The same Warwick being advertised twice?
Probably a silly question, but if Squier is made to Fender spec, would a Squier neck be better than say, a Warmoth neck? You can get a complete squier jazz for a little more tha £100 on eBay or spend double that on a Warmoth from the factory. Thanks guys
Warmoth and Allparts necks are lovely quality but you can get a mighty mite neck for £99 on ebay. If money is no object you can pay £400 or more for a Warmoth (with tax and postage) and get a beautiful looking neck. But myself and many others have bought a MM neck and it's excellent value for the cash. This guy on ebay imports and sells Mighty Mite necks (with fender decals) contact him and he'll tell you when his next shipment is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-Precision-Bass-Korea-93-/330855273195?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4d0882d2eb
Hi, With one 8ohm Mi12 cab, your 550 is only putting out half-ish power right? I spoke to Ashdown, and they've recommended 2 x Mi12 cabs to get the full power of the 550. I recently got the MiBass 220 and one Mi10 (4 ohm) cab, which is delivering the full power of the 220. while loving the tone, specs, and build of the unit, have found the volume a bit lacking, even for practice with a drummer, keys, and two guitarists, so I'm returning both, and thinking of upgrading to your set-up. Would you say your set up with one Mi12 is more than enough in the grunt department for the kind of gigs you've just done? Or is everything maxed out? Would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this given your recent experience.
Ask Doddy, who has also commented on this topic. He's been using the MiBass550 and Mi12 for some time now. He seems pretty chuffed with the setup.

What a silly idea. Sounds fun. Personally I think it should be a lands end to John O' Groats kind of thing. Starting off as far South as possible, maybe Jersey, and ending up in the Shetlands. I'm sure we have a basschatter in The Shetlands, do we have one in Jersey?
Bump...... Trade for a compressor or overdrive or chorus pedal.
Hmmmmm.....I don't have any of those other pedals but I do have a Boss GEB-7 graphic equaliser. It's very good for tweaking your sound live or recorded and using as a pre-amp (many DB players use it). http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetails.php?ProductId=153

I have a lot of empathy for you. I had carpal tunnel problems with both hands until the 20th Dec when I had an operation on my left hand (which was the worst affected). The operation was a complete success and I'm back to playing without numbness, pain or tingling in my left fretting hand. My right hand was never as bad as my left but I hope for an operation on that soon too. I recommend you ask your GP to refer you for further investigation into exactly what the mechanics of the problem is with your hand - via a CAT scan or similar. You never know? If the problem can be identified (a badly healed bone perhaps) an operation may be the solution.

I bide my time like a tiger at a waterhole. I just sit and wait patiently until I see a small child pick up a bass and plug it in, THEN I LEAP INTO ACTION playing Level 42 songs at incredible volume until I intimidate them so much they drop the bass and run from the shop in tears with their mothers in tow.

Your Musical Development since joining Basschat?
gjones replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Basschat has most definitely enhanced my bass playing and interest in all things bass. I've learned a lot about gear as well. -
Great feedback - much appreciated & very interesting. Do you have any idea of the value of my bass?
Seventies basses have gone for around £1500 and sometimes more on this forum. It depends on how well looked after they are and how original.

It'll just be a standard saddle you need. It may be easier buying a whole new bridge. The left handed Fenders, made in that era didn't have Jazz Bass or Precision on the headstocks of left handed basses - I assume because Fender didn't want to go to the bother of ordering left handed decals for a relatively small number of basses built. One of these should do the job http://www.ebay.co.u...der+bass+bridge

Fender Jazz vs Squier Jazz - what's the difference
gjones replied to KingMacca's topic in Bass Guitars
I've owned a standard Squier Jazz made in Indonesia in 2001, a Japanese Squier Jazz bass made in 1994, A Geddy Lee Fender Jazz Bass made in Japan in 2004, and a 62 reissue Fender Jazz bass also made in Japan in 1996. Both the Squiers were the equal of the Fenders in feel and sound. And there wasn't much between them when you compared quality of construction. These days most Squiers and Fenders are made with computerised lathes, so you can make them anywhere in the world you can transport your machinery. The biggest difference is price and that is down to labour costs - you can pay a worker in Indonesia or China a lot less than you would in Japan or the States. -
I understand that they probably are a good bit better, however at the start of that clip they sounded muffled. But at the money they are asking I would prefer to get a secondhand really really good cab like vanderkley or bergantino. My overall preference would be a super12 but it is way out of my price range at the moment. Would either of the cabs sound muffled?
If you look at the graphic on the amp he's set it with a low peak and a mid peak. The high end has been rolled off, which is probably why it sounds muffled. Hartkes usually have plenty of high end.

The Hartke Hydrive 112 is also one to consider. It has variable impedence as well - 8 ohm and 4 ohm. It gets good reviews. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha2bh_OZl0I
Hi, New on here! Unlike many of my contemporaries my mid life crisis has has lead me down the road of playing Bass rather than purchasing a ludicrously quick motorbike, or Fanny magnet 2 seater sports car (Which i would only wrap around a tree anyway!) Having played in my late teens and early twenties i have re-connected with my old bass playing self after a break of 20 years, and hooked up with fellow musicians with a similar outlook and tastes. We play mainly Rock, Guns n Roses, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC etc etc. We throw in some newer stuff aswell, Killers, Kings of Leon etc. As the band is going quite well i feel that i need a new bass rig that will compliment our style and offer me more of a pro sound. I currently play a Rick 4003 (My main bass) and a Fender (USA Built) precision through a "Laney G300" Head coupled with a matching 2 x 10 Cab sitting on top of a 1 x 15 cab. The rig is an ebay special and i reckon is 18 years old. It is in great condition for its age and their is absolutely nothing wrong with it; however i am in the market to take my sound up a notch and have been contemplating the following: Ampeg SVT 450H and 6x 10 Ashdown abm 500 and 6x10 TC electronic RH450 and matching 4 x 10 Has anyone on here any experience of the above three? all the best Chuggs
Welcome. Speaking from experience Ampeg are good for the rockier side of things. Their valve amps and SVT classic 410 cabs are fantastic. TC Electronic are very loud (personally I could never get the sound I wanted with mine) but make sure you go for the higher range cabinet the RS 410 as the cheaper BC range seems to have difficulty dealing with lots of watts. I do like Ashdown as they provide me with the sound I hear in my head. Very loud and easy to dial in a full, bluesy, rocky tone. I've had 3 of their amps (including the ABM 500),so you could say I'm a bit of a fan.

Is no band better than just any old band?
gjones replied to 4-string-thing's topic in General Discussion
Not really sure who, other than the folks in a retirement home, would want to listen to those songs. I would pass on that.
Retirement home gigs are an expanding market! -
There's a bit of a debate about breaking speakers in on basschat. Some speakers, it seems, need time to loosen up when they are brand new. They may seem a bit light on the bass end for the first few gigs and you may have to add more bottom end than you may have done in the past with your previous setup. As they loosen up, over time, they tend to get bassier. You don't have to hold back as the louder and longer you play through them the better.
-
That sound reminds me of my old P/J bass. A bass with a P and J pickup is great for a fat sound but with the ability to blend a little J pickup to give a bit more attack than your average P bass.
Ummmmmmm. THey are MUCH cheaper than the Am std series. To my mind that's a good thing going for it.
But why are they so much cheaper I wonder where the savings been made? Are they just Mexican parts assembled in The US? If that's the case why not call them Mexican specials? There's some very good guitars being made in Mexico: Roadworns, Geddy Lees, Marcus Millers, Classic 60 and 70s. I had a classic player strat made in Mexico with US custom shop parts which was better made than an American standard. This smacks of marketing.BUT being a Fender fan I hope they sell a few. Fenders share offer fell flat last year and their last published profit was just over a million dollars which is not much for such a iconic worldwide company. Below is a report about Fender going through hard times From the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/30/business/fender-aims-to-stay-plugged-in-amid-changing-music-trends.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

When you're buying secondhand, how do you know whether the MIA bass you're buying is an American Special or an American Standard? Looking at the specs the only visible difference would be the bridge and the tuners. At least the HW 1 had a specific selling point with the nitro finish and the posiflex. Other than they are 'assembled in the good old USA' this model doesn't have much going for it really.
