1.
Question for you T-40 nuts: Why do they put the neck plate on upside down? Seems a bit odd!
Hi. I have often wondered about that. I don't know the real answer but the microtilt hole needs to be at the back and to get the logo as large as possible, it has to sit behing the P. Either that or someone given the task at Peavey made a mistake. I have seen a few fitted the wrong way round, especially on the T-60's. I know of a Peavey man, he may know the answer - I'll get back to you. Cheers.
 2.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd love it if you wrote a book on the history of Japcrap/Rickenfakers mate.

I'd love to do it - but there's only 5 people in the whole world who would buy it!
Well get cracking on it and put me on the list. Seriously Jon, you ought to put finger to keyboard and share the knowlege. I bet there would be a lot of interest from all of us who share a liking for Japan's finest. I know a couple of tame printers!!! Gooo Ooooon, you know you want to!!
 3.
Aye sounds good to me, i can't do weekdays really, nor would most other people i imagine.
From what I can make out, are we talking about June 5th? If the date is made firm, I'm sure a list of names will put up. Cheers.
 4.
Real shame about the headstock break on this, been slightly gaseous towards these for a while. These are a bit of a mystery (which I'd like to think I've solved) on the JapCrap boards - they appear with several thousand different names all over Yurp & the US in both bass & guitar versions. There are several threads about these on the Matsumoku board - Ebayers usually claim them as Mats because of the Hippy Sandwich body/neck - but this is what they really are: http://www.fernandes.co.jp/others/catalog/1978_f_01/27.jpg With a few variations in pickup/controls, it's a Fernandes "Custom Hand". Where do they get these names? According to one of the Japanese vintage sites, Fernandes was built by either Kawai or Tokai at this point. And I've seen an 8-string version of this.... :brow: J.
Jon. I've got one of these. Mine has a break but is has had a solid fix. Bought it ages ago, for too much money if I'm honest, meaning to do something with it. Just liked the look of it. I nearly bought the guitar version but missed it. I have never seen another one. Will get you a pic. You may wish to make me a Gypo offer for it.
 5. For the unwashed, what exactly is a Bass Bash? We are based Loghborough way, so a few of us could make it to Notingham but I'm not clear what goes on. Please enlighten the uninitiated. Cheers.
 6. No apologies required, good to see the marque recognised. Nice looking basses. I think Aria of this period, made some truly great basses and I have a few of them. First up is in my opinion, a very good bass - one that is never put on anyone's want list, probably skip by it when reading the ads but when I got mine, I went and bought another, just to make sure. Punchy, is the best description. The Red one. Just Luvverly The Grey one. Just as Luvverly SB Special II These are nice to play. Stacked Volume and Tone, Series/Parallel - Some great tones and weighs next to nothing. I have some other Classic/Rare Aria but never took any pics. Will try and sort it. Cheers.
 7.
No case unfortunateley ,it's not mint as i said, just player wear,i was toying with idea of a sand and refin on body.Has got one of the circular bits on the back missing where the strings go through body but the retainer bit is still there.just needs a bit of tlc .SOUNDS GREAT.
Nice bass. As Cocco said, these are beasts. Yours is a fairly rare "Three Piecer" - most of the bodies are five pieces like this. Stick a set of Picato 735 40 - 100 on this and away you go. These, in my opinion, are some of the best strings around and suit the "T" down to a "T"!! Good luck with the sale.
 8.
Thinking about moving this old thing on,not mint but sounds lovely plugged in.Am looking for trades only at the minute, possibly a f'less but not sure, open to suggestions. Ash body maple 'board.toasters. Will get some more details/ pics up soon if anyone's interested Cheers. Only pic i've got for now
OK. Temptation is TOO great. Let me have more pics. Case??
 9.
I think I want to get this one pimped as I have no cash to buy another 'proper' precision bass and it plays lovely. Has anyone done this to their Roadstar and what was the result?
Don't Do It!!!!! Please. Pimp something cheep and cheerful. I'll swap you something you can fully pimp up.
 10.
If I get it for my bid, I'll be prepared to ignore a few differences. While there is some "character" to the finish, I didn't spot anything too tragic. Did I miss much?
No. The other one was perfect, apart from the big mark on the neck. This one is good but used and the knobs have been changed . The other one had an original case, I think. Don't know what sort of music you are into but with the right strings on, these basses have a great Piano-like tone. If you want Thud Thud, it's not this one. Good luck.
 11.
Recommended this to a mate, he just brought it round for a going over. Doesn't really need one, looks barely played, except the owner was right handed and had apparently fitted a tug bar. Ancient strings on it, will see how it sounds when I've cleaned and oiled the board, the frets are hardly worn.
New strings and a set-up, you will be pleasantly surprised. Don't know how, don't know why - I have two of these and they play and sound better than something four times the price. Looks nice in white, too.
 12.
Ok i'll start then: My battered Mark III head, sitting atop a Marshall 1555(?) 1x15 folded horn cab, sitting atop another Peavey 1x15. The only reason why I have another rig is that is often too loud for some of our gigs. The bass is a CMI Ned Callan from 1970/72.
Mmm. Nice Peavey - Nice Ned. Lucky bloke, 'nuff said!
 13.
Came across a thread on the Matsumoku.org board discussing "Onyx" guitars, seems to be a Canadian brand. http://www.matsumoku.org/ggboard/viewtopic...f=18&t=4730 The guitar in the pics is the little sibling of the green Seiwa bass: J.
Jon, thanks for your efforts. Top man, as always. I have come across this, which looks very tasty! Same sort of pup layout/distance from bridge as an Odyssey I have and that's one of my favourites. Bet this would growl!! Cheers.
 14.
Well, if you insist: Just flung it together this evening, no strings, not wired it up yet - but I'm quite pleased with this, so far. Hope it doesn't play like a pig! Anyway - back to Rickenbuggery! J.
WOW! What a difference! I had access to one of these, in the late '70's. From memory, a really nice guitar. Don't think they really caught on at the time - not easy to do the rotary selection "on the fly" Perhaps you ought to go into cosmetic surgury What a result!!
 15.
70s Ibanez Artist Bass Yeah, I'd like this, and have bid £305 on it. But, fundamentally even though I'd like to have this, not quite enough (not yet anyhow) to pay the £500 or so it may well go for. Over to you Flat Eric? PS: If anyone's wondering why I'm being open about my bid amount in front of potential competitors, just say that I wouldn't be if I thought I had a realistic chance of winning Edit: These had an ebony neck? Edit2: by "neck" I mean "fretboard" of course
Oooo! Well spotted. You guys must have some sort of special search going on - how on earth do you keep coming up with them?? Mmm, by the look of it, the other one was better, apart from the nasty skank on the side of the neck. The other one had a case and original knobs. I would have a go and see how you do. I shall step aside, on this occasion. Good luck.
 16. Welcome. I have family in Canada, it's a big place - Where are you from? Cheers.
 17.
I've had a few Japanese Jazz copies & I'd say on the whole the necks feel bigger than real Fenders - I think P & J copy necks were likely the same apart from cosmetic variations. I have a pre '75 Ibanez 2366B Precision & the neck's nothing like a real one! J.
Jon, Hi. Some nice additions with the Blazer and the Silver series - would be great to more more added. I'm a big fan of Japanese gear, and have some knowledge but I am constantly amazed that you always manage to have some input on the subject. Where on earth did you get all of this from? Have you taken exams on the subject? Over some period of time you must have done a lot of research. Is it just a genuine interest or are you getting therapy. You can let me know when the doctor has gone. Cheers.
 18.
I had one of the Artist basses when I was a teenager. For sentimental reasons, it would be nice to have one again. However, if it were really important to me, then I'd put my money on the line and simply pay the going rate for one. If it were a really major life aim, then I could go onto the collector sites, and offer £1500 for one, and I'm sure I'd get one fairly quick But, it makes a nice fantasy to think that one day I'll run across one in a pawn shop or at a car boot or where-ever. Also, I must admit I've had daydreams where I win the lottery and I get a known luthier to make me a replica. One think I would like though. Could I have some more detailed photos of yours?
Mr Twit, good day to you. This one? I have posted a couple of others on Gear Porn - Classic Ibanez.
 19. For Mr. A Twit. Hope you like this one. Cheers.
 20.
I sh*t out of using it to record on saturday and used the 75 P instead. When I finished I plugged the RD in just for shits and giggles. It sounded wicked with old strings. Any Advice for cleaning it up (yellowed staining from fags etc..and hard ware). I'm well chuffed
Hi. I know exactly how to clean up your RD. . . . . . . Give it to me for a month or two and I'll send it back all shiny and sparkly, with some new strings on!!! Nice one. If you ever get fed up with it . . . . . . . . .
 21.
Bloody shame about the Artist - but I had an idea it wouldn't go stratospheric. There's no way of knowing how high the other guy's top bid was, though. J.
For what it's worth and to make you feel a little better, Mr Twit - I was looking at this one but didn't got for it. I have got one of these - same finish, in MINT condition - great bass, so I was looking for another. This is mine at a gig, earlier this year - bit of a naff pic, brightened it up as best I can. I asked about the marks on the neck but didn't get any further images, so I brightened up the pic of the neck and it looked quite bad, looked like it had been dragged over a sharp edge, although had been varnished over. So I think whoever has got it, paid a fair ish price - they are as rare as hens teeth. If you are looking for one. . . . . race yer!
 22.
I have it! 'm recording with it tomorrow.
Congratulations. Hope you like it. Let us know how you get on. Loads of sounds - back the amp off a bit, when you plug in - bit of a shock how much they put out. If you love it, great If not I hope you'll put my name at the top of the list - Pike!! Cheers.
 23. I was watching this one, with interest. I've got a "1" in Cherry red and was looking to see if this one would sell, in which case the market for these would be climbing. Not selling mine but is always nice to know the values are holding. Gone!? Looks like it's been withdrawn! Wonder what happened. That was a VERY good example, not many like that!
 24. Pics of Azumi Bass. These are the pics of the Azumi and after a bit of searching, I have come across a guitar that is the brother to my bass. Anyone else have a Siewa anything - Bass, Guitar, accessory? Would be great to hear from you.
 25. Jon, thanks for your response - fountain of knowledge, as usual. It still remains a bit of a mystery - nothing definate. I have a pic of an Azumi, that I found recently, which is on a memory stick that I can't find at the mo'. DOH. When I've got it, I'll post it. Seiwa also has a Rockman association - electonics, so bears out what you say about hardware/elecrical manufacture. Anyone else ever come across "Seiwa"?
