1. Latest figures I can find are from 2008 - recorded music sales (some guy twiddling with his Mac to paraphrase the OP) down 6%. Live music sales - real muso's going out there and playing - up 13% making the total UK music revenue up 4.7% at £3.6 billion. Also, according to UK Music's 2009 survey, the festival season alone creates 19,700 full time jobs through music tourism. Doesn't look like the end of real musicians to me!
 2.
Of course they leave you burdened with debt. Instead of having £x to spend on things like buying a house or other trivial things, you have to spend that £x on repaying your loan. That's a debt burden in my book.
IMO, at the rates that the repayments have been set it cannot be regarded as a burden. Also, statistically, as a graduate you will end up earning significantly more throughout your working career which will easily compensate for this. Importantly, the loan does not have any effect on your credit record. I was very much in the anti student loan lobby but looked a little closer at it after hearing the guy from Money Saving Expert shed some very interesting (no pun intended) light on the subject.
 3. Chris2112, I've got to take issue with you here on two things: 1) the issue of student loans - they don't leave you burdened with debt, they are very sensibly worked out so that they are completely affordable and only repaid when you can afford to repay them. 2) Having been through 20 years of music industry experience then leaving and trying to get back in a few years later, yes, a music degree does count for a lot. I have fallen at the first hurdle in countless job applications where the first essential requirement is a "relevant" degree. In my opinion there will always be jobs for well trained musicians, sure, they won't be as well paid and glamorous as they were in Anthony Jackson's day but the live music industry is thriving (unlike the recorded side) and will continue to need versatile, diligent, professional players for years to come.
 4.
Was just about to let Mike know and quickly checked it. No problem with it. http://www.purple-chili.com/ You're not after a a 2x12 are you? Got one in Kit Form, (everythiung except drivers).
Very odd - just followed your link and again was held waiting for a .ru address. Was just window shopping, may be looking for a second 112 in the new year but may come back to you then if you still have it!
 5. I've got the Cort GB75 which is over the £300 mark but the 35 is a great bass for the money. http://www.thomann.de/gb/cort_gb35a_3ts.htm
 6. Hi Guys, Just went to have a look at the Purple Chili website - word of warning, it seems to have been hijacked by a Russian site. If anyone is in touch with the guys perhaps you can alert them, in the meantime it may be wise to steer clear! Mike
 7.
Tennis elbow is from impact usually, and results in tiny tears in the tendons around the elbow and inflammation and resultant pain around the outside of the elbow. You won't be able to hold a kettle of water, or extend the fingers outwards against resistance. Rest is the treatment. How do you know you have tennis elbow?
My GP told me it was from rotational motion rather than impact - called tennis elbow because it is often caused by the arm motion associated with topspin. I got mine from commercial hedge-trimming
I get it when I play too much Golf...rest is the best answer though Tiger Balm did seem to give some relief..
Golfer's elbow - slightly different - tennis elbow pain on the outside the joint, golfer's elbow on the inside of the joint. Can I have my pedant's badge now please?
 8. First up, love Al Jarreau, and yes, nice groove to the above, great feel in drums and percussion. Now I am not one of the All Slap is Evil brigade but I've got to say I found some of what the bass was doing here entirely surplus to requirements, even, dare I say it, a little gratuitous. On the other hand, I loved the more subtle playing at around 3.23.
 9. I harbour a bit of a gripe over modern electronic equipment and the fact that it is now so cheap it has become a throwaway item. So old lead solder was harmful to the environment - I bet the problems the amount of X Boxes, PlayStations and Class D amplifiers that have been dumped as they cannot be repaired far outweighs the damage the lead ever did. Rant over! Check out the recommended repairers on this site, get it fixed properly and enjoy a high quality amp for a good few years!
 10.
Just stop being a smarty pants and tell us the answer!!
Sorry, wasn't the intention at all, didn't want to spoil it for those that did want to work it out. I posted because I thought it was nice that a crossword setter felt a bass player was a big enough household name to be worthy of being a crosword clue. It is of course Entwistle - as pointed out by discreet, an anagram of the first two words.
 11.
Being hopeless with crosswords, can anyone put me out of my misery? By that I mean reveal the answer, not shoot me.
PM'd in case the two extra clues hadn't helped
 12. Bit of a sad one really - played the pub that we have been rehearsing in for the last year as the pub's swansong - it has been dying on its ar$e since the Weatherspoons opened down the road and is going to be a doctor's surgery in the New Year. Not a big crowd but those that were there enjoyed themselves and the landlord loved it!
 13.
Do you mean my £21 bid (with maximum bid of £35) is too much?
A one metre 4 core from OBBM would have been £20 (sorry)
 14. Yep, it was one of only 4 that I've managed to get so far
 15. Who says bass players don't get the recognition they deserve - Observer crossword clue: New titles composed for famous bass guitarist (9)
 16.
Your photo links aren't working, I'm afraid, and that includes the http link you've included. Does the bass come with the correct costume?
Nah, needs to be played with that drummer at the wrong gig!!
 17. Cort GB75 - too many controls: push pull pot, three way selector and blend pot and some silly mid boost toggle. Apart from that it is a lovely bass with a custom ebony fretless board. I'm going passive in the new year.
 18.
Great track ... great album in fact. This is one of my favourites from it.
Yep, I'll have to dig the album out again - especially to listen to that one without the cheesey video - looks like they seriously ran out of budget!!
 19. Heard this again last night - I know it is a direct lift from the O Jays so perhaps I should have posted that instead, but this gets me every time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOcMY3CHQyg&feature=related
 20. Double Header with the Koan Brothers as a bit of a fond farewell to this old boozer before the developers move in :-( Always a good gig, this one should be a little special.
 21.
When I was looking for a fretless acoustic the major stumbler was the fact that they all seemed to be short scales!! I believe the crafter is? The only two I found that where not silly money were the Ashbury and the Harley Benton. I plumped for the HB and just skipping over the minor details of the side dots being in the fretted position and the neck strap button was on the Lefty side Its actually not a bad little number. Strung with GHS Black Nylons it has a very woody sound. I was actually sold on the Youtube vids of it. A
The Crafter is 32"
 22.
I stocked this when I had a music shop and was very happy with it once I'd put flats on. Did need to re-cut the nut to take them though: http://www.google.co...ved=0CFgQ8wIwAw

This would be cool http://www.ebay.co.u...=item519c295154
Woah!! Forget the last post - Ozark didn't do a fretless version of this when I was trading but I did have a fretted version and it was incredible! Don't think it would suit what you are looking for though.

 24. Getting people up dancing from the second song in right the way through to the last number! Especially as we are not really a dancey sort of band
 25. Lovely little (semi) acoustic gig last night at my local, the Woolpack in Burgess Hill. Lots of Dylan as usual, had a couple of Dylan afficionados who really appreciated it. Loads of great feedback from the regulars, really enjoyable night.
