1. Just had the answer to my first question, yes we have active electronics. There are several possibilities: failed capacitor, failed integrated circuit, failed potentiometer even when the other concentric one works. I suspect the most probable culprit are a failed solder joint - even if it looks good, or a very fine strand of wire causing a short circuit. Post pic of electronics please, I will then go compare with my Warwick Active and if I can will make some suggestions how to test.
2. Commiserations - I did one once, it was as if I had never played bass before with songs I did not know, it was bad, very bad (no alcohol involved as mitigation either) - luckily band forgave me
3. Me neither, look at the large heat sink, listen to the silence since there is no fan. Enjoy the benefits of circuit boards with large tracks and full size components. If it goes wrong then it can be repaired at little cost. This is a steal for someone.
4. Oh my, why is Essex so far away. Having owned a fair bit of peavey kit since 1981 I agree "Much louder than contemporary amps with the same spec." .
5. Will you now be know as 'Andy' or 'Jack'? or 'Peter; (let's see who gets that last Gibson reference)
6. Vagabonds of the Western World - Thin Lizzy circa 1973 - bass tone to die for...... I have owned one, however given the current climate of R** I*** C*** am not likely to again.
7. Wonder if J Bruce (bass player of some repute) would be sacked from band for using stool. As a bass player of a similar age I understand where you are at. My saviours have been Warwick Corvettes and a Peavey milestone. They seem to weigh next to nothing and stiil sound good. Sitting down I still use Kramer Alu neck bass, but it is heavy to play standing up. Search for the lightweight bass....
8. Agree with Bluejay, the passive pickups on my Rockbass corvette were so so, active circuit on German fretless corvette gives a good boost. I changed the passives to Dimarzio humbucking jazz bass pickups. A corvette with Dimarzio P bass pickup would be something else in my dreams....
9. Bought some strings from Andy - arrived pdq, good price, good comms, wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again! regards Francis
10.
And again I'll ask - why on Earth would Hall take action over the sale of a genuine used Rickenbacker?
As suggested earlier, this tactic would help sales on new ones - in the short term. Would be a strange way to operate though.
11. There may be a legal right to stop sales of 'copies' or genuine basses. There may not be, I am not a lawyer. There may be (or not be) DMCA issues even though this is USA legislation. In reality legal intimidation is a serious matter and can be used as a systematic form of abuse - BC (sic real people, with families, homes, livelihoods) can not afford the time / risk / money / emotional wellbeing / loss of BC to endure such attack(s). Determining what is genuine is yet another minefield and as alluded by others there may be pseudo legal challenges to stop sales of genuine basses. Fighting such challenges is wearing, expensive and futile. I fully support BC on the stance taken. I used to own a RIc bass, I quite like them, I can easily afford one, will I buy another - never. Go figure.
12.
I'll repeat. Best p pickup out there.
Is neck and neck (pardon pun) with G&L MFD p bass type pickup, they are very similar (I have both, with both basses on TI flats). You will not be disappointed
13. Very pleased with the one I have on my Kramer, certainly are high output.
14. What a super bass. How times and fashions change - I bought my 58 EB2 for £80 and sold it for £160. Seems unreal now..... the late 70s were unreal looking back, Marshall 100W, Hiwatt 100s , 200s dirt cheap, all passed through my hands. At least I tried them.
15.
...... So I decided my favourite was my Fender P. I stuck some TI flats on it, and just use the one bass. I've been amazed at how much better my playing has got, and how easily I can translate ideas onto a familiar fretboard. I can also get an incredible amount of different tones through fingers and the one tone knob. ...
I agree with the above so much (substitute G&L and Kramer P type basses for Fender). Even worse, I now find that with the right strings really cheap basses can be very good - Peavey milestone III I have (came with a hiscox case) is very good. Nice kit is nice but these days I find cheap kit is pretty good for most situations.
16. Kit is such good value at the moment, money in the bank / building society is just losing value with low interest rates. May as well put in something tangible and have enjoyment from it. Is great fun having a new bass every so often as I cycle through them.
17.
Ha ha, Corona is my guess mate
Being of a similar generation I did not realise they glued them in with fizzy pop....
18. Pragmatically the shop would probably offer to repair unless you reject bass as not of merchantable quality. Rejecting can be quite difficult as I found out when my 2013 Honda CRV developed a major engine whine at 5000 miles. As above the repair is superglue and dead easy to do. Yes loose ferrules are disappointing, shows a lack of quality control somewhere.
