4.
Really! i did not know that. Yes they are both really great players. I think that line is pretty cool if you take away the fun aspect of it. Its sort of funky, east end and fun. very clever. Thanks for the info, and merry xmas you too.
I had the pleasure of seeing them play when the old Pye studio in Bryanston Street closed, belting out classic rock & roll on the very expensive grand piano in the main studio! Also worked on some old Deep Purple archive material so got to work with some complete anoraks - I guess a little rubbed off! The Bongo (and your playing) is great BTW, keep posting!

6. Nice one - Happy Christmas GreyParrot. Glad to see some appreciation for Chas & Dave, much better musicians than most would give them credit for. One thing though, although Dave was the bass player in the band, Chas was the one who had done all the bass sessions being part of Joe Meek's Outlaws set up (at one point along with Richie Blackmore), then working with Jerry Lee Lewis and Gene Vincent. So two great bass players in one underrated band - bet that doesn't happen too often!
7.
Hope noboyd would complain for reviving this thread - just discovered it, being enjoying so much and wanted to give my small contribution Sade can melt your heart if she wants too - or groove hard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StP0_zbDIMo...feature=related His name (used to be?) Prince and he's indeed funky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8E-Emy1n6w here's stevie: he turns a cheesy pop synth hit into a live burner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPhaRYI5KGE Joss Stone - kinda of a mainstream act, but this's a nice slow one. Pretty girl too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50pb2h7Midk
Not going to hear any clomplaints for revising this one, esp when you post these! Never understood the Sade bashing that went on after she was succesful. Always loved that Stevie song, but yes, at last a version that takes away the cheese. My current bee in the bonnet - why weren't these guys bigger:
8. A band - which may be sorted on Monday Then, get my neck back with new fretless board Then Orange Bass Terror Oh, and some better weather for the day job (gardening)
9. Any smaller statured DB players out there - just spotted this on Brighton Gumtree: http://brighton.gumtree.com/brighton/45/70784745.html
10. Yuletide Greetings to the BC team and thanks for a great forum. Peace and Goodwill to all in Off Topic
11. It used to be a badge of honour having an almost unliftable bass to go with the humongous rig! A lot here has been said before on the balance of a bass - I know I changed because my previous bass would bite into my shoulder really badly. Next bass, although I'd looked for something lighter, weighs exactly the same, just doesn't feel that way on the strap.
12. Rant Alert........ Only gone through the first few as my blood was starting to boil, and I've decided (early New Year resolution) to stop being a grumpy old man, BUT, most of these are NOT unsung - prime examples Bernard Edwards and Duck Dunn!!!!!!!! OK, I'll accept Tommy Cogbill being unsung, but what a lack of thought by the compilers. Oh, and no Tony Goggle Rant over.
13.
As we're playing it all in concert pitch I'm playing it on open strings down an octave from the original bassline. I don't think anyone except for me has noticed that I'm playing it differently.
Yes, still slightly off topic (but hey, it was my thread ) there is a lot of that sort of thing like the band stopping because you're not playing because you're not supposed to be, but they don't know!
14. Dexter Gordon's version of Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry, played so lyrically you don't even need Sinatra's vocal version!
15. OK, I'll give the specific song that prompted theis - Bob Dylan's Tom Thumb Blues - the bass starts of on G on the E string in the intro but then goes up the octave in the body of the song so that the low V can be played - thus playing G in the same octave as the guitarist, although the D is obviously lower. From this I have the sneaking feeling, if a 5th string was available, Harvey Brooks have used it. This also sort of agrees with Jennifer's post regarding the arrangement. Thanks for the replies. Mike
16. Got an old bass line that is in G and uses the root - V pattern. To do this it is played up the octave as obviously, when the track was recorded there wasn't the option of a low D. What would others do - play it authentically, going up into the guitar registar, or play it down the octave? Thanks, Mike
17. That's a really good quality video - should've been a Transit not a Citroen though
18. Thanks HappyJack. That's such a tidy headstock I had to recount the number of strings a couple of times! p.s. How's the leg?
19. Seen a couple of good mentions of Status Hotwire Half Rounds and sounds like they could be what I'm looking for when my neck returns with a new fretless board. Just a bit concerned from the Status website about scale lengths - the long scale are for 35" or 34" with through body stringing but the medium scale are for 32". Will the long scale be ok for 34" through bridge stringing?
20. Been quietly following this, so glad it finally arrived and WOW! That is stunning - Ebony has just become my new Spalted Maple!
21. Only one way to find out - do it! I seem to recall from some of your earlier posts you are a bit of a fish out of water where you are at the moment. Bristol seems to have a lot going for it. Whatever the outcome I wish you well
22. Love the harmonies. Nice work.
23. Love a bit of melancholia - this one is great in that it finally reveals the song for what it truly was, not the wonderful but happy, bright sounding original by the Mamas & Papas:
24. Thanks for the heads up. Downloaded and a message came up, payment failed - it still let me have the app though!
25. Didn't really like it then, still not keen now, however, I was working for a record telesales company at the time - funnily enough one of my calls was a shop in Evesham - and house music really opened up black music to all sorts of areas. Before it there was a real split - only the big cities with a sizable black poulation would buy black music, but this stuff seemed to break down a lot of boundaries. Surprised you missed the daddy of them all:
