dont worry didn't think you were being sarcy!! I am loving this second period of creativity in my musical life. After 10-15 musical wilderness years (3 beautiful kids to show for it), I am back, not this time with the basic no effects rock set up that defined those early days but now all kinds of sh*t including envelope filters, hothands, fuzzes, loopers, laptops, MIDI, synths. It's great!!!

"The Hawk" is BRILLIANT. Is it Microsoft Sam on vocals?
i love the Hawk too. Brilliant.
that's great, mate. Not the kind of thing i listen to but no way it's shiite. Sorry if you've explained your set up elsewhere but how did you put it together?
i have the old Analogman with deep switch. Nice! the new daddy is the Analogman mini with permanent deep and blend. I was also very excited by the Tech21 bass boost chorus. THese are £120+ pedals though.

Wow, this looks super interesting! A friend of mine built couple 1176 and it rocks! He uses it for vocals, but it was great with bass, along with the LA2A probably one of my favorite compressors.
If the pedal is loyal to the circuitry and components of the 1176, then, in my opinion, the price is not bad at all. The circuit is quite large and not at all cheap to build.
that's great to hear one pedal master compliment another builder. There's always space for high end stuff.
welcome - East Lothian's great. Stacker's from East Lothian. Quite a few Edinburghers joining up too. All good. Let us know if you find a good teacher in Edinburgh.
i just realised what this being a present means - i am lucky if i get a pack o 3 sports socks. This is an unbelievable present. Double lucky my friend.

I wonder if people who've only heard the piece on the album Thonk think it's anything more than a really good tune? Or if anyone has tried to play the piece on a standard fretless bass?
It puts me in mind of the story about Adrian Belew trying (and succeeding) to recreate Robert Fripp's solos from Heroes when the pieces in question had been assembled by Eno from multiple takes and had never originally been played as a continuous piece.

interesting question.

This is a good effort but i think the hyperbass generates more certainly performance wise but also musically in terms of the musicality of the tuning shifts and the open strings etc.
I feel like I've learned a lot about working with wood.

as the porn star said to the bishop . . .
OTOH if you've seen the other video of this where he takes as long to set up the bass to play in tune in all the different tuning combinations as it does to actually play the piece you may wonder if it's really worthwhile...
i dont really wonder at all. it is worth it. I appreciate microwave cooking as much as anyone, but also I like slow cook stuff that requires patience and preparation. Takes all sorts. (didn't think you were slagging it off, BTW so I am not having a go, just registering that 7 mins tuning for this aint such a big deal)
As mentioned, there's so many angles on this. For example, there's a 3 leaf audio PWNZOR for sale on here - it's a good pedal for enhancing/fattening tone, organic feel etc. Bongo describes it as the opposite of the MXR, which is more transparent, and better at limiting, so suits slap better. So that gives you one perspective. You mention control. In this regard I would refer you to FEA labs and Empress, which strike me as very near the top of the pedal comp league table. Metering is pretty important if you are concerned about control. That takes you on to rack mounted, where you get as much control as you could want.

I actually got to play this with Limahl a couple of weeks back I used the Beggs transcription but just made some changes by ear as it didn't sit right with me either. He seemed to like my version

ooooh get you
inasmuch as guys try to push the boundaries, this is the guy who amazes me most. I dont claim he's the best cause it's not clear best at what, but he is someone I can listen to, enjoy, admire, be amazed by.

yes to this - very "clean" OD with added advantage of tiny footprint on board.
