I do love new string day (I even like the clean down part )
Haha me too! Getting it all nice a shiney again feels good, especially for me, I sweat acid when I play and it feels good to get into the gaps!

Many of you have seen my Washburn XB120, my first bass, and as such bears the scars of a 'punk' youth. Well a few weeks back I took it out its bag where it spends it's days and decided I missed it more than I thought, and that I needed to find excuse to play it again, and then it hit me, the punkest fretless ever? I unfortuantely moved everything very quickly and only remembered to start taking photos after I have put the liquid wood into the fret slots and sanded the excess off. But here is the story. I pulled the frets with pliers but a combination of low quality fret wire and speed resulted in quite a few chips on the board, I initially thought to fill it with dark wood filler to hide it but realising I probably needed the lines (and looking at the state of the body!) decided I didnt care about the chips and would rather go with 'light wood'. I filled the holes and sanded it off resulting in this weary looking dry horrible mess of wood! I then spent a few hours lemon oiling the board and smoothing it out to bring the life back into it. Like so! Then I spent a week putting on layers of boat varnish, cutting back, revarnishing and sanding to get it smooth and slick. Then I went at it with screwdrivers, tightening all the screws back down and sorting a loose machine head, reconnected the tone control and the neck pickup threw on a set of flatwounds and I have this - And I am bloody proud of it, like I said a close look shows the light wood filler filling this chips the frets left but it has no effect on playability and most importantly the Washburn is now on pride of place on the stand and being played more than it has for years.

Just invested in a years supply of strings for my herd. Faltwound Fenders on the Washburn Fretless conversion Fender Stainless Steels on the MM and P. Wonderfull, I love picking whichever up and feeling brand new tension! Plus 6 more sets in the gig box, I actually feel prepared for once

I had a conversation recently regarding playing for free and how I am totally against it under any circumstance only to find myself shot down by my band who think 'its what you need to do to get into venues' I still wont do it. No way no how.

I have always wanted to do a mod covers band (to play the scooter shows and stuff as I have a contact in that social group) and call it Twist'n'Go which I think is an amazing name for such a venture. However I will probably never bother, if anyone wants it its up for grabs!
Be aware that when the battery goes in your Warwick bass, your stops working... regardless of passive mode! Not a lot of people realise that it's only the $$ + one or two others that are truly passive when battery dies. The way to check is to remove your battery and try to use it; you'll likely find that there is no output. This is due to the fact that your pups (with the exception of the $$ as indicated) have a preamp built in and as such need power to work. As for time that they last; ages! I tend to fit new batteries at Christmas (present to your bass) and even when I was gigging just one of my basses, a couple times a week (+rehearsals and home use), I still had plenty juice in the battery after a year (use the discarded batteries in your non-essential items like a tuner).
Leftyhooks vette (used to be mine!) has passive pups so should work without a battery.

I dont deny they are most likely great instruments, but for my hard earned cash I would go to a real custom builder, and to be honest buy british. They do look awesome though!

I am fairly sure there was some kind of upset either here or maybe Talkbass regarding the fact basically all this gentleman does is buy OEM parts and put them together, the nuts he hand cuts from blanks but other than that they are really just bitsa basses, granted good ones but nowhere near as solid as something you can get from a true bespoke builder (of course for a bit more money!) EDIT, the higher end models are 1200 dollars plus, then count into that shipping and import duty for something built out of a kit... Go see Mr Shuker, wait a bloody age but get something truly hand made for the same maybe even less money.

Never let anyone borrow anything from me, good being a lefty as It rarely comes up being asked to use the bass! Just wont share gear now though, too many horror stories, too many idiots out there.

It has a bypass if you pull the master volume knob (if memory serves!) The passive sound is actually really nice!

Hey Guys, Selling this on behalf of me dad who is upgrading to a USA. This is a 2004 model made in Mexico. The colour was known as Blue Agave, a nice slightly metallic looking light blue. In great condition, only one major ding of which a photo has been included below. It is on the side of the neck but does not affect the feel of the guitar to be honest. The billy bragg sticker can be removed, it is not on there to hide anything! Only other problem is a very common missing switch tip but we have one on order which will be put on it before it sells. Asking for £250 collected from Kent, will be willing to consider shipping at buyers expense. I decided after much thought to defret my beloved first bass to give it a new lease on life. I did however totally forget to document the whole thing for bc! I'm on the first varnish coat after applying two and cutting them back with sandpaper. Photos to come!

That thumb was made by Warwick in 2010, a rare thing, made of Solid Brazillian Rosewood, the light part on the top is sapwood (there just aint enough Brazillian Rosewood around now days to be picky!) it was modelled (neck size and shape etc) on his old ones from the 80's but with a modern body. They made 3, one for Jack, one for their showroom and one for an unnamed US buyer/collector who paid a price that would make your eyes water! Here is one of them (the collectors one I believe, he requested and paid more for no sapwood!) in the Warwick photo studio prior to shipping, managed to snap this photo quick before it got shipped out. And here is the Warwick newsletter talking about the 3, I believe this one is the middle of the three.
