    No is the answer to your question. But when I hear that something is out of tune I always assume it's me - even though I know that it's much more likely to be the guitar or vocals. I must be paranoid. Although I've gone through half a song playing in the wrong key giving dirty looks to everybody else until I realise it's me that's got it wrong.

    You don't need theory to be a 'good' bass player. What you do need though is a love of music. Once you've picked the style of music you want to play, analyse it and listen to what the bass lines of your favourite players are doing. Play along to the tracks and don't just play the basslines already recorded, make up your own. Listen to a song and hum what you think an altenative bassline should be before you even touch the fretboard - then play it. All of these will make you a better player. Learning theory on it's own won't.

    I had it and it took about 3 months to clear up. It primarily affects people over 35 who attempt unaccustomed exercise and end up overdoing it and tearing the fibres in the tendon that attaches the forearm muscle to the elbow (guilty as charged you honor). Luckily where the fibre was torn didn't affect my ability to play bass. If it is affecting your playing I recommend adjusting the position of your bass until it (hopefully) doesn't cause discomfort any longer.

    An Allparts blocked neck cost about £380 new. For that you get the rest of the bass as well and a case. You'd have to provide the correct neckplate screws yourself of course. When you think about it it's a pretty good deal but I doubt he's get more than £380 because people don't like bitsa basses.

    Squier VM customer telecasters, which have two P90s in place of the usual single coils, sound great with an average secondhand price of about £140. I know some very good guitarists who own one.     I like it, it's quirky (can't really hear the bass as it's not very high in the mix). I like the singing though and, other than the splash being a bit too loud, the drums have been recorded well.

    Is this your first bass? If it is you're best to buy secondhand and put the money you save towards a decent amp. A good bass will sound crap through a underpowered amp with farty speakers (I know because I've owned a few rotten amps).

    I used to have super low action on my old Geddy Lee which would play great at home but sometimes, if the room I was playing in was was warm, the neck would move slightly and some notes would end up choking. After playing some other bassists instruments, I realised that it isn't a crime to like a higher action and it does give you a clearer sound without fret rattle. 5 mm is a little high for comfort though and I recommend a little tweak of the truss rod to get the neck a little straighter and allow you to get your strings a bit lower by a mm or two.

    I got a neck from this seller. The good points were that it was slim, and straight. The bad points were that the nut had not been filed (which means you'd have to do it yourself or get a new one fitted) and the fretboard on the E string side had been over sanded between the 1st and second fret so it looked a bit lopsided. I've never had it on a bass because of the nut but suspect it would play all right if you sorted that out. Better message him first to make sure the nut is ok before you buy.

    Watch out. Sitting down can mean your wrist is in that nasty curled position. Which can cause all sorts of problems. I have carpal tunnel (which you don't want to get) and I recommend standing up when you're playing so that your wrist is as straight as possible.

    My MM SUB sounded great through everything. Whether it was my little Ashdown EB 150, my Fender TV15, Hartke Lh500 or even the crappy bass rig at whistlebinkies (whatever it was that night). So there must be something going on for your Markbass combo to sound so naff. The only amp that I disliked instantly was the TC electronic classic 450 I had for a short while. Other people love them I didn't. It may be a case of mutual incompatability with your Markbass and it's time to get yourself another amp.

    Sometimes it due to lack of monitors and sometimes it's due to lack of ability. If the singer can hear themselves and they still sing out of tune then it's lack of ability and there's not much you can do. Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran couldn't sing to save his life and it didn't stop him.

    I recently got my compact which I'm pairing with Ashdowns latest micro amp the MiBass. The MiBass has a very warm sound and was great through my Ashdown 1x15 neo cab but even better with the compact. I've never had a punchier sound and both my Jazzes sound fantastic through this combination. The MiBass has a very cunning semi parametric EQ. You pick the frequency with the knob and cut or boost that frequency with the slider. It's very simple and instinctive and makes getting the tone you want very easy. It uses the same power amp as all the other micro amps (Bang and Olufsen I believe). If you get the chance to try the MiBass it at your local music shop I really recommend it.
