Aha. I think I see what they are doing: At the present we have the fantastic gibson Les Paul. One of my favourite rock guitars. At the other end of the scale we have 'Guitar Hero'. a stupid plastic thing with a flipper and a couple of buttons. Could this 'robot' guitar be the first step towards bringing the two of them closer together? What's next, markers that light up chords in a certain key on the fretboard? All tongue in cheek stuff but makes you think, dunnit?

We've just invested in a pair of the iColour lights with the extra controller to get better control over them. 4 bulbs on each one. I can select 1 of 9 colours with the press of a single button. there's also control over the speed, mood of the lighting, it goes on. Really simple to operate. We used PAR cans for 12 years and looking back now, unless you have a case for them, they can be a bit temperamental with connections popping out and bulbs becoming disconnected from their connectors inside. They were home made jobbies but made well so that you could disconnect each light separately as they all had euro sockets on them.

Every gig. In fact I am so sh*t hot it causes women's knickers to fall off and grown men to cower in the corners. I jest of course. I get moments like that maybe once during a gig with no warning. Usually during a song that we play regularly and I've either got bored and try something new or the drummer goes off on one and I follow. Great moments. One of the reasons I love bass. I hope I don't stop getting them.

I teach using the Rockschool books, especially for people who want to learn to read. It covers a variety of styles. It seemed the best laid out and obvious choice for me when I began teaching. Each exercise has a corresponding track on the CD you get with it to show you how to do it. If you're doing it yourself you do have to be careful that you don't listen to the CD track often enough to end up simply copying it rather than reading the dots.

You're a bass player - don't do anything other than what you do now. Everyone knows drummers are noisy bar stewards and guitarists like to widdle intensly at every opportunity so make your mark by smiling politely and doing hee haw else.

Here's one - I would like to have a bass where the body is straight and the neck angles up 40 degrees. That would give me my ideal playing position as bass horizontal or bass up at an angle are compromises to me. Don't believe that this is possible unless some kind of midi device is used as you couldn't change the direction of the strings part of their way along without touching them which would result in the same sound being played regardless of where you put your left hand. I would also like to see a 5 string bass using a 4 string neck. I made one myself a few years ago using a Rick copy (it was dead when I got it). Extra machinehead hole drilled, EMG 35 pickup and Kahler adjustable bridge. Would be good to have one made properly. You get 'wide necks' so why not 'narrow necks'? I don't think that there will be as great a jump as what Leo did. From doghouse to electric was one of the best inventions in music alongside multi-track recording and others. There could be improvements such as some way to go digital like everything else has (recording, amps, etc) Unless there becomes an easier way to play it involving some kind of telepathic device then I can't see such a huge change. And anyway, where's the fun in something you don't actually touch to play?

I always used slinkies on my 30th anniversary stingray and it was through body stringing. In fact I used to use slinkies on everything.

Both basses are CIJ so quality if consistently good. I had a Geddy. Fantasic buld quality but I don't get along with jazzes soundwise so the only reason I sold mine i only ever buy CIJ
