1. Currently the gigs section goes back 10 days on page one. I think it is a case of people just not looking - I was well aware you were playing up in Scotland - bit of a trek from West Sussex!! Just one of those facts of life Pete that a huge number of people need things thrust under their noses before they take notice.
2. You could get a great Country lyric out of all that Hope Rufus makes a speedy recovery!
3. Well that was a good one! Terminus in Hailsham (again) this time there were a good few bodies in to start with and we had people come in because they heard us!! A few iffy moments (a couple from me, some from the keys and a couple from the singer) but the energy and vibe was the best yet! Positive feedback from some of th epunters including liking us not being a traditional "covers" band - yes, we do covers - Dylan to Ronnie Lane but play them our way. Usual post gig problem, now not tired but got to be up by 7.30
4. Is '83 really "vintage"? If so I'm feeling OLD
5. According to the BMI website, these are the publishers: http://repertoire.bmi.com/title.asp?blnWri...uerytype=WorkID As others have said, if you are performing the song and reporting it to PRS then there should be no problem. Selling it will become an issue. The only other thing they can give you hassle about is making changes to the song - which they may feel you have by altering the title. Not a music lawyer but worked on the licensing side in record companies for many years.
6.
I heard Hugh Masakela's Grazin in The Grass one night on Capital Radio. That got me into the sound of the trumpet. From there it was Miles Davis next. Still love the trumpet in all genres of modern music and if I was starting out as a muso again it's the instrument I'd go for.
Wow, anyone else remember when Capital Radio played quality specialist music? Alexis Korner and Adrian Love used to do early evening weekends IIRC. Anyway, enough of hijacking the thread, Herbie Hancock's Quartet album (with Wynton Marsalis) was probably the one for me - was in to jazz-rock and jazz-funk so when this came out I wasn't quite expecting straight-ahead Hancock but loved it right from the start. Might have to start a thread about Nicky Horne now you've got me all nostalgic
7.
I didn't want to be the first to mention this seller... so I won't! Nice bass. Always fancied a 70s Guild
No, not THAT John Entwistle.....this one's a bin man from Doncaster (just as a little clue)
8. Thanks for those.
9. Are they as wonderful as my GAS is telling me?
10. Pretty good evidence for the Entwistle / Rotosound case but can't work out what the Danelectro reference is about: http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/gear/bass/bassmisc.html
11. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/original...bass-4/77227841 Usual disclaimer - nothing to do with me, just flagging up for anyone who may be interested.
12. Nice gig at Eastbourne TUC club - small room, low ceiling but balance was great, punters dancing from second song to the end, forgot my crib sheets (only been with this band a short while) but somehow got away with the few bits that went awry! All in all a good night - shame I need to be up in 6 hours time and don't feel the least bit tired!
13. Very handsome looking rig. Nice to hear of a happy reunion!!
14. A scientific expedition disembarks from its plane at the final outpost of civilization in the deepest Amazon rain forest. They immediately notice the ceaseless thrumming of native drums. As they venture further into the bush, the drums never stop, day or night, for weeks. The lead scientist asks one of the natives about this, and the native's only reply is "Drums good. Drums never stop. Very BAD if drums stop." The drumming continues, night and day, until one night, six weeks into the trip, when the jungle is suddenly silent. Immediately the natives run screaming from their huts, covering their ears. The scientists grab one boy and demand "What is it? The drums have stopped!" The terror-stricken youth replies "Yes! Drums stop! VERY BAD!" The scientists ask "Why? Why? What will happen?" Wild-eyed, the boy responds, " . . . BASS SOLO!!!" -
15. Anyway, it should be Bass Player or Bassist
16. You're right - just goes to show how custom luthier basses don't hold their value - bet it's heaps better than a MIM?!
17. Nothing to do with me - looks lovely but I'm 5 strings only: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/status-t...d-case/76901511
18. New they're about £900 now, but despite what they say, this isn't new and should be nearer the 5-600 mark which is what the last couple on here made (mine being one of them). They are very good EUB's and are the one that Stagg have copied.
19. Not sure about having to really move around but yes, a band must put in that little something extra to make a live show work. I saw Van Morrison in Marlay Park just outside of Dublin - re-arranged venue due to the original show (closer to town) being flooded - typical July "soft" weather. Not great crowd, and a lot there were more into the more Celtic side of Van whereas the show was a full on RnB set. The band and Van were amazing, the show really buzzed despite a muted response from the crowd. Saw him 3 weeks later, same band, same set at the Bishopstock Blues Festival - audience really into it but a real "going through the motions" feel to the set. Not a note out of place but it just didn't have the same buzz as Dublin.
20.
I think there is a lot these days about deaths & anniversaries of those deaths so I'm surprised this one slipped by. I think it's fair to say the legacy lives on though
Legacy - That was one of the G&L models wasn't it?
21.
Thanks for the well meant offer, but I'd rather chew my left arm off than deal with anyone remotely connected with Denmark Street unless its cash straight into my hands there and then.
Got no connection with the guy but I've done two deals with him, very happy with both and he got a very good price for my brother's '64 Epiphone Rivoli. They've got no connections with the guys at the other end of the street!!
22. Thanks Hutch - got one 2gb card and that's getting "reading song" message that seems quite common. 1gb are as rare as hen's teeth these days
23. Just downloaded and put a quick review up on Amazon - sorry, not my greatest piece of writing but hope it helps!
24. Have a word with Brian at Wunjo in Denmark St - he sold my much later 30th Anniversary re-issue for about £1200 on a pretty good comission deal. Yours being an old original is probably worth a fair bit more.
25. Just bought one of these and want to get a larger SD card - unfortunately the first Sansdisk 2gb I put in isn't compatible - anyone know of a source of supply for compatible 1 or 2gb cards - they seem way too small for most suppliers now!
