I have a 475 and right now is my favorite bass. They are awesome basses and this one is very sexy. For that money (and even twice as much) I haven't seen other basses that can stand up to it. The neck profile is simply perfect for me. Bump on me buddy
thanks mate, very kind. i agree with you too, this plays & feels like a much more expensive bass, sounds very good too. if it wasn't for my shoulder i'd be keeping it for shure.

i've only recently bought this bass from PMT Leeds & although i really like it,i have a slightly dodgy left shoulder & so find reaching up the the top of the long neck rather uncomfortable,so it's time to say good bye it plays very nice indeed & gives a very good & varied range of tones from its Bartolini MK2 pickups & Bartolini MK2 pre-amp(3 band). i've not really used it much, thanks to my shoulder,so it's in excellent "good as new" condition still fitted with the strings it came with (which are fine btw). full specs here http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/country/frame_uk.html looks miles better in the flesh & mine has nicer top wood too. this really is a lovely bass but since i can't afford a new shoulder i have to flog it on. i paid £575.00 for it six weeks ago but i am a realist so i guess i can take £400.00 for it & i'll throw in a free Fender deluxe gig bag (mint condition of course). i'd preffer a meet up somewhere but i will post it if i can get hold of a suitable box. p.s. i'll post some photos once i'm home from work. cheers. ok here they are, taken on this lovely yorkshire dreary grey day. p.p.s. i'm not looking for trades as i hopefully have a Jazz arriving this weekend.
Well the Nordy is in. Im not sure if i wired it correctly but its working. I cant say for sure but im not convinced there is any difference in the G string. So far only played through my Korg Pandora and Guitar rig but as i normally do play through these i can get a pretty good idea. If anything i would say it might be a bit thinner but that might just be my imagination. The pup came with more wires than the original, so i put the black and red together and wired them to ground, and the others together and wired them to the circuit board. The old pup only had two wires. I was a bit surprised when i saw what i had to solder to, it was a bit tricky but i hope it will hold. Im sure its right but if anyone has any other thoughts lets hear them. I did email Carey on wed but not heard back form him.
hi Dave, the extra wires are so you can wire it in parrallel (standard) or series. my tech wired mine in series as i wanted the extra punch, which i got.(i've just been looking for the wiring instructions that came with the pup but can't find them anywhere--sorry) i've definately got very even volume accross all strings, maybee you'll notice it in a full band practice situation. if you're not happy with it i'll swap you for my BTB
mines being posted today so i might try and put it in at the weekend (still trying to sell the bass though). I find it a bit confusing that Nordstrand have copied the MM pup yet they have produced something that sounds different, and different enough to change the tone or volume of the G string. Here's hoping.
hi Dave, don't forget it's the early pre EB pickup they've copied & i've never heard anyone complain about the sound of the early 'rays,i think it's just the modern ones that can be a problem. as for your bass, i really would hang on to it if i were you as i think you'll really like it with the Nordy fitted.
What kind of sound does the Nord give you? I've heard the Seymour Duncan is pretty faithful to the original MM tone, I don't want to sacrifice that just to get more volume out the G string? I've got a 2006 30th Anni Ray which sounds immense apart from the faint G string...
sorry for the late reply mate. Nordstrand say they copied the exact specs of a pre EB pickup http://www.nordstrandpickups.com/bass-pickups/index.shtml sound wise i'm a very happy chappie, massive improvment over stock item with more punch & less zing. i can recomend it very highly, even my tech was impressed & he's a right morky git
Thanks. Im in the process of getting hold of a second hand one so hopefully it will do the trick. Im not even sure ill keep the Ray34 for long but if i do get rid of it ill hang on to the Nordy as i really want to stick with a MM.
good man. i'm shure you'll be well impressed with it,i almost sold my 'Ray before getting the Nordy fitted,am just glad i didn't.

personally i think it's gorgeous & am now gassing for one real badly.
-
it's just a sh*te pickup thing imho. i spent ages mucking about with strings & e.q. settings all to no avail. bung a Nordy in & you'll love it Dave

you'li be fine Mart,i felt the same as you when my long standing (17 years) blues band went tits up & i did bugger all for the best part of 2 years. then one day a drummer friend rang me to say he was forming a funk band & was i interested,as i'd never even listened to - never mind played any funk i was initially less than enthusiastic but went along for a jam anyway. turns out i'm now in the best band i've ever been in & really enjoying the challenge of learning a totally different style of playing--it's mega.
hey artisan i now own that bass and it still looks awesome.plays well too.it always attracts attention if you type in goldfender in the bass for sale section there should be a few pics of it
nice one,i wondered where abouts it was these days. it is a very nice P & tbh i sometimes wish i'd kept it.

I did the exact thing a couple of years ago using a Gotoh 201 bridge & some Gototh tuners, quality on both was excellent & fair price too, bought from W.D. music.

Mart you were right,i was suffering from a bout of sheer stupidity. i've just strung it back up with rounds & been funking out,man this is the first time i've heard it with the Nordy & round wounds, its AWESOME,it's really come alive again,i love it. thank f*** i never sold it. thanks for the interest folks but i'm going to keep this (for now any rate) cheers.

i suppose it depends on the bass in question,i was playing mainly a US 62 reissue jazz with a neck made out of blu-tak which was horrible for neck stability.

my old blues band used to tune to E flat (the guitarist was convinced he was SRV). i was playing Fender Jazz's at the time & they only required minor adjustments, slacken the truss rod a tad (1/4 turn maybee not much) & a slightly highter action to make up for the lower string tension. a bit of a pain in the arse but no major problem.

i owned a lovely SB900 when i was a wee pup, then traded it for some tat or other, what a tit,i wish i still had it.
-
I've also never noticed any dead spots on any of the 'rays i've owned or played.

not too shure about selling this bass, but i'm swinging that way,as i recently bought an Ibanez BTB770 to use as a backup bass but as it turns out i prefer the Iby & it seems to suit my band better too. mint condition,as all of my gear is ,mind i only bought it in November so it should be,4 string - rosewood fretboard - finished in a lovely honeyburst with a white scratchplate complete with it's origional hard shell case. i've had a Nordstrand 4.2 pickup fitted (no longer have the crappy original one i'm afraid) which sounds wonderful,no whispering G-string here setup is spot on with the lowest action of any bass i've ever owned, strung with EB group 2 flats + i have a brand new un opened set of EB slinky round wounds you can have too. not too shure about shipping this as i don't have a box big enough for it so i would prefer a meet up if possible. as for a price i would like £850.00 for this beauty. as for trades the only thing i would be interested in would be something very similar to my BTB i.e. thorugh neck-active-35" scale, unless i decide to keep it after all. cheers. DID I REALLY SPOUT ALL THAT BOLLOCKS ABOVE,WHAT A KNOB HEAD
