Aha! Any ideas what it's there for?
This is the reply from "a man in the know" "It is common to find that on T-40s and T-60s. Chip said it was placed there to keep the neck heel from slipping". Cheers.
Aha! Any ideas what it's there for?
Errrrm, No! As you know, I have quite a few of these and first discovered it when I took a neck of one of my earlier ones - around the same year as yours. I had a bit of an accident with some Guiness - hit my glass on the head and a dark brown trickle ran all the way down the neck. Managed to stop it going over the body but some went into the neck socket - Euch I think the fact that it was stapled on made me think it was a factory thing. Over the years I have come across the same thing at least three times. I'll ask someone who may know.
I'm taking my T-40 apart today to give it a bit of a clean and an overhaul. This is the first time I've done this and I've found a feature which I'm not sure about. Do the pics show evidence of bodging, or are these details standard? The brownish-red strip seems to be made of fine sandpaper.
Jerry, Hi - don't panic, that is standard Peavey - I have come across this several times - always the same material. The pots do turn easily - if anyone is pulling them out and they are good. . . . . . I'll 'ave em! Cheers.
I'm sure most of you know what it is like - work for ages on one thing then someone leaves or the whole band implodes. Well that's been the score for me for at least 18 months since the covers band I was in went all wobbly!
I know what that's like - me and the singer in our band lost a bass player (I played the Devil's instrument at the time) and started to look for another. Gave up and got back together 26 years later, him still singing and me now on a much more respectable instrument. Hope you have a great time, it's what playing is all about. Go and give it to 'em
This Yamaha SB 500 is worthy of an entry here for a couple of reasons: it certainly ain't crap, and it appears to be Ishibashi trying to move it on! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Used-YAMAHA-SB-500-B...=item414ffb1ec2
These are a very nice bass. Anyone interested would be very pleased with it - and SO rare! I have not seen one, other than mine for a long time - my wife thinks it's one of the "prettier ones". Ahh, bless her. Mine had a tone pot issue and the other pots were a bit naff (old age) so I went to swap them for new ones and now .......................... buzzing and humming. Not played it for ages but must get it sorted - may have to ask The Bass Doc where I have gone wrong! -
shouldn't have read this...
Me neither. -
Hi. I have one of these - dark metallic green and I have several other fretless to match it against. In my opinion, give the pots a quick squirt and leave it alone. You could spend a lot on it, more than the bass is worth, for not a huge gain. Mine is at a friends, at the mo' - he is gigging it. He turned down the offer of a USA Jazz, a Guild, a lovely sounding Peavey Foundation and a couple of 70's copies, in favour of the Yam. A local teacher, who has several high end basses had a go and was VERY surprised how good it was. If you fancy something different, perhaps try some others but for access at the high end of the neck, which is a cracker - so easy to play - the lightness and the range of sounds from the standard pups, you may have a long search. Save your $$$$$ and enjoy it the way it is. There, I've had my 2/- worth - 10p for the younger amongst you!!

For what it's worth . . . . I have a R/H 600, same as this one and it is a cracking bass. The right balance and feel, not heavy, luvverly neck, nice punchy sound with the Stadium Elites I have on it. This is from the earlier series, not the later Korean make. I this was R/H, I'd have it in a flash. One thing to remember, the string spacing is closer together - more like a Ric than a Fender but only takes a few minutes to get used to. Looks a really nice one. Go on, you know you want to!!

Posted these before but as there is a Garden theme going on here, I'll join in. and finally, this was taken on the lawn, so this one counts too.

Nice one! What a moment in time. Should remember the event for the rest of your life. Well pleased for you. On another note . . . . . . . Just watched your YouTube. Warwick thing . . . . . . . . . I'm off to sell all my basses now!!! Thank you very much indeed. . . . . . I thought I was getting on fine and then I saw that! All I can say is "I am not worthy" Good luck, enjoy every split second of it. Cheers. -
i didn't...
Shame. Went Cheap ish in my opinion, for the quality of bass it is. Very Cheap if it had the original Hiscox/Status case. Better luck next time.

Just put these in another post - thought they might be at home here. Some of the finest from The Land of The Rising Sun. Nice!

Pink is in!! Bought mine some time ago to go with my Pink 57 P. You play all 50's/60's when you strap it on. It's Luvverly! Go on, you know you want to.
Many thanks all. FlatEric, that seems to have done the job, although I have had to wind the E string poles down to subterranian levels to get balance! More fiddling to do, but heading in the right direction... ...next, I will work out how to operate the 'reply' function on this site properly! Cheers
Hi. Glad it worked out. I have other basses with Di Marzio type pick-ups and none of the poles are set level. One of my amps is an Ashdown, with a VU meter - I set them up by pulling open strings, then fifth fret, over and over again and watch the VU, as well as listening to the volume. make adjustments on the poles and Bingo! I also have basses with standard P & J pick-ups and all of them have some slight weakness somewhere. The adjustment really does make a difference and as you say, the E is screwed way down but at least you have a equal sound. Cheers.
-
Someone ended up with a very nice bass. Anyone here??
-
If it is the one with the adjustable pole pieces, it's amazing what a difference they make. The pics show one of my basses that had a similar problem, as you can see, there is a big step in the heights but the volume across all the strings is now equal. If they are like these, adjusting the pole heights is more effective than lifting the pups. Cheers.

Breaking a string at a gig - has this happened to you?
FlatEric replied to Clarky's topic in General Discussion
Last Saturday, for the first time ever - tuning the A, Stadium Elite, on my Status. Just went to take it up slightly and the only way I can describe it is sort of a dull "Dong" sound. Made me jump - thought it was something serious until I went to pull the string again. Ouch! Our guitarist has a chuckle at me - "why take two basses, who ever heard of anyone breaking a bass string" I think I might point him to this posting. -
Nice. Very nice. Looks great. Love it?? Cheers.
Seen one of these on ebay - looks interesting, bit rich on the buy it now though - built like a tank! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RARE-Vintage-1978-OV...=item255afce2c5
Hi. I've got one identical to the one listed and a Magnum III, in a smokey blue colour. They are a great bass and I love the sound I get out of it. They are, however, not quite as people see them. They are seen as heavy and all powerful, they are neither. They are not heavy, balance well, nice neck, the pup frame allows you to rest your thumb where ever you choose and with the right strings on, can give some bright sounds. The pick-up have a good range of tones - I have the front one notch down from the back, tones on 7, which gives a bright punch. You can go "all dub" on the front pup, turn the tone right down and away you go. The front pup has a clever facility to "Balance" the strings, as each string has it's own coil. And finally, if you have a precision, or similar, you will have to turn your amp up to bring it to the same volume as the "P" - they are good pup's but judging by my two, they are not "all powerful". Having said all that, great bass - love it to bits - bit of a rarity, so you get all the bass players eyeing it up. See Manual below. Mugnum Manual Cheers.
Very nice example, head repair's well done by the looks - was the head detached or just cracked? Shouldn't take much to get that up to scratch! J.
Just cracked and it looks like it was a long time ago. Was OK when I got it. Think I'll get it sorted and then stick up some pics. Cheers. -

I've stuck in a low bid. Don't feel obliged to not bid on this - i'm skint, so could do without buying it. I know these are highly thought of, and sought after on here; so thought i'd share the love. There is a Status Shark for similar low starting bid on the same page - worth a punt?
Hi. I've got a Shark and a Groove. The Shark is really nice to play, lovely neck, light and a nice tone - not the most powerful but still a cracking bass - "Made in England" The Groove is another thing entirely. One of my true favourites. The right weight, well balanced, great neck Passive + Active. this delivers a real PUNCH with a capital P! Always brings a smile to my face. Was going to gig mine on Saturday but broke the A string during a tune up. There doesn't seem to be much on here about The Groove - can't be many out there or people are trying to keep the secret to themselves. Well worth a punt on either IMHO.
