1. So good, I bought another one! If you ever see one of these, Aria Laser Heritage, give it a go - £ for £ one of the best. Gigged the one on the left on Saturday for the first time since February. Nice.
  2. Hi. Some nice Classic Ibanez - keep 'em coming! Here's the brother of the other one I posted. Simple but very effective actives. I am fixing up my battered old blazer, thanks to some parts that Jon collected for me. Thanks Jon, soon you'll get to see the old beast. Cheers.
  3.
Hi guys, after reading through the forum sections(which has got me back into wanting to practising for hours again)ive decided that im gonna sell/trade the T40 for something better suited.Im into learning Metallica stuff and suchlike so looking for something modern looking and lighter. Anyway heres what i have,Peavey T40,when i removed the scratchplate there was a date and signature under it stating 3/13/79 but the serial number 00364045 doesnt suggest its 1979 from what ive found,it has a few marks on the body(not bad ones),when i bought it i put it into a local shop to restring and check it over and the guy said it was in excellent nick for its age.It has one problem though as one of the toggle switches has snapped off(reason i had the scratchplate off)and i havnt replaced it yet as hoping to source out a matching original one,all the control knobs are smooth with no crackling etc and i fitted a new input jack. All in all i think its better suited to someone whos played bass for longer and is wasted on a beginner, havnt really got a price in mind so open to offers of cash/another bass, cash either way. EDIT-Apologies it seems rules here are a price is needed, It owes me £270 so thats the ballpark figure im aiming at.....trade still welcome though.
Hi, Welcome aboard. Shame you are moving on your T-40, in years to come you'll be looking for another one and thinking wow, if only I could get one now for the £270 I sold mine for, all those years ago!! 00364, is a 1979. The switches are cheap enough to buy - I have some spares and don't take long to fit. Good luck with your sale/trade. Cheers.
  4.
I think FlatEric has one, so he may be able to say how much they usually sell for. Very nice bass!
Yes indeedy!! As with anything, depends how much you are willing to pay. I have seen one or two go for around £5-600 over here (USA cheaper) which were in fair nick - you'd pay less for something that had been thrown around and more for a "Mint & Boxed" This one has been up before and I posted stuff about mine then, so I won't go into any lengthy detail but they are a nice bass - rehearsed with mine last night. I also have the later one, in a sort of grey/blue colour, which is a more Fenderish shape. I am always curious about how values are put onto anything like this. Many are very happy to rush out and buy the latest this or that, or a re-issue, or Artist limited edition and pay more than double what this guy is asking. With something like this, it depends how much you want one. Made many years ago - a talking point - something different on stage - different sounds - away from the herd. If you paid £1200 for a re-issue or Artist edition, there are loads out there - to the World and his Dog, look the same as all the others and in some cases, you would struggle to recoup half of your outlay. It is a nice one, could probably do with a gentle set up but it is perhaps a little above what your average Joe is willing to fork out, as it doesn't even have the original case. I'm sure another one will turn up but as Shaggy says, the values are creeping up as people are re-discovering them or, just fancy something different from "The Norm" Let's put it this way - when I turn up with a Jazz or a "P", sit down and have a quiet beer in the interval. Take something like the Magnum. . . . . . . all of a sudden, a handful of bass players want to buy you a beer! Nuff said. Cheers.
  5. I have a Shark - really nice neck profile and so light, you would hardly know it was there. Nice! I also have a Groove, which is one of my favourites. Even Nicer! Cheers.
  6.
Hey fellow BCers. I while ago I toyed with the idea of staring a blog which would comically and nostalgically look back at my life of basses - the equipment and the events so to speak. I never really took it further. . .
Great thread! I had the same idea, started and then realised that to do it properly, it was going to take a long time. I decided to stick with it but have found my postings have been sparadic, to say the least! I think the idea of a seperate section would be good, so if you want to keep up with the stories, you don't have to hunt around to find them. If you want to have a look at my humble attempt, look here. Flat Eric's Bass & Guitar Collection - Blog At the rate I am going, it is going to take a while to work my way through it, so don't expect too much to happen. Some of the posts took me 3 lunches - saved as a draft and then published. absolutpepper, I look forward to more. Right, lunch over - back to the grind. Cheers.
  7.
It was a gamble !!! I knew it had been in the shop for a while and they need to turn stock around. It was marked up when I first saw it at £399, when I saw it on Saturday is was up for £325. I just thought I'd make a cheeky offer of £290, the guy went to check with his boss and said they would take £295 !! I ummm'd and arrrd for a bit and said I'd think about it..... then he said he throw in a hardcase (as new) that another bass was sitting in. It was to good an offer to walk away from
I've got one of these - almost identical - different pups. Nearly sold it but chose to hang onto it after fitting a new battery. The old one worked OK but what a difference a new one made! I assume yours is active - it doesn't have the Urge details on the head. 32", light as a feather and very fast to play. Sure you will enjoy it. Cheers.
  8. My main interest, as some of you are aware, is the Classic Peavey era - The "T" series. I also have one of these. ..Peavey Zodiac I have just started playing it again after a long term loan to a friend, who has done a couple of gigs with it. Very nice to play and well worth a punt at this sort of money.
  9.
hi chaps! i got a chance to get one T 45 from '82. what would you say what is it worth?
Difficult one! They are a rarity anyway. If it was in the UK, cheapest around £225-£250 ish and at the high end of cost around £400. I got one for less than the the figures above but perhaps wished I had gone a little further, as mine is . . . . . Well Worn!! Ah well, nothing that two whole days of work can't sort out!! Won't do that again, I hope!! Different to the T-40 - did post something somewhere that described the T-45 but can't remember where. There is a Volume, a coil select/tone (as per T-40) and a second tone. Genuinely, some good sounds can be had out of it. When these were made as a single pup T-40, they were roughly the same price, not cheaper, as you would think. Cheers.
  10.
Aha! Any ideas what it's there for?
This is the reply from "a man in the know" "It is common to find that on T-40s and T-60s. Chip said it was placed there to keep the neck heel from slipping". Cheers.
  11.
Aha! Any ideas what it's there for?
Errrrm, No! As you know, I have quite a few of these and first discovered it when I took a neck of one of my earlier ones - around the same year as yours. I had a bit of an accident with some Guiness - hit my glass on the head and a dark brown trickle ran all the way down the neck. Managed to stop it going over the body but some went into the neck socket - Euch I think the fact that it was stapled on made me think it was a factory thing. Over the years I have come across the same thing at least three times. I'll ask someone who may know.
  12.
I'm taking my T-40 apart today to give it a bit of a clean and an overhaul. This is the first time I've done this and I've found a feature which I'm not sure about. Do the pics show evidence of bodging, or are these details standard? The brownish-red strip seems to be made of fine sandpaper.
Jerry, Hi - don't panic, that is standard Peavey - I have come across this several times - always the same material. The pots do turn easily - if anyone is pulling them out and they are good. . . . . . I'll 'ave em! Cheers.
  13.
I'm sure most of you know what it is like - work for ages on one thing then someone leaves or the whole band implodes. Well that's been the score for me for at least 18 months since the covers band I was in went all wobbly!
I know what that's like - me and the singer in our band lost a bass player (I played the Devil's instrument at the time) and started to look for another. Gave up and got back together 26 years later, him still singing and me now on a much more respectable instrument. Hope you have a great time, it's what playing is all about. Go and give it to 'em
  14.
This Yamaha SB 500 is worthy of an entry here for a couple of reasons: it certainly ain't crap, and it appears to be Ishibashi trying to move it on! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Used-YAMAHA-SB-500-B...=item414ffb1ec2
These are a very nice bass. Anyone interested would be very pleased with it - and SO rare! I have not seen one, other than mine for a long time - my wife thinks it's one of the "prettier ones". Ahh, bless her. Mine had a tone pot issue and the other pots were a bit naff (old age) so I went to swap them for new ones and now .......................... buzzing and humming. Not played it for ages but must get it sorted - may have to ask The Bass Doc where I have gone wrong!
  15.
shouldn't have read this...
Me neither.
  16.
Never seen one of those before. Remarkable. Jon.
Stunned! What did you say??? Jon, you must be slipping.
  17. Hi. I have one of these - dark metallic green and I have several other fretless to match it against. In my opinion, give the pots a quick squirt and leave it alone. You could spend a lot on it, more than the bass is worth, for not a huge gain. Mine is at a friends, at the mo' - he is gigging it. He turned down the offer of a USA Jazz, a Guild, a lovely sounding Peavey Foundation and a couple of 70's copies, in favour of the Yam. A local teacher, who has several high end basses had a go and was VERY surprised how good it was. If you fancy something different, perhaps try some others but for access at the high end of the neck, which is a cracker - so easy to play - the lightness and the range of sounds from the standard pups, you may have a long search. Save your $$$$$ and enjoy it the way it is. There, I've had my 2/- worth - 10p for the younger amongst you!!
  18. Aha!! Westone For Sale! If you are buying a new "P" you'll not be wanting The Rail?? Oooooo, the temptation! Good luck with the sale.
  19. For what it's worth . . . . I have a R/H 600, same as this one and it is a cracking bass. The right balance and feel, not heavy, luvverly neck, nice punchy sound with the Stadium Elites I have on it. This is from the earlier series, not the later Korean make. I this was R/H, I'd have it in a flash. One thing to remember, the string spacing is closer together - more like a Ric than a Fender but only takes a few minutes to get used to. Looks a really nice one. Go on, you know you want to!!
  20. Posted these before but as there is a Garden theme going on here, I'll join in. and finally, this was taken on the lawn, so this one counts too.
  21. Nice one! What a moment in time. Should remember the event for the rest of your life. Well pleased for you. On another note . . . . . . . Just watched your YouTube. Warwick thing . . . . . . . . . I'm off to sell all my basses now!!! Thank you very much indeed. . . . . . I thought I was getting on fine and then I saw that! All I can say is "I am not worthy" Good luck, enjoy every split second of it. Cheers.
  22.
i didn't...
Shame. Went Cheap ish in my opinion, for the quality of bass it is. Very Cheap if it had the original Hiscox/Status case. Better luck next time.
  23. Just put these in another post - thought they might be at home here. Some of the finest from The Land of The Rising Sun. Nice!
  24. Pink is in!! Bought mine some time ago to go with my Pink 57 P. You play all 50's/60's when you strap it on. It's Luvverly! Go on, you know you want to.
  25.
Many thanks all. FlatEric, that seems to have done the job, although I have had to wind the E string poles down to subterranian levels to get balance! More fiddling to do, but heading in the right direction... ...next, I will work out how to operate the 'reply' function on this site properly! Cheers
Hi. Glad it worked out. I have other basses with Di Marzio type pick-ups and none of the poles are set level. One of my amps is an Ashdown, with a VU meter - I set them up by pulling open strings, then fifth fret, over and over again and watch the VU, as well as listening to the volume. make adjustments on the poles and Bingo! I also have basses with standard P & J pick-ups and all of them have some slight weakness somewhere. The adjustment really does make a difference and as you say, the E is screwed way down but at least you have a equal sound. Cheers.
