1. I've been seeing a lot of Shuker basses in the build section. Whenever I hear something new, I like to find out about it. What can you tell me about these fine basses?
2. Man, no mention of Yes yet. Steve Howe & The Fish on such classics as: Siberian Khatru & Yours is no Disgrace. Zep - Dazed & Confused Clapton & Bruce on just about everything but especially SWLABR Possibly Clapton & Dunn on 'Forever Man'
3.
Just checked the Ebay details from the purchase - it's definitely the same bass. Small (bass)world, eh? Here's the proof....
If you're ever looking to sell it in the future then keep me in mind as I get the 6 string bug from time to time
4. That is one of the most beautiful basses I have ever seen You're not taking part exchange on limbs or non-essential organs are you?
5. Well worth trying as 6 string neck widths can vary. I had a fretless TRB6 II but the neck feld like an ironing board. The other end of the spectrum was an Ibanez SR1006. One of the older bolt on ones from Japan. Slimmest neck I have ever played on. Wish I still had it, I've never seen another one like it. My first 6 string was a Washburn cheapey that i got on Dolphin for £125. What a deal. Really nice as well but the Ibanez was such a good bass though.
6. A standard SR5 fretted would have gone for £850 in good condition in the past. Fretlesss generally go for a bit less due to not as much demand but would go for slightly higher due to having the piezo option so I think anywhere from £800 to £900 given the state of things just now. I'm sure i could find a store doing a brand new one for £1200 if I looked.
7. I think Jazzes had the blocks and binding officially from 1966 but there's always periods either side of dates where things have appeared and disappeared. They continued until 1980-1 when they went back to dots and no binding. they also got rid of the 3 bolt neck and bullet truss rod as well that started on these around 1975. I have a picture in a book of an original Precision bass with blocks and binding. I think that they did offer the Precision with a narrow neck option for a while just as MM did with the Stingray I enjoy writing single line statements.
8. I used to change my SR5 battery every year and put the old battery in my Korg pedal tuner. It would last another 2 years in there!
9. I think if you like Stingrays, you'll love this one. I've had about 7 but this one was the best. It had growl coming out of the wazoo due to the mahogany body on an already growly bass. Its been about a year since i sold mine but I'm pretty sure you could string it both ways, although i could be wrong. IMO the best finish of any Stingray. the deep translucent red was so beautiful with matching neck and headstock. Totally stunning. Also came with matching Musicman G&G hardcase that was almost as stunning as the bass. Sold it because I wanted to go back to passive basses and the whole reason my gold warmoth has a mahogany body. Definitely head over to the EB forum. There's so much information on there and links to external stuff with all the rare and limited edition basses as well.
10. Several people interested so far but no takers as yet. This really is a very simple project to complete. There are plenty of websites that offer advice on how to refinish guitars and I can help you as you do it as well. I have painted quite a few basses in my time with nothing more than Halfords spray cans to great effect. I can also help you out finding replacement parts, whether period or new. Hell, even if you make a complete arse of it you could sell the parts off separately on Ebay and probably make make back a lot more than you paid for it. Any questions, fire them my way.
11. Prices for both items reduced - prices now include postage to mainland UK
12. The SM58 has now be sold to Budget Bassist and will be winging its way to him at the weekend. Everything else still available and remember that you will get a discount on shipping if you buy more than one item.
13. + for slinkies. they are fantastic strings. I used them on just about everything including Stingrays, Rickenbackers and both my '51 reissue precisions. Nice and smooth feeling and very punchy. My current choice, and has been for the last year, are Optima strings. not too bad on the fingers, last a long time(my last set were on for 8 months) I use the gold ones on my Gold Warmoth and the Chrome ones on my newest one. I actually think i prefer the chrome ones now. They are more expensive but if you contact A Strings http://www.astrings.co.uk/ they are the UK distributor and managed to sort me out with my first set at a reduced price. I haven't bought any more from them yet as they do last for ages. The chrome ones are also cheaper than the gold ones for obvious reasons.
14. Just to say I've fired more bits and bobs in the bits and bobs sub forum. EB Power Slinkies, D'Addario 12 string bass strings, brand new Sure SM58 I might have more in the coming days.
15. One of my old bands did this recently We hadn't even seen each other, never mind played, for the best part of 12 years. All good fun though. got together to do some entertainment ( and indeed it was ) for one of the cancer research Race for Life events
16. I have more stuff to sell off now: First up is a set of D'addario strings for 12 string bass. They took so long to arrive that i had sold both of my 12 strings before I received them! Normally around £30 + postage, these can be yours for £20 including postage to mainland UK - This is who makes the strings for Hamer Next is a virtually unused Behringer mini mixer. I bought this when i was tinkering with 12 string basses and was intending taking the feed from my bass & guitar amps and mixing them from this into the main desk but I never stuck with the 12 string long enough to do it. Comes in its original box with mains supply. Normally around £45 + postage, this can be yours for £25 including postage to mainland UK I also have another thread in this section with SD active PJ pickups. I also have a Tapco (Mackie) Squeez rack mount compressor for sale in the effects section
17. Quick pic of the SD Active pickups, still in their original box and totally unused - now priced at £70 + £5 postage to mainland UK Postage for everything listed will be £5

21. You'd be hard pushed to change the pickguard on the 20th Stingray - Its glued on! I used to have a 20th & 30th
