  1. Thanks Paul, I've pinged Andertons a message to ask if they can source an EWS BMC2 as the original seems to be discontinued.
  2. Thanks Martin, could be just the ticket, got my eye on one of their adjustable HPF's too!
  3. Does anyone use the JHS Haunting Mids on their board? Looking at possibly using this for fretless and in general to help in the mix. Any thoughts, experience and alternatives welcome. Cheers!
  4. The only thing I would add to this (apologies if it has already been mentioned) is find a way of raising whatever combo or head and cab you go for off of the floor/point it at your ears whether that be with a stand, leaning it back somehow, a milk crate whatever. It may help keep the wattage, overall volume and cost down.
  5. I have a 760FM set on my main bass, not noticed any issues, they were lightly used when I got them from a fellow forum member here but I've noticed any issues with this set or sets I've used in the past.
  6. It's unlikely I will add or sell anything from my amp/cab setups. I have three options, that serve every purpose for me. Basses, I can always add more, wanted a Rick for a long time (might get one come December who knows), got my eye on a 6 string fretless just for fun, acoustic fretless 5, 8 string, I just like options and different sounds.. So yes GAS is still an issue..
  7. When I was 17/18, I had a dream of being a "session bass player" in studios, cruise ships, all that stuff. Went for a scholarship at a music school in London, down to the final 4 or 5 I think, (picture in BGM woo! 😂) but didn't get it. Then realised I wouldn't have coped in London by myself at that age, by then the decision was made anyway as my mum had decided to spend the money I needed to go.. So I just set about playing in the evenings and weekends with as many different bands/acts of different styles as possible, jam nights, open mics etc from that point on and have not looked back since.
  8. £40-50 on GHS or La Bella flats. If you break down the initial cost its not bad given how long they last me. Always ask on the Wanted Forum first in case anyone has a set they want to sell.
  9. I'll be following this, interested to hear how the pickup sounds as I've been looking at one of these myself to drop into a Stingray copy. Best of luck with the build!
  10. I agree to a point but then you end up with people like Rod Stewart, looking like your nan is on a day out from the care home having a boogie, especially if the voice they are famous for is no longer there.. But having said that, I'm sure he has enough money not to care.
  11. I have the same view with The Who, surely its better to leave a legacy, take the view that Led Zep did. Bill left and Charlie died, draw a line.
  12. Not having a great deal of patience and given the poor volume of acoustic basses in general, I probably would have smashed it over his head. It might have even generated some applause!
  13. Eb and Drop D is all I've ever used bearing in mind the heaviest stuff I've played is Classic Rock live. I'm happy to play anything but not had the opportunity to play in a Metal band so far. I did stumble upon a set of Pyramid strings 140-55 I think and they even do a 145 single string so might give those a go on a 5 that I have..
  14. I've used the Palmer for about a year for home practice 99% of the time and used it to DI to the PA once at a rehearsal. Works for my needs. I don't really use or need any of the features (cab sims, OD, fuzz etc) but the EQ suits me and I can plug my phone into it. Something a bit more stripped down basic would be my preference but certainly does the job.
  15. First time playing in Ely Saturday night, I was unsure how it would go as having recently joined this band a couple of members aren't that confident. Couldn't have asked for a better reaction, the crowd were into it from the very beginning and gave us more and more confidence as the night went on. Yesterday's gig was a little different, different band (only play with these guys as they are friends and a bit of fun) starting at 1pm, first set went ok apart from having to transpose everything up a tone on the fly in the first number.. Second set not so much, couple of the older guys play keys with some automated one key trigger stuff (don't ask) and the guitarist has never grasped unity gain on his assortment of pedals, add to that drinking a fair bit because they don't play out much. I just sat back and locked in with the drummer..
  16. Would this be an option from G4M? https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/RedSub-Infinity-Fan-Fret-Multi-Scale-5-String-Bass-Guitar/2NQW Just thinking it would give you the extra scale length to try out without paying out much in case you don't like it?
  17. I'm similar to you in that I use flats on fretted basses but I use nickel plated rounds on fretless basses, softer feel and less zing than steel but plenty of harmonics there. I've used my fretless P in a classic rock setting with NP rounds and it worked great, elsewhere my fretless jazz works in a country rock orginals setting. Overall I think NP rounds are more versatile than flats.
  18. I ran bass - lead - amp for years and years, my board only consists of "functional" pedals as I see it, instrument selector (plug two basses in at once), tuner, HPF and compressor. I don't uses any effects at all. I don't use the tuner much its just a back up in case I forget or lose one of my clip ons, don't always use the instrument selector depending on the gig. HPF and compressor are always in use.
  19. I've got an earlier Commando 12 with the Rat Fur as opposed to Tolex. The speaker needs a recone or replacing. Its at a rehearsal space at the moment but once I can get hold of it I'll ask Celestion what they would suggest replacing it with.
  20. I've never got on well with Chromes, aside from being very bright out of the pack, I found them quite grabby, more so than Roto 77's. I tend to stick to La Bella or GHS medium to heavy gauge.
  21. Could they be Adagio? Cheap strings but still good quality and only offered in 100-40/45 I think. From memory althought it was few years ago they have red silks.
  22. I might have to add one of these to my board in place of the Thumpinator, its cut off is 31hz I think (fundamental of a Low B?) but I still find myself vibrating rooms. As others have mentioned, this one from Sine seems more useful being adjustable without the hassle of having to order and potentially pay extra from Broughton.
  23. Just throwing in my take on this, echoing what WinterMute suggested. John Entwistle or Geezer Butler technique seems the best way forward for more attack with fingerstyle playing, fret clank and low action (although something you mentioned you dont like) also help, maybe try adding in more treble. I tried the 7150m's once and found them quite wooly sounding even compared to steel flats.
  24. I'm looking for a replacement truss rod nut for my Fender P, being hamfisted and gung ho more often than not, I think I've managed to strip it. I've had a quick google and apart from direct from Fender, does anyone know where I can find a replacement? I need the 3/16" size. Why they couldn't have made it easy and put it at the headstock end I'll never know..
  25. We could happily have got back in the van and gone home but where's the fun in that! 🤣
