1. Sorry to hear you are having to move on. Brilliant set up. Best of luck.
2. got the link wrong in the first post. This is my current front runner USB2 interface http://www.thomann.de/gb/esi_esu_1808.htm Liking the look of the Saffire Pro40 but having to sort Firewire is an issue budget wise.
3.
I'd recommend the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. That's what I use.
thanks. I dont have firewire but could sort that. Classic GAS moment as I am now looking at a new laptop and a £400 audio interface. I started off looking at spending £150.
4. Hi, need a decent multi I/O audio interface. Boiled it down through reviews etc to the following two: http://http://www.thomann.de/gb/esi_esu_1808.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/maudio_fast_track_ultra.htm anyone actually own and use either of these? Particular value for me is in live use with multiple outs for mix etc. This suggests rackmount but the MAudio does look good too.
5. what a generous and constructive response! This bass is not my thing but i think a Dingwall P is likely to be more interesting than a lot of the rest of the P-clones out there, for some of the reasons given. Let the market decide.
6.
Sorry to say, but they dont do the job in the least. These grip master gadgets, while they may have their uses elsewhere, for playing bass, they are a waste of time and money IMO. Why ? Because they develop the hand to do the opposite of what is required to fret a string. Minimal strength is required to fret a string. This strength is in all healthy people from an early age. Dexterity and stamina is what is needed. To do this, the tendons that open the hand, i.e. lift them from one note to the next, without them getting in one an other's way, is what needs to be worked on. By gripping, you are developing muscles or tendons that are not required.
i have always wondered about this - in the same way too much muscle definition can hinder not aid in certain sports where flexibility and agility are important, I have always been taught lightness of touch etc., when playing piano, fretting a bass, and thought that working too much with some of these exercises could be counter-productive. That's not to say there aren't better non-musical exercises, so not really agreeing with Hubbard, just wondering whether people need to be a bit clearer what they are trying to do.
7. wow - that's an expensive board right there. Bet it sounds great though. nice one.
8. nice - I like how so many are gravitating toward a dubstep set up. Shows that we all love an instrument that remains relevant and evolving. I have a wired hot hand not a wireless, that will be next.
9. that is an immense pedal right there. I've got the big brother so probably not going to bite but I wouldn't worry you'll have this sold tonight or tomorrow. It's the king of bass choruses.
10. I am a compact and midget t man and am absolutely happy with that set up with a Tecamp Puma 500. The modular approach is great with both together being near perfect. So buy with confidence and good luck tomorrow.
11.
It depends on what you want to do. I'd have a look at the Soundblox BEF Pro with the Hothand for doing wah & dubstep, or if you're wanting something for those texture things (and dubstep, techno or DnB) have a look at the Moog MF-101 (there's one for sale on here with an EP2). If you want to hear the Moog, have a listen to some of my stuff here or here. The pedals you've mentioned all appear to be very good too.
I have a Source Audio BEF pro and while if you were being really critical you might say it lacks a bit of the "wetness" that many like in a filter, if that's even true, to my mind it makes up for it with range of sounds and control. If you add hot hand into the mix, it's a stunning musical tool, way more versatile than the other filters I have used.
12. x-blender is a great pedal. with eq, boost and phase invert you can really ensure that whatever pedal you have in the loop its tone sucking potential is managed. Good luck.
13. I use iMaschine feeding into Machine Mikro iMaschine's a bit limited but it's a useful wee sketchpad.
14.
I've just bought an old 2007 DHA VT1. I was using it with 9v, I ordered a 12v adaptor... holy crap! Amazing difference and the tube glows now! This pedal, combined with my EQ gets me about 95% of the tones I need for my band. It's beautiful! Everything I had hoped it would be... gurgly(??!!), fat, warm and infinately tweakable. Sounds good with all my passive Jazz's. Would LOVE the EQ version. May go on santa's list.
Dave's work is deserving of all the praise it can get. I loved my VT2 and only sold it because it was too big. I miss it every time I play.
15.
Analogman with the Deep Mod. No better bass chorus out there. Usually come up for about ~£130. I've had 3 of them, because every time I sell one thinking I don't need a Chorus, I just HAVE to buy another one!
Yes I have an analogman with deep mod. It's a big step up from my ce2b. I also liked the sound of the tech 21 boost bass, which is newer than the analogman and not seen any 2nd hand yet.
16. John's website makes clear that on the j retro there's a 12db mid boost/cut available on a variable frequency ranged between 150hz and 3khz. http://www.east-uk.com/ I have the slightly tweaked Marcus retro which has slightly altered frequency parameters, though not on mids (I think?). It's a massively powerful tool - you can really hit the sweet spot on the mids and I find myself learning more and more about sound options of my Jazz and making use of what for some is maybe too much control?
17. appreciate that boss, in terms of effects it's like Michael Schumacher complimenting someone on their ford focus!! The analogman is the business. Only pedal chorus that comes close IMHO is the new tech 21 boost chorus which sounds immense and has blend (which I would have got but this was £70 cheaper).
18. transition board - down sized, a bit more back to basics. Not settled on order yet. An SFX micro red dragon and a loopmaster patcher to come, and then i need to George L the lot and sort power (need another brick).
19.
If you haven't yet heard the combination of a Compact with a Midget, be prepared to be amazed. Astonishingly good rig which you can carry across the car park in a single, easy lift - one in each hand.
+1 i am totally happy with my compact and midget t rig - astonishingly light but powerful.
20.
Withdrawn, as I need to pull my finger out and just learn how to use it properly. Apologies.
I did the same putting my BEF pro up for sale and withdrawing immediately. glad I did. Well worth it!
21. sold it!!! not cause it wasn't fantastic - it was - but it was just way out of my league. I took it to two rehearsals and basically we were never going to be able to integrate it into our sound. Too valuable for bedroom use only so sold it on to a deserving basschatter to subside an SFX red dragon and an OC-2!! Just to say that it is one of the most musical pedals I have ever tried - glitchy, cool, massive range of sonic possibility, awkward in the best sense of forcing you to understand sound etc., otherwise it's like "fcuk!! white noise!" Looks beautiful as well. Monster monster pedal.
22. great stuff Shep - really practical helpful advice. I am building up my understanding and my Board! slowly and am pleased that I understood the basics on most of what you say but you've taken it the the next level for me. cheers Rich
23.
I've spent a lot of time and money getting the signal path as clean as possible.
Hiya Shep, Good job! Can you say a bit more about the quote - tips, lessons learned, etc. My signal path's not a patch on yours but could you say a bit more about how to keep things clean?? Cheers, Rich
