1. It's one of my favourites and it's a close thing but...............my vote goes to Jamerson. I think JPJ would probably agree
2.
You are an utter legend! That would be massively appreciated!
As far as I am aware, the grounding strips on the MIA 62 reissue Jazzes, are merely there for cosmetic reasons and are removeable. They are grounded, as todays Jazz basses are, via the wire that goes from the control cavity to under the bridge. I notice your Warmoth body has been routed for this grounding wire so if you don't wish to go the whole hog, with the brass plates under the pickups soldered to the old style brass grounding strip, you don't need to. Of course you can still get the strip, for the athentic look just like the MIA reissues. The Japanese 62 reissues stick with the older style of grounding. They all have the brass strip and plates in the pickup cavities which are actually connected and ground the bass. I have one and It can be a bit inconvenient if you're trying to fit a larger than stock pickup (as I have found out) as it then protrudes higher above the body than ideal because of the brass plate in the cavity.
3. I've had both types of necks and although the MM neck is very good quality (and the headstock access to the trussrod is very convenient, although not historically accurate) the allparts is better. The only downside of the allparts neck was that it was a bit chunkier than the MM version (and 3 times the price). Alternatively, if you went for a warmoth neck you could specify the exact neck profile you wanted (but of course that's even more expensive).
4.
Use it to put out the flaming torch? I have days when I can pick a fight in an empty room - must be menopausal or something - the internet is a bad place for me to be when that happens!
Actually Paul, thanks for the heads up! Although I don't think it should be a rule, it is a very good idea to check the wanted forum before you put a sale up. Today I have done exactly that and sent messages to two people who were actively looking for the item I was intending to sell. On Monday, if they haven't been in touch I'll put it up in the for sale forum. It's especially useful when the gear that is being sold is something that doesn't come up very often and is in demand.
5.
John East does a retro in a pedal which would resolve the problem. Not sure that pedal gets as much love as it should. However not as good a solution when someone already has it in internal pre form.
Oooooh that may be the solution.
6. I put it on my Frankenfender with a set of 1994 Squier pickups. It sounds so good that I've been through 3 sets of pickups to try to make my other Jazz sound halfway decent in comparison. I've been through a set of dimarzios model Js, a set of wizard 64s and an old set of mex pickups. Put it on the one that plays best because It really doesn't matter which bass you put it on it will make it sound great but it will also make all your other Jazzes sound rotten.
7.
Just to report...having a great time here. Atmosphere is lovely and everyone friendly. Looking forward to seeing gjones band tomorrow night. Will be bringing a couple of mates. Havent had time to hook up with krispn yet as in addition to the friends I am here with i have also bumped into some luvvie mates from Brum and it has all gone a bit manic. Am in my own today tho. Just felt like going off and doing my own thang.
Just to say it's best to get there early because the early birds get the comfy seats and it's usually packed out.
8. I saw a black Stingray with maple neck go for just over £500 on ebay yesterday.
9.
Cheers for all the help, I'm not sure of the the suggest sites you have linked me to have what I'm looking for.. I don't think fender have ever made a fiesta red jazz with a maple neck/board with pearl binding and block inlays - Some one correct me if I'm wrong (probably am)
Eh, probably not. Good luck on your search.
10. My band, the Dana Dixon Band, playing British Stage at Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival Colne on Sat 25th Aug 8 - 9pm. Come say hello if you're going to be there.
11.
You reckon? Never head of Ishibashi. looks scary haha. I don't think anything I've been looking at are jap fenders?
Ishibashi have english speakers you can communicate with via email and their customer service is, I've heard, very good. So it's not as scary as it may seem. Search for ishibashi on this forum and hear some stories of people who have dealt with them.
12. Buying bits of basses from Stratosphere or warmoth can be very expensive and although you'll get your ideal bass you'll never get that money back if you ever decide to sell. As far as Japanese basses are concerned..... This guy imports them for you http://www.guitar-emporium.co.uk/Fender_Japan_JB.html And this guy too http://www.mijfenders.com/ I have a friend who bought a tele from this seller and he has a lot of guitars in stock which he doesn't have on his website. Worthwhile calling him and seeing if he can supply you with what you want.
13. You may as well just advertise for the bass you want on here because once you've bought the body (remember customs charges when parts come through heathrow from the states) and neck it's going to cost you over £1,000. If you've got a grand to spend I'm sure somebody on basschat could oblige you by selling you their bass. Or alternatively you could buy what you want new or secondhand from Ishibashi in Japan who sell Japanese Fenders. I don't think you can buy Jap Fenders new straight from Japan because of the agreement Fender has with the factories out there but you can buy them secondhand http://translate.goo...2F04-05%2F3%2F1
14. Ha, ha, it's a small world. My nieces band HONEYBLOOD are doing this gig. Newly signed to Fatcat records. Check em out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKGsP-4BLEI And if you think this songs about you..........it probably is.
15. Brand new, never gigged, wizard 64 Jazz bass pickups for sale £45 posted.
16.
Thanks for the support guys! Already hit my 1st stumbling block......d'oh! I went ahead and ordered a parchment scratchplate for it (was only a tenner), however, being the fool that i am I didn't realise that the standard jazz scratchplates don't quite 'snug up' to the stack knob control plate!.....balls.....trying to decide whether this is something I can live with or not.....I have just found what calls itself a 62 reissue mint green scratchplate, but it's $47 from the states (plus import/VAT etc)....Also I'm not sure whether mint green works.....
Having changed a lot of scratchplates in my time I realised that they are not all identical and sometimes there can be a gap between control plate and the edge of the scratchplate. The easiest way to sort this out is just to fit the scratchplate and then loosen the control plate and move it until it sits snug where you want it. In extreme cases you may have to drill new holes for the control plate but usually that's not necessary. A stack knob control plate, I assume, is the same size and shape as a normal plate - It just has 2 holes instead of 3. This company, in Amsterdam, sell some great quality scratchplates at great prices. I've bought 2 and both were perfect fits. 17. Mmmmm pretty, pretty. I've always liked sonic blue Jazzers since I saw JPJ playing one with Lenny Kravitz. May I ask where are you planning on getting the neck? I know stratosphere sell RI necks etc on ebay (I bought a Mex Classic sixties Jazz neck a while ago from them plus other various bits and pieces). In fact you could get everything you need to build your own reissue from Stratosphere, as they just take gear apart and sell them on bit by bit. Good luck. and here's the vid of JPJ playing his (probably original) sonic blue Jazz......bum notes and all.
18.
Funnily enough, there are any number of people on BC who will say that an Ibanez RS-900 can deliver the Precision sound better than many actual Precisions. So that's half your question answered!
+1 One of the best bass sounds I ever heard. It does Precision better than a very good Precision.
19. I like pizza..... And bass guitars.
20. Ha, Ha SHAPES! And all this time I thought I was a just a musical illiterate, making all this stuff up on the fly through trial and error. Thanks for that. I'll have to check out your lesson on major chord triangles.
21. I love my J -Retro and the sweepable mid is the best thing about it. I like to turn it all the way to the right (as you look down on it - turn to the right for low mid and the left for hi mid) and use the top knob to dial in as much mid as I need. It really does give a punch and presence while playing with a band. I sometimes wonder how I ever managed without it.
22.
Both the Geddy Lee and Marcus Miller IV are now Mexican (014xxxx numbers).
Nobody's told Fender Japan then, because they're still making the Marcus Millers http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/jb77-mm.html
23. I chopped and changed strings, of different gauges, for years before I knew what a truss rod was. You'll probably find the lighter strings sit a little closer to the frets because they sit lower in the nut but it's unlikely you'll need to adjust the truss rod if they still feel comfortable to play and they're not rattling off the frets. But if you do this will help http://basschat.co.uk/topic/138152-how-to-give-your-bass-the-best-set-up/
