My T-40 doesn't have those.
I don't know, pop out for a couple of hours, sit down to munch on my sandwich and the pair of you. . . . . They are an index mark for the volume and tone. The cutter removes the top layer of black material and reveals the white. The "10" on the dial lines up with it when on full. The later ones didn't have that feature. Cheers.
  2. This is Jon's (Bassassin) more rare '79 "Three Piecer" and having looked at it, it would appear even more rarer!! If you look at my '79, you can just see the centre section, which is just slightly wider than the string ferrules. Jon's has a much wider center section, which I have never come across before. A very nice looking bass, indeed!! This shot is very well suited to Gear "Porn" - His tittle for the pic is . . . . . . FULL FRONTAL
Hi. Here's my '79. Such a lot of life in this one. Full sound, harmonics all over the place, deep thud when required, bright and snappy when needed. Lovely to play, brings a smile to my face every time I pick it up. This is one of the more rare "Three piecer" bodies. The "fur" background is is a "lend from a friend" - what he has it for, I'm not sure, Mmm?
3.
Our investments are finally starting to pay off boys I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a rail. Just to have the full set.
I've still got it. . . . . . How long can you resist?????? All the juicy details here. . . .Cocco's Rail to be.
By all means post the pics Eric! That Tanburst's an absolute stunner, & in a way I'm not too surprised at the price given the finish & condition. T-40s seem to be on the up at the moment, one like mine only quite a lot rougher went for £340 a week or two ago. Definitely hanging onto mine - it really is a delight to play. By the way Eric, completely forgot to get those Tele Thinline bits off to you - I'll get it sorted! J.
Jon, thanks - would be nice to get that one all finished. Will send you a pic when it's done. Will post the pics of your "Three Piecer" in the Porn section. It's a cracker!! Cheers.
  4.
First of all, some pics for the porn stash: J.
Jon, you have a lovely looking bass - if it's OK with you, I'll stick the pics up on the T-40 section in Gear Porn. Did anyone on here get this T-40 Tanburst I know a couple of you were looking at it. Cheers.
  5.
Well, it's not all a bed of roses - mine needs a refret. At least, a partial one. The first 4 frets are pretty ground down and buzz a tad too much. On a bass with less grunt to their pickups it probably would be a problem, of course The only thing is, I'm guessing a refret would affect it's value? Or is a refret better than clapped out frets in the long run? Mind you, apart from that the T-40 is still the perfect bass for me
Jerry, Hi. I have a "Road Warrior" T-45, with the first 7 frets almost down to the board - it still played, sort of, before I took the neck off. When I get a few hours spare . . . . . I shall refret the first 7. I did the first 5 on my EBO, years ago and you can't tell it's been done. Find a good luthier down your way - recommendation is the best way to choose - anyone know of somone in the South East? Selcting the correct wire is very important - get him to do the first 5. IMHO it will hardly put a scratch on the value, if it is done correctly. Jon, Hi. The earlier Toaster models like yours are not quite as bright or as powerful as the blade pups. In almost all occasions, I gig with two of the same era - amp adjustments to suit. Yours will definately be warmer and more mellow than a later blade. They are String Sensitive - brighter strings will bring out a lot more varied tones. What is your ideal/favourite sound? Cheers.
  6.
There's a very nice sunbust lined fretless T-40 for sale here... Has Eric got one of these...?
Yep, bit battered, nothing like the one for sale and to my shame. . . . . . . I have recently robbed the front pup and the pup select switch from it, to help a fellow owner out. I hope to put it all right at a later date. Nice to see you are still enjoying your "T", Jerry - keep on rockin'! Cheers.
  7. Bought a "Well used" bass from Ryan, which is as described. Packing is almost THE BEST JOB I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! You could have dropped this think from the Blackpool Tower and done a gig with it the same night!!!!!!!!!!!!! Top man. Cheers.

    gibson ebo
hi guys and girls so my dad has had a 1969 ebo under the bed for many years and i have never been interested in it untill today i picked it up dusted it down lowerd the action and its amazing lol its also had a rear pick up fitted by john birch in the 70s to give it a jazz sound .just wanted to see everyones views on these many thanks
I've got a '63, with the black plastic pup cover - yours would be chrome. I've had it since 1978, and bought to rescue and use. Whatever I did with it, whatever amp I tried, the sound was like a speaker with two pillows and a duvet strapped to it!! To my shame I fitted a Precision pick-up to it, in order to brighten it up. If it is the John Birch pup I think it is, at least your dad's looks sort of EB3 ish. In my defence, I have seen others with the same conversion, so I am not the only one to have done it!! Any chance of a pic? Cheers.

  10.
Sorted, many thanks to Toasted Win!
Got to be the bargain of the year! A really great bass - lovely neck.
  11.
Good price and it looks in nice condition. Interesting, he's clearly done his research and therefore knows full well it's demonstrably not a Matsumoku. But he still can't resist the lure of bullsh!t. D'you think that's an Ebay thing? J.
Jon, Hi. Got mine fixed up. What a lovely tone! A little bit of a diver but the sound makes up for it. This would be a nice bass for someone looking for an Old School sound. May even be me, if I can't resist the temptation.
  12. Hi. I have an easyish solution and an extra tool in the armoury. Boss EQ20. I take all sorts to gigs - tones and volumes are different. The Boss has a "Direct" a "Manual" and a "Memory" Not need to swap leads or touch the amp. Set the two basses up in rehearsal P in direct, J in manual, or if you have other basses you want to use, it has several memories. Plug it in and away you go. Cheers.
  13. Nice! Aria's of that period set up nicely. Full job would be to take the strings off, oil the board and polish the frets. General clean up, sqirt of switch cleaner (not WD40) if required - leave alone if pots are quiet. TR cover off and key ready. Next thing is optional but I generally always do it - put a slight "back bend" using a straight piece of box section ( I can explain more fully if required) and back the adjuster off a quarter turn and then, if it is as far out as you say, perhaps pick up the quarter turn and then add 3/4 more. put the old strings on - tune and leave for a while. Sight down the neck and you are looking for a very slight bend. If so, great - if still too much back off the strings and add another 1/4 - tune and check When you are happy with that, you can adjust the bridge to get a base setting. New strings, check the action, then set the intonation with a tuner - too sharp at the 12th saddle back, too flat, saddle forward. My Aria basses are set to around 2.3 to 2.5 at the twelfth and play like a racing snake. Great Basses, I've got one but perhaps a little more "well used" than yours seems to be. Good luck.

  16.
Lovely Basses! I may be parting with my sunburst one shortly if anybody is interested. I fancy trying a Jaguar if anybody fancies a swap! Will.
Arjimlad, Hi. Never had one of these myself but my mate has had one from new. Absolutely Luvverly! I have a Mexican Stu Hamm that is very similar - very fast to play. Will, I've had a Jaguar - IMO I would hang onto yours.

  18. I used to be into Classic Cars - I'm almost cured! When I started to build up my original collection, I thought it would be cheaper pastime than the cars - buying them, maintenance, tax, insurance, trips to loads of shows, and misc expenses. . . . . . . It isn't!! Total value £12 10/ 6d Hope Mrs Eric doesn't read this, the housekeeping will rocket to Twelve Bob a week!!
  19. Very nice. Genuine and original, all round. Good luck with the sale. Cheers.

I never met the man, and never had any direct communication but was always interested in his input and he clearly had a lot of respect here. I type this with a lump in my throat, so somewhere down the line he has touched my life. A great lost. Very Sad. Sad Eric.
  21. Have a Saturday morning bump on me. A very fair price, IMO. Not the best of nick, but rare finish and rare RW neck, with an original case. Bit of TLC will have this ol' fella tidied up a bit and thumping away for another 30 years! Cheers.
  22. Hi. As I said in the T-40 section, I have the electrics of one of my Toasters off the bass at the mo' Can you get some clear shots of the wiring and post them. If the issuue is simple, I could either put you right or you could send the complete plate for me to have a look. The only soldering for you to do would be back to the jack socket. Would love to help - not nice being T-40less.
  23. Welcome. Still got the T-40? If you have, stick a pic in Gear Porn - T-40 Section. Cheers.
  24.
If only my T40 had a back cover! In order to do any wiring I have to take the strings off and the scratchplate off as well as the pickups. My pickup surrounds, as Brian Blessed would say, are TOAST!
Oooops, Sorry - What I meant to say was. . . . . front/top/scratchplate, there is no access from the back! If you want a pic, let me know. Cheers.
