1.
Looks fab, Wes! Out of interest why did you take the Fender decal off? It was a real Fender neck after all! I imagine you will have a few cheeky PMs making offers on this. Great work
Haha, I thought you might ask that! I have ordered a new decal for it. I just had to strip the original finish off the face of the headstock to make the radius where the rosewood and maple meet.
2.
Does it have rotosound trubass strings on it as well. I always heard they were Hebie's string of choice.
it doesn't. It has chromes flatwounds on it. I do have some trubass strings for it however I really don't like the feel or tone of them personally, this is going to be a bass that i will gig a fair amount so the strings need to be right for me.
3. so heres the bass all finished. I didn't have time to make a neck for this in the end so I decided to use a modified American Vintage 62 neck which I purchased off Clarky. I have put the fingerboard join radius in and slightly reshaped the back of the neck, refinned with nitro and aged. the fingerboard is lovely and dark too! The bass has all the old early 60's hardware on it now including a 62 bridge, 62 tuners, 61 string tree, all early 60's screws, 59 thumb rest etc. (thanks to 99ster for who I purchased a lot of the hardware from) so here it is.
4. As requested here are some more pictures. I have recently put a brand new john east Iceni 2 band eq in (the same ones used in Zoot basses) and took some shots without the strings and the electronics installed. you can really see the tiger stripe in the jarrah jarrah! Also shows the slight little knocks the bass has had from going on tour with me various times.
5.
dude looks lovely any chance of some better pictures? kindest regards ziggy.
Yes certainly! I shall put some up later today.
6. looks lovely! I'm building one just like this at the moment!
7. BUMP with price drop to £575 delivered. £50 will still go to the help japan charity. Awesome handmade custom bass. built in the zoot custom workshop in essex by myself when I was working for Mike.
8. Hey all, I have decided to move this on as I havn't had a chance to use it in such a long time (about 3 years) and it is just sitting behind my sofa in a case. This is the first bass i ever made under my own name and it is one that i promised myself I would keep, The reality is I'm never going to need to play it as I only ever use 4 strings now and would prefer it to go to a basschatter who will use it! The bass is on the home page to my website www.steedbasses.co.uk and the specs are as follows Body: bookmatched Tiger Jarrah Jarrah top and back by maple and mahogany veneers, mahogany core. Neck: 7 piece Maple and Australian Blue Gum, Walnut fingerboard Scale: 35" Hardware:Black hipshot bridge, Wilkinson tuners, Black knobs Pickups: Bartolini EQ:John East 2 band 9V The neck profile is wide/thin and is beautiful to play. The tone is very warm and the low B sounds incredible. heres some pix of when i first finished the guitar on the thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=prototype The bass is in played condition and has various little knocks and scratches. I am looking for £550 for this delivered £50 of this will be donated to help the people of japan.
9. the big deal is they are 'vintage correct' haha. that means they are twice the price by the way
10. I work for a large music retailer and this is really going to affect business. About 80% of the take it away schemes are applied for by over 35's. This is usually done by a parent on behalf of a child. I would get in quick people this scheme has been brilliant.
11. Imagine what Gary Moore's 'stripe' 59 is worth now! near the $1m mark I reckon!
12. p bass 80% of the time it works everytime..the jazz has got the rest.
13.
Well it is a Gibson, maybe he sneezed and the headstock snapped off?
or a fly landed on it?
14.
If it is the same guitar then it's unlikely the buyer would deliberately break it just for £200 though. I wouldn't be happy with that amount as it would have to cover the cost of repair and compensate for the loss in the guitar's value. The buyer will have still spent a significant amount for a damaged guitar, not exactly the smartest conman! If it is the same guitar then the buyer will have to get it repaired and send a receipt from the luthier in order for the OP to make a claim (although this may vary among couriers), this ensures he's not trying to pull a fast one. If i were the OP i would contact the courier to let them know the problem sooner rather than later, also find out what you need to make a claim (photos, receipts etc.) as invariably it will be you who has to pursue it as you arranged for it and paid them.
I didn't mean he;d break it on purpose. He could very easily have leant the guitar against the wall and accidently broken it himself!
15. haha tell me about it! work - london - home- work - london - home etc....Hiopefully itll pay off this time
16. Hey all One of the artists I session for is song of the day at popjustice.com http://www.popjustice.com/index.php?option...&Itemid=279 go check it out! Single is released 11th April. (i think) Were playing the 100 club on Friday 13th May too if you want to come down. Wes
17. If he has thrown away the packaging then I reckon he must be pulling a fast one. You just wouldn't think to do that if you had opened the case and seen that it was broken. You'd put it straight back into the box.
18. If I had spare cash I'd buy this if the price was right...id fill the holes with dried peas too so the bass can double up as a shaker.....
19.
Bass is now repaired and set up. Hopefully gonna pick it up later today. Instruction to self - 'don't stand it up against the car and don't drop it!!!!'
Let me know how it is man! Ive heard good things about Jimmy moons repair work!
20.
DO NOT DO THIS. FOLLOW EBAY RULES TO THE LETTER. HE HAS TO SEND IT BACK AT HIS EXPENSE INITIALLY, AND THEN EBAY WILL ABITRATE IF THERE'S A PROBLEM FROM THERE AND YES, I AM SHOUTING, SORRY! IMO he's hoping you wil think it's al too much hassle and that, when he says he can get it repaired for £250, you'll agree and send him the cash. It's a common scam on ebay and has developed largely as the result of sellers not being able to leave negative feedback. I don't have time now to help further, but don't do anything until you've had a lot of advice from people on here. The same situation has come up many times here and elsewhere. As someone said above, don't let him dictate terms. Also read ALL the terms and conditions around buying and selling, they are comprehensive
+1 This is standard procedure. Getting photographs of the packaging is very important. I work in a store and we receive hundreds of gibsons every year. They are sent in the case with no additional packaging other than a card carton with foam ends. We probably have about 0.5% of guitars arrive with a broken headstock where the carton has had a visible fall or knock. What I'm trying to say is make sure that theres no impact marks on the guitar which would suggest it was dropped by the buyer when out of the case. if it went while in the case it would be a clean break with the headstock veneer probably still intact as there was no pressure on the headstock due to slackened strings. good luck getting it sorted
21. haha. I think i may have one that is made from timber that was grown using the very same recycled water and air that maccas bass timber was grown with...I can;t be certain but a buy it now of £2000 will secure it.
