1. the landlord probably sees more £s from a party meal than that being brought in for drinks. given he is changing the terms and payment (i'd still insist on £400 previously agreed regardless of how he has changed the hours), you'd be well within your rights to cancel.
2. i still like and listen to vinyl. we have so much music piped into our ears at supermarkets, restaurants etc that it has become just a thing. the whole process of putting on vinyl (or a cd for that matter) and reading liner notes etc whilst you listen makes you appreciate the music more.
3. I find the opposite. Reaper normally claims ownership of the sound drivers for me so everything outside of reaper is muted.
4. cheers dad, thanks for the feedback, very happy with the reznor comparison i'll have a listen again for that glitch, i've listened so many times while mixing this week i think i've become a bit blind earwise so i probably missed something. i see what you mean about the snare, i did try and change it later in the mix, but it then started to have knock on effect everywhere else (i export from superior drummer rather than using its inbuilt processing ya see). I will keep it in mind for my next one. this is one i needed to get finished and out. due to confidence issues and such i havent really recorded and mixed much in the past year so I am happy it has come out as well as it has. next one will be a bit tighter.
5. I had issues with soundcloud when I was uploading it, so maybe soundcloud is having a mare.
6. I have been sat on this song for a number of years, and it has for various reasons never made it past a demo. I have always been self conscious about people hearing my own work, which is bizarre as I am more than happy when it is my band stuff. As such, I have struggled to release my solo stuff (despite having a massive back stock of songs). I decided then that I had to overcome this fear of letting people hear my stuff, so took some time to record this properly over the last couple of months. I'm please with the result. It may not be "finished" in my eyes, but it is printed and will take it's place in my musical history. give it a listen and let me know if you like it. https://soundcloud.com/robslusarmusic/inner-light
7. when i was in a blues trio for a few years, i was blessed to have one of the best guitarists i've ever played with, which just left me to play and sing. we were influenced a lot by the likes of clapton, hendrix, bonamassa, bb king, robert cray, sometimes it was complex, other times simple 12 bar based stuff. for me, improvisation was key, because sometimes there is a lot of space that needs filling but you have to know when enough is enough. the biggest element is feel. some of our songs that went down the best were simple, when you get the feel right, 5 notes can speak more than 10.
8. i have a full time job, so for me it be the crowd. playing to entertain people is why we do it, at least those of us who play live. if i wanted to spend my spare time getting paid for something no one appreciates, i'd get a second job stacking shelves at sainsburys.
9.
Sort of off topic. Experience folks and Pros never hire the best musicians. They hire the best people. There's a huge obvious difference between the two. BTW, a lot of folks and bands don't get this. Blue
there is an element of truth in this. i've had people in my bands who were not the best musicians i could have had, but they were competent and there personality and drive made up for what they lacked in other areas.
10. i was under the impression that a lot of bands buy there way on to big tours such as this?
11. its always good to have stuff like that, it brings back memories and makes you remember why you do it. thanks for sharing
12.
you are always welcome , I hope your mojo picks up really soon
me too, its infuriating at times being surrounded by music gear and not wanting to use it
13. i've been pretty sh*t at entering this year, a mixture of house moves, family illness and depression have really smashed my desire to write and record. hopefully i can get back on it next year
14.
Sorry Blue, starting a new project is a blast and not really that hard at all. Unless you have a ready pool of musicians, you advertise, make a few calls, set a date, book a room and play. The hardest part is trying to get shot of someone who doesn't work out.
i'm not often on the same page as blue, but i think he means the getting musical cohesion, working relationships, paying gigs etc. its easy enough to get 4 guys in a room, but if those 4 guys can't form a relationship beyond that that phase it will go nowhere (unless of course you are happy to jam in a room occasionally, which is totally cool). i've been in start up bands that have gone on and gigged, recorded a etc which were great fun and what i would consider not a failure. there have on the other hand been times when i've been in start up projects which haven't even made it into that 4 guys in a room situation.
15. i only join bands with no identity or any apparently clue what is going on or what will go on... as such i have dropped him a message. i'm hoping we can create a vehicle to play our songs around town, for exposure obviously
16. in that case i don't suspect it to be a soundcard clash as any software you are using will probably default to the us122, it could be a driver issue. you could switch of the sound card in the computers device manager
17. depending on which version of the us-122 you have, that may be the cause of the issue. the one i had stopped making drivers after windows xp, so you may be having a driver issue. you may well be creating some kind of odd loop between the two inputs. think of it this way, if you have an external, interface that becomes your soundcard and normally you would send all sound in and out through that, if you are using both then you may be creating the sound that way. how have you got it all connected it up?
18. ive got an ibanez sound wave 65 as my practice/acoustic amp. it's old a well built and doesn't rattle at all. as mentioned before, cheap combos are exactly that. my first one i killed fairly swiftly. cubes are good and reliable. you say you don't like the tone, but is that really an issue if it is just to take to your girlfriends house? to be fair, when i used to go to my GFs (now wife) house playing bass was very much the last thing on my mind....
19.
FWIW, he's mentioned in several interviews over the years that the whole 'Beatles' phenomenon completely mystified the band, them being - as it were - at the eye of the storm. That said, their 'significance' cannot have completely escaped his attention. At the London press launch of Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds in 1966 McCartney and Lennon were wafted past the waiting hacks into a closed room where they - and they alone - listened to the album in its entirety. At the conclusion of their private audition they appeared before the swooning journos, gave the album the Beatles' regal imprimatur and disappeared into the night.
it was a joke. but yeah, when you are the eye of the storm and as big as they were, you are sheltered from it, especially given the lack of social media and internet in those days. i think its fair to say that his longevity as a performer can partly be attributed to their impact and importance, many other players have disappeared into the distance from that era, but my interest in mccartney is purely based on his beatles work as opposed to his recent work.
20.
Even Paul is having second thoughts...
clearly he wasn't there to witness the impact they made
21. if you are asking us, you already know. if you are having fun then stick them out whilst looking for something more fulfilling. there is nothing wrong like feeling you are the least talented in the band, it drives you to get better. unless they are no hopers, you can be that guy they aspire to be and guide them.
22. i took out a waves subscription last month, and decide to cancel it after 2 weeks. they were old, clunky and sounded no better than the reaper in built ones. i'll look at slate i think
23. mine keeps telling me its only in demo mode and there will be silences... i'll uninstall i think
24.
all accomplished successful musicians I know, that are not necessarily fans still put them at the top of the heap because they shaped modern music.
that is exactly my point. i totally appreciate what the beatles did for music, and i do listen to them from time to time, and do own beatles records. i don't however say a prayer to mccartney when i put a bass on, or have a shrine to them in my front room. I can accept the way they have shaped music without being into them. you don't have to like them to appreciate what they did, if we all liked them it would be boring as sh*t
25. i've failed a couple, normally i just move on. most of the time people ask me if i want to play with them so i don't audition all that much.
