1. Hi All, Apologies if this is in the wrong section, can anyone recommend a replacement for the Trace Elliot Commando combo 12" version? 100w from memory I think, mine is the earlier rat fur version if it makes any difference. The original is knackered and I'm not technical/competent enough to repair it. Cheers!
2. Not La Bella's but the same sort of sound and feel, I've been using GHS Precision flats on my OLP Stingray for a few years, both for Disco, Funk, Motown and Classic Rock. Works great and sits in the mix with plenty of punch. Higher tension suits me so I use standard 45-105.
3. I bought a fretless P neck with a (presumably) rosewood fingerboard, apart from as @police squad mentions the dots were in the wrong place it was a very good quality neck and finished very well. Still have it and play it. Less than £100 I''m sure.
4. I play in 2 bands and dep with a couple of others from time to time. 1 rehearses regularly but mostly recordes rather than plays live, the other plays for fun, rehearses once a month and gigs a couple of times a year. I did play in 6 (function bands to backing singer songwriters) at one time when I was working part time and was single, I had very few commitments so rehearsing most nights of the week was not a problem for me then.

7. Warwick ProFet 3.2, my first proper amp, never worked properly, always let me down. Despite having it looked at no one could find anything wrong with it as it was an intermittent fault. Traded it in for a Peavey Tour 700 which served me very well for the next 10+ years.
8. I always struggled to get a sound I was happy with using rounds (although I use rounds on my fretless basses). With flats I run the tone knob full up and really enjoy the woody/gritty tone I get, just started using a pick too which opens up another sound that I like. The higher tension of flats also works better for me as well as the smooth feel.
9. I use the 760FS Gold flats, they give more mids than the standard 760 but the trade off is slightly lower output because of the "gold alloy" wrap. They've been on my main P bass for 3 years so far and I'm sure I'll get many more years out of them. As others have said Welcome to flats and enjoy!

11. I play sitting down for all gigs now, I used to stand up for bigger gigs but also had to think about keeping my balance/not falling over (due to disability). I use a K&M drum throne with a back and foot rest, no one in the bands that I play in or have played have questioned it. In the end its the music and enjoyment that counts.
12. I switched to flats 5 years ago and have been enjoying them ever since (La Bella or GHS mostly, I never liked the zing of rounds or the string noise, not my thing at all. I do use NPS rounds on fretless but it is an overall softer sound. I always have the tone full up on my P and tend to cut through just fine, I aim for somewhere between a woody and gritty sound.

14. I've been using flats for 6+ months now, many people say they sound dull or dead, but it all depends how you E.Q and you play. The other advantage for me is that they are much easier to play being smooth and higher tension. I use a P bass with flats in a Soul/Funk/Motown band a Country Rock band and a Blues band and it does everything I need it to.
15. I Want You Back - Jackson 5. The notes you can get down pretty quickly, but the feel is much harder to get when it comes to playing it with a band.
16. Elites Flats don't seem to get a mention, but I find they sound great (on a P bass) and are comfortable tension wise, having tried Rotos and Chromes. They are cheap too.
17. Very heavy gauge too, 110 - 52 I think.
18. If your root is C, G is your Perfect 5th, F is your Perfect 4th. A is your Major 6th. The chromatic scale in C would be every note from C (the root) to C (the octave). Hope this makes sense.
19. I'd really like a Peterbuilt or a Limelight 57' P bass. 2 tone sunburst, maple neck, anodised pickguard. Doesn't get any better than that for me.
20. My guess is: 1. Precision 2. Stingray 3. Treble cut 4. Jazz
21.
Sounds like he put a new set of strings on! Bass seems to have lost a bit of mid-range "authority" to my ears. It sounds more "modern" and "hi-fi" with the Thumpers IMO. Neither of which are sounds that I associate with a P bass!
Looks like a new set of strings too. Black silks to no silk? Like others have said, increased clarity of top and bottom end but the mid seems to have dropped out. The sound has gone in the wrong direction for me.
22. Beautiful bass! If only I could buy this and still afford to eat...
23. Nice, I've gotten into buying cheap basses and doing them up, this isn't helping.. Has anyone else noticed that Jack & Danny wasn't the best choice for a name or is just me? Rhyming slang and all that..
