1. 1975 Jazz bass up for grabs! Great playing and sounding Jazz bass with ash body and rosewood block and bound board. The body has been stripped a long time. Neck has original finish with some natural wear. All hardware and parts are original including pots which are dated 7th week of 75. The back pickup has been slightly over routed at some point, probably to accomodate an EMG at some point but the original pickups are now back on the bass. The pickguard is not original to this bass but is a late 60's/early 70's white/black/white fender guard with the thumb rest holes in the lower position. Original frets with a decent amount of life left in them. Need to shift this. So for anyone who is interested I'm prepared to take ON £HOLD! PLUS DELIVERY OR COLLECTION FROM BRIGHTON. no offers. *i can only off the bass for UK only at the moment.
2. poly laquer is a lot harder to authentically replicate aging and wear than on a nitro cellulose finish. Also poly hardly ever looks good when an attempt has been made to age the finish as any marks/scratches will show up as white. If your bass is finished in nitro then i wouldn't use sand paper on it. use cellulose thinners on a bit of rag. try to keep in mind how the movemnts of say your forearm would be over the edges to make it look mroe authentic. Laquer checking can be recreated by gently warming and then rapidly cooling the finish. Fender do theirs by gently heating and then spraying with a can of compressed air. Gibson recreate the checking by painstakingly cutting the finish with a stanly blade! also use a bunch of keys on a lanyard and flick them at the body to create random dinks etc. thats just some tips. I do other things on my basses which I would rather keep to myself but theres some basic stuff to get you started. Biggest tip I would give you is 'know when to stop!' as its easy to go a bit too mad on them.
3. cheers man, didn;t see that one on the bay! heres some pix of the bass. the fingerboard was in bad shape a lot of the nitro paint had chipped of over the years and the board had some string dents. there were also some gaps in the join seams which needed re glueing with hide glue. I have now shot the board with a leveling block and the first coats of black nitro have been added.
4. buy a few really good condition early JV squiers.
5. Does anyone on ehre own an early framus triumph by any chance? I'm restoring a black 56 model at the moment which is missing the chrome plate and bridge assembly. As getting the parts for these is pretty impossible Im going to get some made so need to get the correct measurements. PM me if you can help! thanks
6. I think this kind of thread is a bit pointless...its a chance for the fender players to big them up and the non fender players to slag them off.. ..take it into your own hands and go to a music shop and try them out for yourself. nobody on here can tell you what you will like playing, only you know the answer to that.
7. I bought one on here about a month back for £30 delivered which was a really good deal. £30 - £40 is where you should be looking.
8.
Said like a true professional
You can't tell I work in guitar sales too can you
9. agreed to all the above. if you are being offered more from a delaer than you were selling them privately then they are very generous indeed...unless you had under priced them. As a retailer we offer around 50 -60 % of the second hand market value of the item on a trade in, this is pretty standard.
10. As a builder I think that at the end of the day it is entirely up to the company what they charge...It may be out of the reach of a lot of us but a lot of people do buy them otherwise they wouldn't be at that price range. ...but I have seen a couple of bad examples of foderas though they played and sounded excellent the build quality was, lets say flawed. It is onyl a detail thing though and has no affect on the instrument as an instrument but when you pay that money you would expect perfection on every level.
11. Im really tempted by the burgundy mist Jazz...I am making one for myself but that looks great for a mexican!
12. lovely chaser. having made plenty of these while working for Mike and having owned a couple myself I can vouch that they are superb all round basses and they definitly deserved the bass of the year award which they won from guitar buyer. They do the stingray sound fantastically well but are also very versatile. though slightly chunkier than a Jazz bass at the nut they are very fast and slim feeling so I wouldn't be put off if you have smaller hands! good luck with the sale
13. bit of wire around the machine head and the other end hooked over a screw in the wall! works a treat!
14. one of new kings road guitars basses. They've had it a fair while!
15. I'm curious as to how its so pristine!!! looks gorgeous..does it play as well as it looks?
16. squier CV series!
17. I used to play in a band with her son. Shes got some great basses (and some hideous ones too)...especially her 57 Precision which I had a sneaky go on while at their house!
18. Thanks Duncan
19. great bass player and lovely tone despite the hashbrown
20. ahh the 54 strat originally was listed at the same price but it came with an all original 52 P bass too which was played by the same band. he must of sold it seperately!
21. Im guessing this is the famous gold sparkle 64...hes had it on the bay for about 2 years with no joy! He must of spent nearly that in listing fees by now
22. Yeah Im looking forwardto the relicing! I would like to know why the bridge was moved too! Just as an interesting point I have a primitive fuzz circuit swith made for this already so will come with the bass for the more daring bassists out there!
23. This shall no longer be a bargain!
24. Personally from extensive experience my number one Jazz bass pickups would now hands down be Suhr Vintage wound pickups.. They are extremely well made and sound absolutely amazing! Also they are the quietest j pups I have ever used! If anyone is interested in them then I can supply them at great prices. Theres also a more modern sounding set available too which work great with active pre-amps. Wes
25. cheers guys! I have made the body already and given it the first coats of fiesta red already! Ill get some pix up on a thread soon for all to see.
