Excellent service once again from Chris. cheers buddy

a lot of it is commission sale. The people who own them obviously know how much the guitar is worth so want a good return on it. The shop just whack a huge sellers fee on top i guess. They can probably get away with it being on kings road with all the rich business men looking to invest their money in old guitars instead of putting it in the bank. Clarky-that 63 refin P is about £2.5 k over priced! for just over £3k you could get headofires 1961 refin P off the for sale thread in here!

unfortunately I don't have the space for a 410 in my flat. I've always had to have smaller cabs because of this. I'm going to try out an ampeg SVT 7 when were a bit quieter at work with various small cabs till i get the right combination.

I have had many bass amps over the years from tech soundsystems, Aguilar, markbass, GK and all of them have been great while I've owned them...until I go to a reheasal and end up renting an Ampeg SVT classic and 8x10. The sound of my gear never compares so I end up selling it on but not buying an ampeg due to the sheer size. I've heard that you get get an apeg ish sound from a mesa boogie but havn't been able to get it myself. why cant an svt weigh 4lbs!!!??

I contacted them recently about buying a 64 burgundy mist P bass from them. I was genuinly interested and sent an email. no reply...i made a phone call...they said they'd get back to me....no reply...I called them again and they just couldn't be assed to talk to me... all I wanted was they're best price. I was ready to take the very large loan the bank had offered me and go down there if it would of come out at the right price. but after that I shall not bother!
all factory made instruments are a load of rubbish!
I'd have to disagree with this. I do agree that putting a bridge in the right place is a simple matter of checking everything before you commit to drilling the hole, but personally if it feels right and more importantly lines up over the pickups then I'm happy. I think its more important that the nut is cut correctly to avoid any unnecessary pull on the nut which I have seen on a lot of basses.
Nice look and all that, but I for one would like a picture including the headstock. I thought Custom Shop jobs were only available to USA, Canada & Japan. How did you go about ordering yours? Regards...
You can order custom guitars through any custom shop dealer in the UK. build time is now about 8 months (tho longer for something like this as theres 2 paint jobs and a lot of relicing. Price of one of these will be well over £3k as it would have to be masterbuilt spec. Yes Fenders do stink...usually of sweat, beer, and tobacco. I think it adds to the tone.

yep its been rebound and refretted with the frets capped by the bounding like on a les paul. youre probably right about it being late 60s early 70s

Its all just down to jealousy when people try to piss all over threads like this. Well done to skinny machines for getting further in their careers than the people who are try to bring them down and I hope they have found a suitable bassist through this site. It amazes me how this site has changed in the last few years. I remember when everyone on here used to help everyone else!

Jazz Bass Grounding Strap Question
wesfinn replied to johnDeereJack's topic in Repairs and Technical
They were all cut by hand at fender. There was no set dimension for them. They were alot thinner than they are on the reissues though and tend to dovetail out under the bridge for better contact. -
Hearing your rig played by another bass player

everyone who plays through my rig sounds better than me..... -
Awesome work Wes! I'm more than a little envious and a matching p-bass would be the bees proverbials. Any chance of some sound clips?
Yep I will put some up when i have the proper neck done.
Nice job Wes! Are you going to get some tapewounds for the real Herbie vibe though?? Honestly never heard anythiong else sound like his bass and I reckon its mainly because no one else uses those strings....
I did get some tapewounds for it, but personally i don't like the feel of them. If I decide to sell this after all I will put them on if the person wants them.
Great work mate, hope you're gonna keep it? C
Thats the plan! I need one P and one Jazz and think this is probably the Jazz for me.

Ok so I have finished the relicing on the body and have put a temporary all parts neck onto the bass until I get a few sapre days to finish making the one I have started. I have gone with Suhr vintage pickups which are absolutely fantastic on the stack know circuit. It weighs 9lbs with the allparts neck which isnt particularly nice so Im hoping it will be just under 9lb with my flamed neck! Sounds incredible too and is strung with D'adario chromes flats. Heres some pictures. I am extremely happy with how this has turned out.

I have been sent better photographers by the seller. It all looks legit

heres a couple of shots with the repro mint guard and the original 60's hardware on the body I'm excited about theis now...need to finish the neck..if only there were more days in a week!
-
Haha...yeah Leo is probably having a good old laugh at our expense for buying into the 'vintage' thing! I'm thinking of keeping this bass now. I have a full set of early 60's hardware for this bad boy...coupled with the Suhr pickups and a slim 60 profile neck I'm (getting around to) making. Should be a killer sounding bass when its done!

OI...I have a matching headstock P bass Vintage Schmintage correct....It looks damn cool tho! but just for you duncan I will leave it plain on this one The lack of white primer showing through was just how it ended up..being the first colour over colour I've attempted things didn't go excatly as planned ( I was expecting it to go that way though)...but I am well pleased with how it looks. I may do a bit more on the front so that theres more of the fiesta red showing through on the forearm *also like to add that I wanted to keep the finish as thin as possible on this (unlike Herbies) so the white primer layer was hard to keep intact in large amounts. I just didn't want to sacrifice the tone of the beautiful piece of Alder that i used by piling finish up on it.
