1.
... or died of old age..?
perhaps he didn't want to do it for money anymore, so now he is in a basement somewhere
 2. i never leave basses in the car, i think i have only left gear in the car overnight once whilst on tour, and back then we had a van and a pickup with blacked out load area. when packing away or unloading at gigs there is always someone watching the cars and we don't pack away until we are ready to leave. that said, i believe my insurance does have an unattended car option, but i bet it's loaded with clauses before they would pay out.
 3.
To be fair, I added that emoticon onto the list as the phrase had popped up a fair bit and was starting to be used out of context as a bit of a "BC phrase". No illwill intended at all
i think it's brilliant
 4. if you are going to release a single project through the distribution sites, i don't see the need for a label to be honest. unless you are looking to promote and work with other bands i don't see what you will achieve by doing it.
 5.
The question was more directed at whether or not you care about the music your band presents to that degree.
I get what you are saying here, but IMO, the clip was the wrong way of getting the point across. In the clip he comes across as an arrogant prick, genius or not there are better ways of dealing with situations. If i've been at a gig where a band member has cocked up (believe me, it's happened), I will highlight what went wrong and work out how we can avoid it in future, because it isn't always the fault of the individual. We all care about the music we perform, and how it's performed, but Buddy's way ins't the way of dealing with it when it doesn't go right. you'd probably find yourself in front of a court for harassment if you acted that way these days.
 6. I worked for a guy who used to act like that, trust me blue, after several years you don't keep motivated and working on your craft, you end up in a cocktail of pills. I get he was a top player and his band needed to be sh*t hot (and no doubt they were top professionals if they were working with him), but no matter how much you care about a performance there is no need to shoot people like that down, especially in front of others. Where you see passion, I see bullying.
 7.
Seriously, was that intended to be offensive ?
it was so offensive that the thread just died off...... until you came here with your two posts and dragged it up from the basement...
 8.
There simply isn't such a thing as a future-proof audio interface. The only way to do it would be to stop updating any of your software including the OS.
this. if you are a windows user however, windows 10 can make use of windows 7 drivers, so options are a bit wider, but as operating systems change drivers will change, and a manufacturer wont continue to provide free drivers when they can charge for new compatible kit.
 9.
Not sure I would get why you'd rehearse every week if those rehearsals weren't entirely about putting in new ideas and numbers. That is a sure-fire way to get stale for starters. It also depends how free or able the players are in bringing in new ideas... The time to drop a track is when that stops happening ... But it really depends how the band is set up and who is playing.
agreed. if you are playing the same songs every gig, and gigging regularly, you shouldn't need to practice that often
 10.
+1 for the Rode NT-1A (condenser) and SM57 (dynamic) as good all-rounders.
+1 to this, a 57 is a very handy mic to have around
 11. i told you yesterday it had great tone and a great colour! be careful on here, they don't trust guitarists
 12.
I've been on the other end of this as a drummer - the band demanded that I buy cases to transport my drums in, because "it looks unprofessional when you walk into a venue without them in cases". Are any of you that anal?
that has never bothered me, as long as the kit is looked after and tuned how you transport it is down to you. i have found it easier to help drummers who have their stuff in cases, but wouldn't insist a drummer buy cases it if the kit itself was fine and transportable. all i ask off people is that their gear is gigworthy and working, and that they transport their own gear. most of acting like a pro more comes down to attitude than actual gear.
 13.
Well, the alleged 'Sugababes' should have definitely called it a day!
haven't they come full circle now tho and got the original members back together?
 14.
Welcome to the forum, K450B. Come on into the forum and be condescending and impatient, that's cool.
ha! i thought that too
 15. bands are quite often a revolving door. my view is that as long as there is a core of a band left, like one or two of the founding and writing members crack on. the only time this doesnt apply of course, is if a massively key cog or massive character in the band leaves... for example, queen without freddy mercury is almost a parody of itself now, and thin lizzy without phil to me isn't thin lizzy. but then it is all opinion really, some people may prefer new line ups to older ones. at the end of the day it's all about the music.
 16. whilst i havent decided to go with stands (space reasons as much as anything), i took advantage of a studio spares clear out and have ordered a set of Auralex isolation pads, which im hoping will have a tonal improvement. we shall see.
 17.
I'm a gigging musician. Playing in a band to an audience is the whole reason I do this.
same. unless im in a band i don't play generally unless im working on solo music
 18.
One of these days one of these threads which sound incredibly useful from the title surely has to be applicable to originals bands. Alas, my wait continues...
i feel you, but if you stick with this one long enough it will turn into a debate about one band type over the other soon enough.
 19.
I do find it a little disturbing that most of you guys seem to regard a covers gig as requiring a slavish, note perfect, feel-perfect version of The Original Record. Really hope I am reading this one wrong. In any case, when I play covers, I try to sort of pay hommage to the original, but never follow anything note for note. In 99 cases out of 100, the guy who did the original recording has never played it twice the same. For me, that is where the fun is on any gig.
for me not at all. i respect people who play in covers bands... that is their choice and works for them, but for me i would rather try something new (good or bad) than pay homage to something that has been done. there will always be a place for covers bands, but a lot of us just feel we need to be at the birth of a song, rather than revamp it in a later life is all.
 20.
I've only seen that type of response with bands that are famous. Blue
so you are saying it's not possible for a local band to write good songs that people pay money for and go to gigs to sing along with? i've been in small scale originals bands that have still sold records, sold merch, signed autographs and had people follow us from show to show singing our songs. we were very much not famous, just 4 guys who wrote catchy songs and put on a good tight show. contrary to your beliefs, you can start a band from scratch, play shows and actually have people enjoy it and pay money for your efforts.
 21.
Do originals bands usually play weddings in the UK? In the States 90% of the wedding business goes to DJs and 10% to function bands. Blue
i don't think it's too dissimilar here to be honest, but sometimes people just like something different. personally i can't see the standard wedding crowd reacting to an originals band as they would a covers band, but when it comes to weddings its a very personal thing.
 22.
I'm not even that old and I'm bitter and jaded already...
i'm only 32 but i'm the same haha to be fair, if i was in a band that had ambitions to go for it i still would, but the older you get the harder it is to find other people with that drive.
 23.
But there is something extra special about getting a great audience reaction to playing a song you've written yourself.
+1 it's even more special when you get people who come along and sing it back to you
 24.
At this point in my life I am fortunate enough to not have to worry about getting paid for music... In fact I spend far far more on gear, rehearsals, getting to gigs etc. than I could ever hope to get back. But I'm cool with that...bass playing for me is my hobby, a distraction from work and the general stresses of life. I'm never happier than playing something I've had a part in creating to an audience. I only play originals... and also only originals where I am in total control of ALL my bass parts... I will never play in a project where what I play is dictated to me. I can't think of anything worse than standing on a stage in front of people playing basslines someone else has written... does nothing for me. As a result of being zero compromise on the control thing I have had to be more flexible on some other aspects of the bands I play with. Type of music, location and time of rehearsals / gigs etc. Since I realized what is really important to me, I've hooked up with some great guys playing types of music I'd never even thought about... I'm having the most fun I have had in bands these last couple of months. Music takes all sorts though and if covers float your boat then so be it... no-one is right, no-one is wrong, we are all different and want different things from music / bands. As long as your getting what you want from it (money or enjoyment, or both) stick with it life is full of s**t and it's important to make time where you can for the things you like doing
this is pretty much my view. music is my hobby and i find it more fulfilling having a say in the construction of songs and having my own control over what lines i play and where we play them. if i had the choice between a long running covers band and a number of short lived originals bands, i'd go with that every time.
 25.
This thread is hilarious! Or perhaps just typical. We bemoan the demise of rock'n'roll. We bemoan young people not playing 'real instruments'. We bemoan a lack of new blood on the live scene. Then when all three come along at once, we pick over their logistical arrangements like a bunch of accountants (no offense to accountants). "I hope I die before I get old" Etc...
because we are all old, jaded and wish we had the youngsters care free attitude
