Only ever played a similarly priced Surveyor - loved it!! Used to stock their guitars when I had a shop and was seriously impressed by the lower priced gear - did find that the 400 level guitars could be either amazing or a little bit disappointing - would highly reccomend you see if anyone has one in stock rather than going the mail order route. Plenty of retailers one here - one of tehm may be able to help.

I play 5 string simply because I prefer playing a the 5th fret than open, and don't like going up the dusty end for D. Get myself into all sorts of problems on a 4 string.

Give Colin Fulton a call - he's on the luthier list on here. He used to be a G&L dealer, and I remember him talking about doing jobs like this (I took over the shop he had in Ipswich). He's not near to you but can probably make a good assesment by phone and then he's only a courier away.

Looking at the OP's sig it shouldn't be a problem at the moment for him, but word of warning, do not use any of these with instruments with a nitro cellulose finish as they react badly with each other (and the nito cellulose comes off worst)!
