention you don't use a pickup on the fingerboard to give a click, which would make quite a difference and give a much more pronounced 'click'. I would've preferred the bass a bit higher in the mix (as I like bass). Like the singing too I've just received some Bassworks Superior Deluxe's from the US (quick delivery and very good value). Haven't had a chance to try them yet tho'.
cheers Zero,i'd like a clicky but can't afford it at the moment but i'll most likley get the K&K rockabilly setup when i can afford it. i'm sure you'll lover the superiors i found them much easier to play than the inno's & they sound way nicer. Chris F i ordered them direct, took a couple of weeks to get here but well worth the wait.
22.
Ooooo cant wait to hear this. I cant listen at work mate, but I'm now following you on soundcloud so will have a listen tonight.
nice one matey i hope you like it & look forward to your comments
