http://www.playawayguitars.com/play_away_guitars_shop.php?itemID=547 For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the Gentleman who owns this store, I used to be a rep selling to him, might be worth giving him a call, if what you are looking for exists he will know about it.
I get that, hence my question in the first place: since Warwick's lefty basses are usually in stock and ready to be shipped immediately from most retailers, that must mean the company manufactures enough of them regardless of the actual demand from the likes of you and me. There must be some redundancy built in the system, the cost of which appears to be borne by Warwick and not by us. On the other hand, I'm sure their lefty stock's ready availability and equal price has given them a big share of the left-handed market, and made the effort worthwhile.
It all comes down to planning when you build instruments. I think so many retailers hold them on stock lefty because they are one of the only available basses lefty in all options

Traveller guitars do a bass, quite a nice wee thing it is too.

One VERY stunning Dingwall...(shame I can't buy it!)

Looks like a jazz that. -
I guess that's fair enough, but I'm still wondering how Warwick are able to sell L/H models for exactly the same price as R/H ones. Well done to them, in any case.
Because despite what the powers that be tell you there really is no cost difference to make a lefty, the CNC routers can be told to do a lefty in seconds (you just mirror the existing CAD design.) The real reason behind lefties being less common and more money is supply and demand, not as many left handers = not as many basses made = you pay a premium.

I almost bought that black one, am eyeing something else though now!

Which one?

They are Pre 2010 models (the 2010 onwards have 2 piece bridges) and these are fine instruments.
Im interested in the Warwick Alien Korean but cant seem to find anyone who sells them, Thomann only do the really expensive one. The bass will be amplified so it needs to have a good plugged in sound but no real need for it to be loud acoustically. Still toying with an NS Design Wav or NXT as it would look great in a trio and I have always fancied an upright, new challenge and all that....
Sorry bit out of time, I will PM you!

Pickups - someone on here once said ......
throwoff replied to The Dark Lord's topic in Bass Guitars
Of course replacing the pickups to a P/J set from humbuckers will make it sound more like a P/J. If you really want to try it you need to put on Fender P/J pickups though as they are what Fender use. I do come down on the side of the fence that the vast majority of tone comes from the pickups and electronics and there is a lot of snake oil in wood choices, body shapes etc but there is something. -
A friend of mine was on cruises for 4/5 years albeit as a photographer as opposed to a musician but I spoke to him at length about his experiences. He worked with a mirriad of companies and has been to pretty much every continent doing it. The bottom line (according to him) is that pay is not great but of course you pay no rent, no bills (aside from a personal mobile or something) have no food outgoings (often no drink outgoings as on all inc. ships you get the same wristband guests get and on paid food/drink ones you buy drinks for pennys in the pound price as a perk.) The hours tend to be a tad long (probably not quite as bad for a musician) and generally you get poor crew cabins. He told me about one particular boat where he was in the cabin under the water line next to one of the bow thrusters which literally shook the cabin apart when it went off. Generally they are cramped, in louder areas of the ship and have no windows, although they are free! But you do - Travel the world, see incredible sights, make close friends, build real world contacts and of course work doing what you love. Fact is though from this he ended up working as a photographer for a major bass/guitar builder and doing very well for himself so it can be a great way to build experience and show a work ethic not found in a lot of people.

I think my CIJ is on a par with some MIA's. When I got it I had played two CIJ's and one MIA that day, the one I bought 57' reissue sounded and felt a world above the other two, but then I like a big fat neck so that probably has a lot to do with it! EDIT - Basically paraphrasing what has been said before, the right one feels right.

I have been wanting to try 3 things recently thanks to basschat! Firstly Fretless bass. Secondly a refin/build/mod job Thirdly a Singlecut bass. I know a few people on here have Wishbasses and I am talking to Steve at the moment about getting one built (for his prices even taking into account shipping and duty they look to be incredible bargains!) If any of the Wishbass faithful could chime in with their thoughts on the instruments, buying 'unseen' etc would be interested to hear. Also if anyone wants to talk me out of taking on 2 big jobs at once feel free!

I hate promoters who do that. My old Ska punk outfit were owed a gig once due to another night being pulled, so to make up for it we were put on mid bill on halloween night at a heavy metal night...

Hi my name is Tom and I am the bass player in the Post Hardcore/Punk Rock band DackvsEmpire. As we are taking ourselves too seriously no recordings or photos etc are being put up till everything is in place in the new year when we start gigging. (There are some AWFUL quality demos up on youtube recorded on a phone during rehearsals, if anyone actually wants to hear them PM me) Till then. You get this. This is going to be a highlight of 2012.

Ryan is a quality bass player and a top guy to have a drink with, somewhere I have a very blurry photo of him playing a cheap spanish guitar at my desk at Frankfurt one year when we both had top draw hangovers. I also have my lanyard signed by him with the immortal line - 'dont lose anymore hair - Ryan' One of those people that the more time you spend with him and hear about his music and where he wants to go with it and where he has been you just want to listen to his records.

I have previously with bands turned down the headline slot for a certain venue. Although this is going back a few. It was a good regular crowd down there for 6-8 bands doing 30 mins each and the crowd was teens to early twenties. Problem was as a headliner going on at 10.30 a lot of the younger ones had been picked up by parents or they were fed up with some dirge they had heard (this place literally let ANYONE play providing the band had a member under 18) We played it pretty much monthly and were building up a nice rep and doing well selling CD's and shirts (the gig was unpaid but you could flog stuff and we often came away much better paid than at any of the paying venues we played!) But whenever they offered us 'top spot' which became monthly due to our regular gig there and the fact we were getting the place moving we turned it down as we would rather play to the 250ish people there at 9 than the 90ish left by the end.

new pickups (and pre?) for my warwick ss1 4st- recomendations
throwoff replied to LukeFRC's topic in Bass Guitars
Barts are the obvious choice for a Warwick. Second to those in terms of custom options Warwick offer (read recommend!) are EMG and Duncans. It depends what sound you are after but personally on a stage I I would probably go for EMG's and put it into line with the original EMG equipped ones from the 80's.
