This SX Streamer Jazzman came home with me earlier in the week, I like it, very light, good range of tones, although the Jazz pickup is a bit weak by itself. Might have been sat in the shop a while as I note they've since changed the headstock design.. Normally I'm a P bass with flats man but this brought out my best impression of Mark King..

I would recommend flatwounds based on what you've written, general advice is to go a gauge lighter than the equivalent roundwound. I use La bella but have used GHS in the past, these are on the darker more traditional side but there are also brighter flats such as Fender, D'addario, Rotosound.

Just ordered the Rodenberg LDP Deluxe as a replacement for the TC Spark that I use currently, will update once I've had it on the board for a while.

Tried the Acoustic Attak XL picks the other day and found them really easy to hold which has been a problem for me with other brands. Not cheap mind you. They also do glow in the dark ones..

Plain or self raising? Powder or soda?

Unrealistic heavy ageing - did not expect this from Nash

Reliced with a belt or rotary sander? -
Add mids, cut lows. If you have a high pass filter that's adjustable even better. Raising the amp/cab off of the floor will also help.

The bike rally sounds fun, take care on the drive! The drummer wimped out, we had a kebab shop two doors down that's open till 4am.. Think I'd had enough after trying to load out my gear between bouncers and drunks, plus I'm 6' 4" 19st so probably didn't help, next lot of gigs are more civilised or outdoor affairs. Ronnie.

That would be, seems I'm very adept at typos too! A kebab would have finished it off nicely but I was knackered..

Played in Ipswich Saturday night 10am-1am, started off quiet but soon filled up, apparently punters were very complimentary on the whole. Highlight of the night for me though was we play "Hate to Say I Told You So" cuts to the bass break, singer says on bass introduces me, guy in the crowd opposite shouts "S**t name!" 🤣 Add to that the A14 being closed on the way home fell into bed at 2:30.

Interesting Yamaha TRB-6P Prototype.

I think I know the guy that owns this, still can't afford to buy it mind you! -
Would have loved the MV-4P in Burgundy Mist but they've given it a jazz neck, having shovels for hands anything under 42mm doesn't really work for me. Shame.

Post a pic of your Bass god from your teen years

Never got to see him live and I'm not necessarily a fan of his sound (in later years) but the freedom that he played with and the melodic stuff he played whilst in a band setting really wowed me when I first started.. -
Gigged Saturday night, in stark contrast to the previous week, this social club didn't appear particularly social.. Large L shaped room, they put us at the bottom of the L with the bar at the top, we had to squeeze into the corner as we couldn't block the door to the toilets or the fire exit at the opposite end. First set was ok, few people singing along and we did get the odd bit of applause but for the second set, what there was of the audience had dwindled, so the audience was down to 4-5 plus our wives/partners. Three quarters of the way through the second set the last person walked out so we packed up, still got paid so can't complain, but very difficult to put any energy or effort in at a gig like that.. Highlight of the night was Steve the 2nd guitarist pulled out of the car park and got immeadiatly stopped and breathalyzed by the plod! Thankfully all clear..

Could be handy as a mod platform? Particularly for those of us who risk serious injury attempting any form of DIY, I would probably just buy a HB but they don't do one in red (yet!).

Sunday afternoon gig at a local social club, not the biggest turnout, apparently a tribute band on in town the night before was what did it, but those that were there really enjoyed, we really enjoyed ourselves, nice to be home for 7pm rather than 1am once in a while. Hopefully get some Saturday night gigs from them going forward..

Its ugly but kind of cool, now I have the chance to own one! I'm with @Jono Bolton though, it would look better with dots than blocks..

Playing gigs sitting down. Pop/funk covers band. Acceptable?
Rodders replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
I've gigged sat down for years now (case of having to not wanting to), I use a tripod stool, never had anyone complain about it, only downside is obviously I can't move around the stage area and if space is tight I get shoved in the corner but hey ho keeps me doing what I love/what I'm good at. -
Played a gig in my home town Saturday night so only a short drive home for me, started at 9pm, first set was great, had people up dancing, really looking like they're enjoying it, just as we were finishing most put coats on and left and the second set was very quiet in comparison, spoke to friends who play in other pub cover bands locally and they say its the way things are nowadays? Weekend before we played in one of the 2 big cities locally and the pub was packed until 1am.

Boz Burrell and Stanley Sheldon - both I didn't expect and not immediatly obvious when you listen to the tracks.

I use a Palmer Pocket Amp Bass, into headphones. Rarely set up an amp now as I live in the middle house of 3 terraced.

How do you deal with performance nerves/imposter syndrome
Rodders replied to SamIAm's topic in General Discussion
Ultimately, you're there to have fun! Take it from someone who only in the last few years (been playing almost 20) has stopped beating themselves up for every mistake. As others have said you will want to give a good account of yourself but mistakes will always happen, 9/10 the audience don't notice and if its a jam its going to be more relaxed. -
I dep for a band now and again, the set list never seems to change much (which is handy) and they're all lovely people. Fortunately for me the drummer is professional (teaches full time as well as gigging) so I just sit and the back and lock in with him and see what the others do on the night. The keys player was once part of The Fall, though you won't neccessarily know if you heard her play, at the last gig I did with them, our rendition of The Best by TT was rather more jazzy than usual, especially the melody on the ivories..
