Its a pretty little thing, I played a Roscoe fretless with the Diamond wood (I think?) fingerboard many years ago, sounded great, no funds to make it come home with me at the time though. Hope you can get used to the 18mm spacing.

Glad you could find a solution to make it work for you, especially with the flats. I love the sound of a Bass VI, I tried a friend's custom model that is based on the fender design but large mitts and sausage fingers don't like the close string spacing!

Playing at light speed a la Mohini Dey - Yes I can't do it but it doesn't sound musical in the slightest. Multi effects pedals Brightly coloured straps Sound of a fretted jazz bass when it is played by me.

I've done both, most recently I put them back in as I've lost them after affixing them with masking/sellotape in the past.

Bought a digital calliper in the end to get an accurate measurement, needed to be almost 6mm longer than those available off the shelf in the UK. Tim at ZeroMod has been very helpful, though I'm still waiting on him to confirm pricing and payment etc. I did reach out to Retrovibe after theirs didn't fit but I've not heard back.

Would love a Triad, but its still number 3 on the want list..

I've emailed Zero-Mod and will see what they say. Also tried to use an import duty calculator and it didn't seem like much extra (less than a tenner) but I guess that doesn't take into account any handling fees or whatever else.

Ah, something to keep in mind then as my plec playing isn't the most refined..

Hi All, Anyone know of a company or one man in a shed that can make a custom thumb rest that mounts to the screws holes of the pickguard of a Rickenbacker 4001V63? I ordered the standard one from Retrovibe (ThumbChum) and then found out it doesn't fit, also checked with RickySounds before buying theirs and they've confirmed it won't fit. Whilst I can manage without, it would be nice to have one.

Two gigs over the weekend with two different bands (photo from second gig), both at local beer fests with during the day slots. First gig outing for the the new (to me) Rick, love the sound but I'm still getting used to playing it (right hand placement). First gig was with a rock covers trio, took a little while to get going, you don't get the same buzz as a gig at night but it went well, there was a crowd and we got some pocket money so what more can you ask for? Second gig was with a seven piece "function" band, apart from myself and the drummer, the others don't gig much at all, so you're having to support them, depending on how nervous they are or how many beers they've had. It was enjoyable all the same, I have to say its the first time I have waited over an hour and a half for a burger because the vendor couldn't find me, being 6ft 3", 18st and wobbling/limping that was a first!

Experimenting is expensive but its worth keeping an eye out on the for sale threads. My understanding is that flats have more surface area than rounds and that gives them more tension, the La Bella Jamerson's do have a bigger core as well from what I've read. Which strings worked best, was a lot of trial and error for me, in addition to what style I was playing at the time, I only played flats for 5 years or more, its only in the last year I've started using rounds again. I have large hands and the extra tension and resistance of flats was beneficial to me, plus I found them easier to EQ because of the lack of overtones mixing with guitar frequencies. Its all a big learning process.

Set up can also be a factor, especially action obviously, as others have said its also very dependant on the bass as to which strings suit it and sound best to you. For example, one bass (P bass) of mine has La Bella Jamerson 110-52 flats on it and another (modern active thru neck) has 100-40 NPS rounds. Whilst you can play the same bass line on each instrument, they both lend themselves to different styles and tones.

It might be the picture, as the saddles are in different places to give some sort of intonation adjustment.

Picked this up from Bass Bros end of last week, I did trade in the G&L Trib M-2000 and a few pedals towards it, but will be paying my dear old Dad back the rest. 1992 4001V63, in great condition for its age, I was a bit concerned about the small amount of tail lift but it doesn't cause any issues playing wise. Wanted a Rick for a long long time they have such a distinctive sound and look so cool! This one plays lovely, the neck is nice and slim. Only pic I have so far:

I agree with Lozz on this, another recommendation for the Keeley Bassist, I've struggled with compressors, tried different ones but this is the easiest to use and gives you a great even sound.

I think he ended up ordering one of these, Hercules Transformer stands, seems as though it tilts from the base?

Saturday Night party gig in New Wellington Newmarket. Rock Covers Trio - apart from drunks knocking the boom of the mic stand into the singer/guitarist mouth and teeth several times, overall a very good night, 50+ people, great crowd couldn't ask for better. I'd decided to go back to a P bass (reverse, no tone pot) after stints using my Dingwall ABZ and G&L Trib M2000, turns out simple is best for me, also went back to the Keeley Bassist compressor after using a UAFX 1176 and struggling with all the extra knobs and choices! Raised the crossover (Sine Effects X24) point for my drive from 680hz to 800hz ish and I was very pleased sound wise, my P has the D'addario EXL160BT 120-50 strings tuned to Eb, still plenty of tension and plenty of "heft" through the Tecamp Puma 900 + BF Super Twin set up. Still getting used to filling out the mix since going down to a trio line up.

I've been thinking about getting one of these for my US P bass for a while, the only place that sells it for a price I would pay is Thomann, but you've then got the £10 shipping fee and I don't really need anything else expensive enough to get it to the free shipping level. Anyone have one fitted to their bass? Is it worth having? I'd be putting it on the A string to try and get rid of the weird rattling overtone noise.

My wife will whinge regardless but when I do ask she says buy it, I do have 10 in the house currently, though I did have to appease her by changing the storage solution from a Hercules Rack to tiered stands.
