Build is fantastically good - amazing how good the action is considering the beating it seems to have got over its 31 year lifespan.. Perhaps you should just start a new thread for classic Ibbys on the Gear Porn section.
Sorted. Go to Gear Porn, "Classic Ibanez"
  2. Classic Ibanez - '74 to '85 As there are a lot of Classic Ibanez out there, I thought I would start a section for all Ibanez Basses made between 1974 to 1985, or thereabouts? I'll kick off with a couple. First up is something you don't see very often and took me ages to find one. Great "Piano-Like" tones and surprisingly easy to get on with. The next is again, something that took me a long while to find and almost as long to find a case that fitted!! There, that sould get us started. Fire away!!
  3.
My Ibanez Roadster RS800 BS 1979 !! So, after endless dramas about paying for this guitar in the first place, then thinking it was maybe too heavy for me and having some trouble with string tone, I decided to spend a small amount of time fixing it up. I cleaned it up, added new knobs, shielded the control compartment with copper foil (as it was prone to buzzing when near the amp), swapped the strings for DR Extra Life Red Devils, bought a new extra comfort strap (plus Schaller locks), set intonation and string height, and tweaked the pickup height. It now sounds absoultely beautiful - A real punchy Phil Lynott sound Here it is in all its glory:
Great Bass, I have one the same as yours - Very Punchy. Hang on to it, they're not too many around. I Love all the the Classic Ibanez, I tried to find an Ibanez section in Gear Porn but haven't seen one. Point me in the right direction and I'll put up some Classic Ibanez. Cheers.
  4.
Any New FlatEric?
Sent you a PM. Will try and sort it for you. Cheers.
  5. Mmm, a question often asked, I'm sure. I have a similar thing going and I supose it's not recent. I am lucky enough to have all sorts of things to play but I have learned over the years that £$£$ doesn't always mean something that you can bond with. I have mentioned this in another thread, in the past so sorry if I am repeating myself. I have only ever bought 4 new basses, all of the others are used. I spent quite a lot on one of the first Sunburst Jaguars - just couldn't get on with it. Some of the used ones I enjoy most, were less than £400 but amongst some of my favourties, there are some cracking basses at less than half that and a few at less than that. As always, best thing to do is, pick it up, play it accoustically, stand up with it, is it comfortable, pug it in, fiddle with the controls to get a sound you play play a couple of favourite pieces. Light your fire? Great! If not, move it on. I too, am enchanted with some really nice instruments that cost me very little. Enjoy it.
  6.
+1
+1 - Plus, OOooo Too Heavy!! I had a similar idea and got this bass version Case for 2 basses Thinking it would be easier to move around (got wheels) it's Bl***y heavy carrying it up stairs. Only used it twice! On reflection, it is much easier to handle them individually.
  7.
You are not kidding. That's worth a bob or two. Jon.
Mmm, as you have said that, I did a bit of research. See this. Yi Yi Yi - Destroyer Bass For Sale If only my case was better!!! There isn't much about these, I did see this Destroyer Bass Feature some time ago. I have now found the strap the I was looking for, so I am going to try it out and report back. Any pics of others??
  8.
That's a lovely bass, and like you said, a real rarity. I have a question about the trouble you had finding a case. I was under the impression Epiphone had a hard case for their Explorer basses. Were you aware of these, or were they not suitable?
Hi. Yes, I tried to go down that route but although they were advertised, when I tried to buy one, they were "out of stock". I almost bought an Epiphone Explorer - with a case, just for the case (sell the bass off) but missed it!! I even thought about a keyboard case but thankfully held out for something more practical. I bumped my post in items wanted, several times, when I first joined up but no one could help. So, if you're after one and it comes up for sale, grab it before I do, as a spare!!! The main thing is, I've got one now. Cheers.

  10. Hi. Hope someone can help! This is my Rare Ibanez Destroyer 2495B, 1976 and after searching for the last couple of years, I have found a case that fits it perfectly. Yipee!! So. . . . . I can gig with it now! Well, perhaps. For all you seasoned Firebird players and similar basses, you are no doubt used to it being a little neck heavy. Yes? Well, somewhere I have seen an "S" shaped strap that helps ease the problem and makes it much more stable. The thing is. . . I can't remember who does it/where I have seen it! I think it is a USA product. Any Ideas?? Hoping you can help. Cheers. Anyone else got one? Would love to see some pics.
  11. Hi. Not hard to say but subjective. I have all sorts of things to match it against but to say it is like a Jazz, EBO, Precision, Status, Ric is sort of wide of the mark. I know you are a big fan of the T-40, as am I - how would you sum that up? All I can say is, it is tiny, compared to a T-40, shorter scale - fast - with a whole load of sounds. As I said in one of my posts, it teaches you how important the position of a pick-up is. Same PUP, different position LOTS of different sounds. As a gigging instrument, rare as hens teeth. Cheers.
  12.
This usually happens when I've decided to sell a bass or guitar I've not played for ages. Then I make the mistake of getting it out of the case for one last play........................
Ha! Me too, fatal!
  13.
Hi all, I see many T-40 experts and I have a problem with my T-40. Bridge pickup tone pot is working as a volume pot. It's like all the way in humbucker mode, when I turn it up over seven there is no change to single coil. Neck one is working ok, bridge pickup does not. Another symptom is when pickup selector switch is in bridge possition and out of fase switch "on", the bass does not sound. I have check the wiring several times, comparing with my other T-40 wiring and checking PEAVEY's T-40 wiring diagram and I have only observed that Bridge Tone Pot Capacitator installed on is .044MFD and PEAVEY's T-40 wiring diagram states .033MFD. Could be this capacitaor the source of my problem? Many thanks, Oh! by the way, this is my baby:
Hi. Nice one! Two things to bear in mind, I LOVE these basses and . . . . . . . I'm elctronically blind!!! So, from experience only - some electrical issues can be down to the phase switch. You didn't say if it was like this or it has become like it. I would do a bit of simple elimination. A new phase switch is not to many £$£$ and easy to fit. The phase switch is also a coil selector, on the back PUP only, so may have something to do with it. I will forward this on to someone who may have the answer. Cheers. Flat Eric.

We are a similar set up, Guitar, Bass, Drums and a non playing singer. I will sound a bit empty from a 5 piece but you will soon get used to it and should. from my experience, get tighter than the 5 piece. Chris_B mentioned Sweet home and Free Bird - Yes that's possible as well, we do both of them. You have a few in your list that we do and as we are probably going to be doing the same curcuit, I had beter not spill the beans but what you have looks good. What I would say is, that when you have got used to the three of you, almost anything is worth having a go at, it's quite surprising what can be achieved. All the best in your new band - tip me the nod when you are up and running and I'll come and give you a bit of support. Cheers.
  15.
This has been on the bay at least twice with zero interest. Can it really be that bad? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=200430628720
Good day, oh happy band of musicians, I have the answer! Whilst the good lady was watching something that hadn't really got my attention, I thought I would have a quick shufty, on t'internet. I have a couple of the Older Blazer basses and a mate of mine fancies one in a big way (big fat sound). Anyway, in trying to help him out, I came across this with a Buy it Now of. . . . . . 99p!!!!! So I bought it and. . . . paid for it! Seller wasn't too happy and listed it up again - after I had bought it! It was me who asked him to remove the listing and I tried to sort something out and made a very fair offer but in the end decided to back away gracefully after my offer was declined. So, as I said at the time - if something looks too good to be true, it probably is! Cheers.
  16.
Thread drift: Interesting. If you don't mind me asking, who made it? Hi. Yes, probably the wrong place to put this but it is a Twin, so sort of counts. To make things better how about the Twins below? The maker of the Ric Twin was "Reeve Guitars", Northampton - made in the '90's. It is a great bit of kit, well made but I can find nothing about the maker. If anyone else has any details, I would be grateful if you could share any info. A Congregation of Peavey, a pair of Aria Elite either side of an Odyssey and a pair of Westone Rail Basses. Cheers.
  17.
Here are my twins: Two Fender Jazz (Geddy Lee), although I've sold one now. Also in photograph are two Rickenbacker 4003 basses (I also have a 4001CS and a 4003s5). Mustn't forget the twin-neck twins, a 4080 and a 4080/12.
Ooooo! Real ones! Nice. VERY rare! This is all I can offer
  18.
my thoughts exactly... beat you too it! can't decide though, would it be better if the white t40 had a rosewood neck for extra 'opposites' appeal?
Mmm, White, with rosewood is a very rare thing. I'll race yer!!! Gigging both soon?? Hope so!
  19.
New One! got a bit of a yin-yang thing going on now!
Aha, you got there before I did. GREAT Pics. Absolutely amazing - Very lucky. Gone to whip one of mine out, in tribute to the two "minters" that you have. All the best. Flat Eric.
  20.
i do, i do! i have another black one as well but that'll more than likely go as soon as i find something to trade it for...
Oooo! You have a nice pair of basses in that pic! I shall take the liberty of lifting this image into "Gear Porn" Cheers.
  21. Morning all. It would seem a lot are interested in the "Kitty" "Westone" but no one is up for a rescue bid! So, if nothing happens by Wednesday - Kitty Gets it!! Seriously, if no one fancies it/can run to it, I will not bump it again and perhaps take some really good pics of "The Rail" and post them in Gear Porn, so you can drool over them. While you are doing so, just think of poor old Kitty Westone . . . . . Lonely, in a dark room! If I get round to Twin Necking it, I will post pics - I am warming to the idea.
  22.
Believe me, if it's still around by the time I've managed to sell off a few bits and bobs, I'll save that kitty.
Westone Kitty thanks you - SEE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED!! I was working in the lab late one night. . . . . . . . . . The "IbaRail". . . . More power, More power. . .
  23.
That's like saying, "Give the kitty a loving home or he's going in the river." If only I could afford to save the Westone kitty at the moment...
Save the Westone kitty?!!?
  24. This one IS for sale - sorry about the confusion on the Urge. Any takers, going, going, going back in the case, if not! Might bolt it (carefully) onto a hack guitar and create a twin neck with it, if no one feels like giving it a loving home. Cheers.
  25.
I thought it looked very cheap... had me a bit worried about the value of my urge2! Which by the way was about 1800 euros when I bought it new a couple of years ago, so if you were only looking for £265 I would have made a very silly purchase indeed!
OOeer, opened up a bit of a hornets nest. Sorry. The one you have must be the USA one, two J and one P in the middle. That is a different animal - don't panic, yours would be worth way more! As posted by someone else, this one is made in Mexico, it is a '93/'94 and as I have now found out, quite a nice sounding bass - with a new battery!! I bought it off the first owner, pre-loved or Gumtree and I'm quite sure that I paid around £250 for it - must have got a real bargain so was happy to get the "do ray me" back. I have been PM'd saying they fetch as much as £370, which at the moment is not the issue - I just hadn't realised it's potential and now fancy hanging on to it for a bit longer. I think rather than getting into trouble hijacking the For Sale area, I will try and get some better pics, post it in Gear Porn and let you know how I am getting on with it, and posts can be put there, so no more posts here, please. Thank you. Cheers.
