Any recommendations? I need my Ray and Wick set up (and will likely want a new pre installed in the Ray while I am at it)

I didnt think of swapping the Pre, that is a good idea.

Haha, I do not dare risk the big poppas wrath by asking about an aftermarket part on there.

I am gradually falling out of love with my Stingray. Dont get me wrong, the neck feels right, the shape feels good but I just cannot get a sound out of it that I want. I have played with every EQ setting on the bass, my Boss GEB7 and my amp but just cant get anthing like the tone I want and the tone I hear when I hear other people playing them on records (through racks of studio gear no doubt!) Bearing in mind I play my Corvette with everything flat and just find that it cuts through. My P had a similar problem in that the tone just was not punchy enough till I put a Duncan 1/4 pounder in and now it would be my go to bass (if not for the Warwick fitting just right in my current band) So my thoughts lead me to something that seems a bit controversial in Stingray circles, and that is changing the P/up for one of these - [url="http://www.thomann.de/gb/seymour_duncan_smb4ds.htm"]http://www.thomann.de/gb/seymour_duncan_smb4ds.htm[/url] I believe the pickup has a similar response to the 1/4 pounder tone I love but I would be interested to hear from anyone who has changed a Ray pickup (regardless as to what you replaced it with!)

My Corvette is without a doubt the bass I love most at the moment, it sits in my bands sound perfectly.

I have picked one up at Warwick HQ, it is insane, according to some staff there the only person who can actually play it is Hansford. I have had the pleasure to see him play it live and it is a very strange instrument but works very well.

Second hand prices vary, but you might be lucky enough to find one for sub £300. Check the for sale sections for amps and basses. Some lovely bargains show up.

I am 99% sure it is a Defil (or at least started as one) Polish company from the cold war. Never seen one like it before but the stripe through the neck and the machine heads are a match. There are sites devoted to them although not many, like most cold war stuff the quality ranges from mediocre to tat.

Good thinking, I was wondering about that! What are peoples opinions on the guides? Just put the bridge on and use the holes on that to guide?

Hey guys, I am seriously considering making my Jap P string Thru body. There is no chance this one will ever be sold and as for future value it already has an odd placed thumbrest and aftermarket pickup and bridge cover. I plan to buy a USA Fender Deluxe bridge which will fit and then either drill through myself or pay a luthier to do it. Has anyone done this themselves? Were there any unforseen issues?

No Saga I can recall, quite a simple transaction! I am considering Gold HW actually, possibly black but some bling would look great on the colour. As for sound, luckily I got a passive p/up/active electronic one. Don't get me wrong the fully actives are monsters but I find the passive p/ups give it a bit of a rounder sound, a little less spikey and of course when you pull the pot up you have a passive bass which is nice to have in a Wick sometimes.
