1.
And here's the pics: Thanks for the reassuring feedback guys. Found a couple of unexpected benefits of ownership: shorter than normal case fits across the boot of my car; the bass is stable when you stand it up on the floor thanks to beefy twin strap buttons. All good then!
Very nice indeed, congratulations on the find
2. The active ones had very powerful pickups, very light and easy to play. A lot of bass for the money. Was rated in a BC poll a few years ago as one of the 'must play' basses I owned one from new and sold it to get my first USA P bass. If another one came along at the right time in good condition I'd get it without a doubt.
3. Every bass or guitar I played from the 70's until the last few years had a glossy neck. The only problems I ever found with stickiness was due to the neck needing cleaning Gloss is fine with me, in fact anything else seems to need more finishing
4. Thought I'd ask this one, as one of my passive speaker cabs won't accept a 1/4" jack, neither will my Eden i-amp 800 at it's neutrik outputs Both the plugs I mention above don't have the 'T' appearance of Hazbeen's picture - they have a complete ring around the centre hole. Not sure if this an indicator of something ?
5. Bought a strap from Gareth at a very good price indeed. Very happy all round, excellent from start to finish. you can deal with Gareth with confidence
6. Are there any visible indicators as to which type will work with a jack plug ?
7. So, the guitarist in the band is adamant he can use a jack plug in a neutrik socket, but I'm quite dubious TBH. I've attempted to fit a jack plug in the centre hole, but is seems to be a very tight fit, most unlike a usual jack socket. I honestly don't know if the centre hole of a neutrik socket has ring and tip connectors Will it work in any shape or fashion ? Cheers BC
8. If you're seriously interested in maintaining guitars, try Dan Erlewine's book 'Guitar player repair guide'
9. Damn, I'd love to try that
10. Surely it would noticeable pretty quickly when played If the windings become detached from the core ?
11. Thanks BC I checked the wattage of the iron I used earlier and found it to be 25 watts. I changed it for a 40 watt iron and this helped a great deal, especially after leaving the iron to heat up for at least 15 mins before using it. Now the tone pot isn't working
12. Hi BC I'm in the process of upgrading the electrics on my road worn P bass with a kit from Charles guitars - RS superpot + paper / oil capacitor + CTS tone pot. When I applied solder to the back of the volume pot this morning (for the earthing connections), it became a matt silver slab, instead of the nice shiny silver block that denotes a nice solder joint. The original Fender solder joints on the back of the pots are nice silver solder blobs, so it can be achieved I made sure the soldering iron heated up a fair bit before starting the job, but still it didn't do the job properly. Maybe I need a hotter iron ? The other concerns are transmission of all that heat to; - the pot itself. Will it damage the pot ? - the capacitor. I'm considering using a small free standing vice as a heatsink. It has a small crocodile clip which I intend to attach to the capacitor leg. When it comes to attaching the capacitor to the back of the pot, I intend to solder a small piece of wire to the back of the pot first, let that cool, then solder the other end of the wire to the capacitor leg, thus hopefully avoiding transmission of too much heat associated with the process of soldering the back of the pot Any ideas folks ? Thanks BC
13. That is particularly pretty GLWTS
14. I've heard Pearly Gates pickups are supposed to be particularly nice with Les Pauls
15. Shorter screws shouldn't be that hard to find, I bought some for a Tele I was working on. A fairly cheap solution to the problem and certainly a lot quicker than shimming a neck Try Allparts or WD music to begin with ?
16.
Keep going as if it didn't happen, never look around and leave all post mortems until after the gig.
^This
17. I used to own more than a few Chess records, as you say chris, there at the start. Got to respect him for that RIP and thank you
18. I'd love to hear this. Good luck with the sale
19.
The one that does it for me is John Paul Jones and Ramble On. Bags of melody, groovy as you like and supports the song brilliantly. JPJ's playing encapsulates everything I love about bass in rock/pop music: groovy, funky, melodic, interesting and always adding to the song.
+1
20. At this moment, the bass line in 'Midnight Train to Georgia' by Gladys Night and the Pips. Not complicated at all, but soooo right for the song later on, well.....
21. Marinus and I traded basses, he also worked with me to make the deal possible. We spent a bit of time mailing back and forth on the deal and I found I can endorse what others have said here, first class from start to finish Credit to BC Thanks Marinus for a lovely bass
22. May their b*ll***s wither and drop off. Best wishes for this one BM
23. Fender Precision, with a lovely tort scratchplate 1972/3 era, much better than the Vox Clubman I played at the time (which I still own)
24.
It's a common problem.
