1. I am a big fan of Classic Peavey but don't know much about the later stuff. I have a Yam RBX 270, fretless, which is a really great bass. Several people who have had a go on it have been quite surprised, including a semi-pro and a bass teacher. I have had a go on a fretted, Natural one - just as good. Full sound, Grrreat neck, light - does what it says on the tin. For me, I would keep my eye out for a nice, used 270 around £100. Simples!
2. Just a little bump for Classic Ibanez. There must be a lot more out there. Join in.
3. Hi. Calling on your expertise. I have had this for some time but despite the the avenues I have followed, I can find very little about it. Azumi and Cushin seem to be associated, whoever they are? Lovely to play - I have even left the 4 odd strings on it, that were fitted when I had it, as it gives out a real deep thud. I am currently teaching myself how to write a web site, something I have wanted to do for years - very slow progress - and when I have cracked it, I am going to compile all the info I can find on the stuff in my collection. To do this I am doing as much trawling as I can, to ensure it is accurate. This enquiry will be the first of several. The next one will be a "Parkinson" P from Leigh, in Lancs. Anyone every heard of them? I have only ever seen one other! I will get some pics of that, soon. So, anyone out there have any clues? Cheers.
4. Me TOO. I'm interested! Seriously, I had a Jaguar - got rid of it, just couldn't get on with it. The RD is one to have, at some point in your bass playing life. HUGE range of sounds from the Artist, a Classic. Mine is a Natural, the Sunbursts are less common. The Jag would be worth about £450 ish, I guess, so it would be a bargain. So, either jump at it or share the details!!
5. Don't know much about the newer ones but USA made T-40's, and the Fury & Foundation models keep cropping up. Always worth a look. I was told that a T-40 recently went for less than £180. Apparently it was very well road worn and battered but if it is a sound you are after and not looks, I think that was a bargain!
6.
I almost wish that this cost more than £199! I like the look of it. It owes a lot to the Jazz bass , it looks different around the cutaways. Has anyone here got one, I'd love to get a paper template drawn from the body (still messing with body shapes for my twin neck build)
Hi. I can sort that for you. Great Bass Sooooo easy to play, mines Sunburst, just got a Tort guard from a fellow BC'er. Will get that fitted over the hols. PM me with an address and I will get it off to you. Cheers.
7.
http://www.skylarkguitars.com/skylark-mkii...tar-1691-0.html drooooooooool I want!
OOOOooooo. Just about to sign off and spotted this. Very Different! I'm a sucker for anything unusual. OUCH!
8. A good post. I had a lot of pain in my left hand, a while back - that's how I ended up with all my Short/Medium scale stuff, it was just too much with having to stretch. I may have to have a small operation but I am seeing how it goes at the mo'. Mine is not RSI, I don't think but for a Fiver, I think I would be willing to have a read. Might get myself a copy! Cheers.

10.
I've seen at least one on sale over here for more than 500 quid. Average price in the US seems to be as Eddie says above. Getting one from there over here probably wouldn't be very cheap. Shame really, as a few weeks back there was a US one on sale (at Craiglist I think) that was red - and that in itself is rare enough, from what I can gather.
As an avid collector of these fine instruments, I can help with some info. The cost to ship over here, usually averages out at about £65.00. Then when it gets here, by whatever method, you get another load of charges. Like this. On top of this, I have bought some great T-40's from the USA and paid a fair price but out of all the ones I have, I have been caught out several times. Bannana neck on one - blamed on the hold pressure and temperature, faulty electrics. "it was fine when it left me" and dings that couldn't be seen or were not declared. All these things are repairable and you can end up with a cracking instrument but after paying the price, the shipping and the charges, that's the last thing you want. Try sorting this out when the seller is thousands of miles away. Hard to believe that this arrived with something sticky (smelled like maple syrup) all over it with both switches faulty. Switches changes and cleaned up, Mmm Nice. They do come up over here and are increasing in value, as more and more people latch onto them, so with the $$$ what it is and all the other things to consider, wait until something comes up. A fair price for a VERY good one, would be £400 ish - to give you an idea of GOOD, the one in the pic above, I sold for £425, to buy my red one. You should get a very nice one for £350 - £400 ish but there are ones that I have seen recently go for £250 ish but these are usually Natural only and got a few miles on the clock. So, all you potential T-40 players out there, start looking.

Aria tsb
So there's an aria tsb (Thor Sound Bass) on eBay that's tempting me. I'm just after some info on them. What's the tone like? What's the quality like? How does it compare to an SB? Has anyone got any experience with them?
Cocco, it's me again!! We must meet up sometime. I have a TSB650, four aside tuners, two pup, stack controls - great bass to play and to look at. Will get you a pic, if you are interested. I also have a TSB400, as well as some other Aria stuff. Neither of these would stack up against the power of your T-40, although they do have some great tones. Are you entering into a Far Eastern phase? If so, drop me a PM and I'll bore you rigid. Cheers. Flat Eric.
12. Hi. Nice to hear from you. I have a good friend in Philadephia, been there a couple of times - great place. I share your taste in good British TV. Nice one.
13. Ahhh, what you need is a T-40! "Plenty of bottom end and lots of tonal variety" That's what you are looking for? Come and join us! Check out Gear Porn, Peavey T-40. I am not "a million" away from you, so if you are interested, PM me and you might be able to have a test drive! Plus. . . . . you could buy 2 good T-40's and still have change for a weekend away. Joking aside, there are so many used classic basses out there, do you really need to lay out all that cash? If you have had the Epi, you could get a Gibson RD Artist, with a few miles on it, Ibanez Musician, Aria SB, or if you wanted something newer, the very punchy Status Groove, or Ibanez SR900/1000, there's loads to choose from.
14. Hi. There is and "S" Shaped strap, from the US, which apparently sorts the problem out. I am currently looking into them for my Explorer bass, which is a little head heavy. I'll come back to you. Cheers.
15.
I have something a bit like that. Shown here with two of my genuine Rics:- http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3770...mp;id=700601843
As I am perhaps the only person remaining, not on Facebook - Could you post a pic? Would love to see it. I have a Reeve 4&6.
16. More RD! Slightly used.
17. No Black Eagle, I'm afraid!! Never actually seen one in the flesh. How about these - hopefully they might promote a few more lurkers to post a pic of their pride and joy. Old Thumper These older Blazers don't arf kick out some bass! Ibanez Studio Good Solid Bass, in every respect. A "Can't Remember" Ibanez I'm sure someone will tell me! Great player, with those funny Straplock thingies. Never got round to gigging this - Must try harder, Eric Come on, join in - there must be a lot more Classic Ibanez out there.
18.
Some possible options to browse through here Bass Player Tone & Technology
Thanks for this - not seen it before, very informative. I shall wade my way through it.
19. Hi. I've been putting this off until now - hope someone can help. I have various favourite strings for different basses, so I have seen most of them but I have some strings on three different basses, that were on when I bought them. All of the basses sound great with them on, good balanced sound, equal volume. They have black bindings. I have some Labella on an RD, same great sound, pinky/orange packet. The question is, are the others likely to be the same or are there other quality string makers using black bindings? Hope you can help. Cheers.
20. Hi. I've got that Friday aternoon feeling, so time for a brouse - spotted this. For what it's worth, if anyone is half interested in this bass, I've got one and between me and my four string mates, we all agree that it is a great bass. I bought in in a bit of a deal, (I wanted other things that went with it) and thought it would be a bit of a hack but all of us were very surprised. The right weight, nice neck and great electrics - whisper quiet, better in many repects than a Jaguar I had and sold. They may not be fashion of the month but if anyone is looking for a good honest instrument, you wouldn't go far wrong.
21.
Couldn't help myself, damn my itchy fingers on ebay! Just bought this.... SB Elite Its labelled as an Elite and looks a lot like one, but could be an odd SB900... we'll see! Steve
Being a great lover of Aria, spotted your post. Well done, I'm sure you will love it. It is an Elite, not a 900 - I am lucky enough to have both. I have two Elites and I think yours is one of the later ones, as one of mine does not have a serial number, as per yours. Great sounds lovely to play. I bought a bass off Nick, a few years ago - he has some great gear. These are mine in last year's sun.
22. OOooo!! Wow! Just got back from picking up another classic from The Land of the Rising Sun. What a result. Some Very nice basses so far, Keep them coming - there must be loads out there. Stu. Do it! Not a Whole heap of beans and a great bass. Kenny R. Nice one! Jon. I'm sure you must have a big interest in all things Ibanez Nice one! Lefty. Ooo. Nice! Alien: Gorgeous. Very Nice. More, more, more!
23.
I just bought a black T-40 from Kingforaday and can now safely say that I am no longer in need of any of my other basses, bar just one (and one I keep for sentimental reasons)! I've not played a T-40 since the late '80s, but once I got my hands on one again I was reminded why I liked them so much back then. Put simply, they do everything I need a bass to do in terms of sound and presence. So now I've no more need to fret and fuss over whether various other basses may possibly have what I'm looking for! The amount of different sounds I can get out of it is just brilliant - even tho' I think some of them would destroy my cheap practice amp! And at a more basic level the mix of maple neck, all-black bodywork and all that metalwork just looks fantastic. Of course, the other thing I've remembered was the reason I didn't buy one back in the '80s - back then I was a scrawny 18 year old and the T-40 felt like it weighed more than I did But nowadays the weight is reassuring, in some odd way. It just makes the whole package feel more solid. It's quite amusing seeing it stood next to my two Jazzes. They look very delicate in comparison...
Hi. A very genuine "Welcome on board" Now you have joined The Happy Band of those who are in the know!!. I have looked closely at the bass you now have, it looks like a good one! I will PM you about your question. All the very best, fellow T-40 Player. Cheers. Flat Eric.
24.
Superb TV last night on the WDR German channel - Rockpalast featuring Tower of Power. Awesome soul/funk band that has been around for over forty years - seriously good bass player.
Shame I missed that!! Some of the bands of that era and genre, had such a great sound and were SO tight. I have almost worn out my "TOP" CD. Anyone Sky+ it? I would love a copy.
25.
To those who own multiple T-40s. I have an early non rail one, is the difference in tone that massive between it and the railed one? I kinda wish mine had more bite.
Hi. As you know, I have errmm, several!! The Blade pups on the bass and guitar are more powerful than the toasters, although, Blade or Toaster, they do vary slightly, bass to bass. The Toasters are warmer with generally more power than an average passive bass - wind in the Humbucker and watch the VU head towards the red! The blades have more Bark, Bight and power, no doubt. Perhaps the most powerful passive bass I have is a later, Natural, with the BAT switches, that sends everything into the red, if you don't back off the input on the amp. Pic of it in this Gear Porn. If I am using a Toaster (I have a Tanburst, with a rosewood board the I love to play) I use a Boss EQ20 and balance the sound with a Blade T-40. I have also found the running the Toasters through a Behringer BDI 21, adds the bark that I like for most of the set. Turn it off and you have a warmer sound. Horses for courses. I love the warm, deep sound of the Toaster, for more laid back stuff but the Blade cuts through like a knife. So, having said all that, here's something else that may help! As with any stringed instrument, no matter how well it is made, the sound comes from the strings. At one extreme, I have a Toaster with Flats - the ultimate in Dub - but to improve the bight on a Toaster, I have D'Addario on one, Elites on another and although not top of the list on most players choice. . . . . . . Picato, on another, which I think are my favourites. I am using these on a lot of my other stuff. Not an Arm & a Leg and very nice to play. If I ever find myself round your way, as you are a big fan of the T-40, we could perhaps arrange a meet and I'll bring a Blade with me. Cheers.
